Bought a new computer, installed Simcity 4, copied my old plugins folder. I know a few didn't go though because my (BSC?) flower farm fields have boxes, and my cycledogg coniferous trees are missing. However, the bigger problem is the seemingly random crashes I'm getting. I can be doing nothing and it will happen, or I could be simply zooming out, zoning, or anything else I'd imagine. I'm wondering if the missing plugins are the likely culprit here. Any way of figuring this out?

hi Floydian.

There are probably many different reasons for this, but I had that problem when I bought my new PC. SC4 was designed to run on older specs and I learnt (from a thread here I believe) that if you have a dual/quad core CPU etc then disable all but one CPU using your task manager after the game has loaded. This reduced the number of CTD's for me significantly.

That could be it. Let me give that a shot and I'll report back

After my first two hours, mostly terraforming (Where I've never, ever had a CTD), a bit of building, this seems to be working.

Just for future reference for others, how to turn off one core of your processor is by right clicking simcity4.exe  in the 'Processes' tab of your Task Manager, selecting "Set affinity", and unchecking everything except 'CPU 0'

A follow-up. This seems to have fixed the issue entirely. The only downfall is that you have to go into the task manager every time you play the game.
