Hi Fred

To get those farms to grow wheat instead of banana's you need to change the field lot property in the building exemplar.

the id you need is this one 0x0F043DF9 which is what I used in a lot I made.
Thought I'd save you the trouble of trying to figure it out  ;)

Its really easy to do, open the building exempler, double clik on the field lots and another window opens. delete the id that are there, replace with the one above, clik the "right" apply button, then the "left"one. the window will close. right clik in the right hand pane and select reindex. then save the lot and test in game - it should work (hope I got that right what with my  memory and all :D)

Hope that helps
Derry

Just 2 more questions before I attack this. Do I open the *JFM Farms Vol 03* datfile to change the id, and do I have to change each farm's id? Yes, it was that file to open and modify.

The other question: Do I have to destroy all the farmfields already existing in my cities or can I do this later? I learned if I don't bulldoze the existing farms, then they will stay as banana farms, probably because I did not delete the banana tree prop.

Thanks

Fred

EDIT:  TheTeaCat, you made it easy enough for me to understand. I tried what you said and it worked. Now I have wheat fields growing with my Captn' Banana farms, just what I wanted.

You can add more than one field lot by adding additional REPS into this property, just add more IDs in the "Value as text" line, each one separated by a comma. As usual, click on the "Apply" button ( Is this the same line as I entered the other id to get the wheatfield?) next to this input field first and then on the other "Apply" button below before closing the editor window - and naturally, don't forget to save the farm lot (the DAT file in this case).

In case you want to add the IDs of the Maxis farm fields, use this line: 0x00024100,0x2A6E4309,0x2A6E431D,0xAA6E4328,0x6A6E4332,0xEA6E4721,0xEA6E4722 It's not necessary to remove any of the banana field lots from your plugins folder, and I think you should keep the banana truck, as it's also used on the actual farm lot (unless you remove it with the Lot Editor, i. e. for removing the palm trees and such).

Thanks everyone for helping me out, this is new to me (and also somewhat exiting.....lol) and very much appreciated.

Hi, this is an interesting thread. Would it be possible to edit this into a tutorial?
I will probably try to do some of this modding myself, one of these days.

Lowkee33

Sorry if I made it too confusing...  Will work on that.

Multiple IDs separated by commas would be done in the "Values as text" line.  The "Add/Remove" buttons will add/remove a box where one ID would be placed.

They are just different ways to do the same thing.  Values as text makes it easy to add/delete multiple IDs at once, while the boxes make it easy to pinpoint one ID that you want to change.

Values as text can also be copy/pasted to/from a text program (notepad), so when you find a field configuration you like you can use that technique.

There are a lot of ways to make things fast in Reader.  The exemplar analyzer can list the "field lots" property of every exemplar in the file.  You can then change them all at once.

Thanks Lowkee33 , I will surely try this later tonight and have same farms growing with different fields. Besides the SG farm fields dat, is there another file like this with different farmfields?

Fred

Edit: btw, I am learning quite a lot of things about "tweaking" files here, not only for farms , but in general. I haven't opened the Reader so many times in such a short time before....lol ;)

A few more days in Reader making flora work the way I want and I might start zoning again :).  Wait, I want to make some lots too...

There are quite a few farm fields out there.  BSC Farm Fields - CSX Vol01 to name one.  I think a good way to find them on the LEX is to search "agriculture" in the Maxis section of power search.  Then instead of downloading the farms downloading the fields that are listed as dependencies.

Great idea, thanks for the hint.

Fred

EDIT:

Also thanks to Andreas of mentioning that it is possible to add multiple farmfields to one farmlot. It worked fine for me. ;)

Hun88 and nor grainfield did not bring anything while doing the search on STEX.

Thanks Jim for the link, no wonder I couldn't find him. ;)

Thanks FrankU also, that surely is a nice sunflowerfield.

Anyone knows if there's potatofield somewhere?

Now, how do I get this to be on a growing farm, I cannot seem to find the id number. Is it in the desc file, lotfile or modelfile? And where? Thanks

Fred

Lowkee33

The ID would be in the Lot file.  It is just the Instance #.  If you see my second picture I have a tobacco Lot opened with the ID highlighted.  My first picture is of Jmyers farm referencing that ID.  (I had about 5 other pictures until Andreas said everything :)).

mrbisonm

....and I wasn't looking in the right place. I went through the value sections of each file.
I guess in my case it would be the id shown in red that I will have to add to the fgrowable lotfile, right?

Thanks again, much appreciated.

I am doing some prop searching for a new region and happened to find This.   It is a prop pack from Pmiller19574 of farm crops.  I know you want to BAT your own models, but interesting none the less.

Interesting alright, I downloaded, tried and kept them, quite useful.
I was wondering about that line of *value as text* in a lotfile....how many different id's of farmfields can we enter in this line, is it unlimited?

Thanks

Fred

Lowkee33

Not too sure.  I think it would be unlimited.

SC4 picks from the list at random.  I believe that multiple entries of the same field will increase its chance of growing.

At the moment I have 13 different fieldlot's instances ("id's" or whatever you call them) with one of jmyers2043 growable farmlots. It seems to work quite alright and I have had at least 6 of them grow yet, all with different fields. Fun!.....lol I really enjoy the variation.
It's also fun , now that I know how to do them... ;) Thanks to you guys.

I have seen one farm that I opened with the reader that had the same instance twice, and I was wondering why. I just left it so, thinking that there must be a specific reason for it. Now that you mention that it might increase the chance of growing, it makes sense to me.
