I've got a problem where if I plop a building on one particular spot, the game CTD's. It's getting really annoying. Can anyone help me?

Jordan-

What is this particular spot?

Also, I think that I may have experienced something very similar to what you are describing, and it has nothing to do with the location, but the lot itself. Have you only tried plopping one building on this spot? and is it a custom lot?

It's on the edge of a medium city tile, near the middle.

Hmm, strange. Double check to make sure you are not missing any dependencies for this lot, as that may be the problem. :)

Indisguise

like said above doubt it's the location in the city that would cause a CTD problem, or least never heard of that happening myself. Could be what you ploping it over, possibly ??

I doubt it's a dependancy missing thats causing the CTD, You would see the lot but it would look odd, have missing pieces or have brown boxes. theres a slight chance you may need a particular mod but thats very rare.

More likely the building is modded incorrectly or has beeen modded in such a way it's conflicting with something else thats already in your game. EG a TE lot that conflicts with the NAM or something along those lines.

Which particular lot are you trying to plop ?  What are you ploping it over ? already zoned area ? unused area ?

Have you tried ploping this lot in other places or cities  ? did it work then  ?

We have seen this happen at least once which was caused by an overhanging item on the lot.. when placed on the edge of a city tile, it would cause problems.. and usually only if oriented in a specific way.. does it fail in all orientations?

canyonjumper

Its any lot, and I'm sure Maxis lots don't have dependencies. It's just in this one spot, nowhere else on the map. The area I'm plopping over is an unused 1x1 space. It's so weird...

thingfishs

that does seem weird. Could one of the lots surrounding that 1x1 have an overhanging prop issue?

canyonjumper

But there's nothing around it! It's a new tile!

and are all the tiles around it clear as well?

callagrafx

How about you post a picture?  or better still, don't plop anything there
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it

joelyboy911

It may seem obvious, and stupid of me to ask, but did you try bulldozing that square before plopping?

I bulldozed the area, and dezoned it. I'll get a pic up later.

Interesting. I have the same problem. Did you find a solution?

It's possible that it's due to a change in tree controller or a missing tree exemplar.  This can lead to a model not showing, and the brown box not showing leaving you with an 'invisible tree' in the location.  If this is removed it can cause a CTD.
