Interesting MD, i love your storyline  :) Look forward to see the new colony

Terring7

Bill_Chen:Your creations are impossible to get unnoticed, keep going. I also had a look in your Martian facilities and they are very interesting. Are you sure that your images are from Simcity 4  ? As about the bats, all of them are available in SimMars Beta 3. If you want to use them for Terran cities, check my signature. Thanks for your comment, glad to see that you feel very attached to my colony :)

Tomas Neto: I hope that your waiting will be worthy :)

Nikom: Thanks for your comment :) . Well... this update will not have a colony... but... 2 colonies!! &dance

Update 7: Come to Mars, we have cookies :-D

"The bureaucracy is expanding, to meet the needs of the expanding bureaucracy"
Oscar Wilde

Same for life on Earth. Life need to expand in order to prosper. This is the reason of why we are not still worms in the seas. Same for Simkind. Exploration, expanding and colonization prevent Sims to still live in caves. Same for the Martian colonization. Hope-1 becomes a bit messy, so expansion is vital.

Remember that i wrote to you about 1 new colony? Well this was true, but having enough time to waste, why not building an another colony too? In this update we'll going to explore Logic-2 and Faith-3, the 2 new colonies on Mars. But first, the historical background of 21st century. Before that, an important note. In the 22nd century NanoCatastrophe take place. An out of control swam of nanorobots remove many important historical data and destroy some of the greatest cities ever build. Because of this, we don't know who was the first Sim on Mars or what happen about the economical crisis in Greece.

We have however some informations about the 21st century, but we are not sure when (and if) take place.

U.S.A. is still a great superpower, but China is coming very fast. Russia becomes a member of European Union. French scientists proved that cold fusion is possible. American computer engineers creates the first robotic Sim, the first creature with artificial intelligence. Japanese physicists discovered the Theory of Everything. N.A.S.A., E.S.A. and other national space agencies collapsed. U.N. founds the W.S.O. (World Space Organization), to keep exploring and colonizing space. Radical ideas, like The Venus Project, becomes really popular. Moon transforms into the largest spaceport and space mining facility ever build... yet. Electric cars were finally beginning to replace the gasoline cars. Oil lobby groups tried to sabotage the ecological technologies... but they failed :D . Quantum computers star to replace the boring, electronic laptops and P.C.s.  And Hope-1 is now ready to expand.

Thanks to W.S.O., everybody can travel to planet Mars and star a new live. The result is this...

Let's have a look on Hope-1 :)

As we can see, Hope-1 becomes really popular ;D . So popular, that their colonists built a new, bigger spaceport

Remember the domed farms? They moved all of them to the new colonies, letting enough empty space for building

Hmm... almost all of them

Remember also this park? It's now surrounding with plenty of tall buildings

An ordinary scenery on Mars

Baseball stadium on Mars ;D

A Martian cementary

And finally, a Martian Opera. On Mars a new music type was born. Mixing electronic sounds with the sound of Mars, like winds and blows, SimMartians can create fantastic melodies.

Time to explore the second colony, Logic-2. This time, this colony will not expand naturally and chaotic. Now that Sims has a new planet to colonize, they also has the opportunity to experiment with new creations and lifestyles. Logic-2 is not an exception.

Here is the commercial area. It's still under development, as you can see

Here we can see some interesting hot spots, like this casino

This is the central quantum computer that control the colony

And here is a night club ;D

A Martian farm close to the commercial area

In the middle of the colony we'll see the residential area

Homes, apartment buildings and even underground luxurious houses

It seems that SimMartians really like sports, especially the Martian low-gravity parallaxes of the Terran sports ;D

An another park

And an another trail park too. The trail paths made by me :)

You can't have a colony without electricity and water, right? ;)

This is the industrial area, with plenty of factories and laboratories

Some Martian factories

Here we can see the water cleaning and waste management facilities

And finally the spaceport

Oner now to Faith-3. This colony is a truly chaotic place, with strange layout and city planning. Remember, we are on a new planet... so we need new ideas ;D

The downtown of the colony

Suburban

A park with plenty of educational buildings

Who said that suburbs should not have apartment buildings?

Who said that skyscrapers should not construct in suburbans?

Factories in suburbans?

Last image. Let's explore the surroundings of Faith-3

In the east, we can see some farms an an industrial area

This is the industrial area, with plenty of mining operations

Faith-3 is the only colony with a nuclear fission power plant. Some affair of a new Chernobyl, while others are more optimistic

And the small farm

What happen to the Hope-1 farms? Here they are :)

Some laboratories than examine the quality of food

In the north, we'll see a small expansion of Hope-1

As well as the spaceport of Faith-3

O.K., this update is over. I hope that you like it. In the next updates we'll explore the lifestyle and philosophy of SimMartians, as well as some new colonies that are coming soon. Stay tuned :)

Simtropolis Moderator here. Can I help? Oh, and you can call me Elias (my real name) if you wish.

FrankU

Hi Elias,

This is quite some work here. Beautiful cities and images. Please, go on!

Battlecat

I've missed a swath of excellent updates over the past while!  Fantastic work, this looks really nice.

I particularly like how you're creating visible patterns and tightly packed cities.  It is probably how a real colony would look as well.

Nikom

wonderful update  &apls I love the planning in Faith-3, it may be chaotic, but it's very nice  :P

Tomas Neto

Fantastic update again my friend!!! Awesome!!!

In the beginning...

Let me apologize for the delay of this update. There are some days that i feel that my life is nothing more than a bucket of craps, so i don't have the enthusiasm for this City Journal. I don't know why i feel this, but sometimes i feel that everything i do is just an another one piece of trash. I guess that everybody has his/her ups and downs. However Eden: The New Frontier should keep going no matter what, I'll give my best.

FrankU:Thanks for your comment :) . I'll try to keep going no matter what, but is not as easy as i thought. Oh, well, SHOW MUST GO ON! ;)

Battlecat: Don't worry about misses ;D . Glad to see that you like my work :) . To be honest, there are so many cool plans about colonies on Mars, that I'm not very sure how a really colony will looks like ()what() . Oh well, let's keep experimenting ;D

Nikom: Thanks for your comment :)

Tomas Neto: Glad to see that you like it :)

Update 8: Ad Astra Per Aspera

"The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."
Larry Niven

Welcome to 2060 A.D. (91 A.T.)

In the 21st century we had a great panic in space exploration and colonization, even greater that the 1960' space race to the Moon. This time is not U.S.A. vs U.S.S.R., but life on Earth vs extinction!

Moon becomes the greatest spaceport ever made by Sims yet. The low gravity of the Moon made this world an excellent shipyard. Moon also contain plenty of water and Helium-3, making this world a gigantic mine facility. This brings plenty of rich Sims to colonize the Moon.

Moon evolved into the new Hollywood. There are plenty of luxurious homes on the Moon, with plenty of high-society stuff. SimLunars adopted a simple way of life and also become great traders.

In order to help the rest of Simkind (especially SimTerrans), SimLunars invent the "Aldrin Calendar". This calendar begins from 1969, where Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin was the first Sims on the Moon in the Tranquility Sea. Using this calendar, 2011 A.D. (Áno Domini) is 42 A.T. (After Tranquility), 1969 A.D. is 0 A.T., 1869 A.D. is 100 B.T. (Before Tranquility) and 2069 A.D. is 100 A.T.. The aim of this calendar is a universal calendar that anybody can use it... no matter if you are Christian, Jude or Muslim.

SimLunars and SimMartian, despite their different lifestyles and philosophies, are excellent allies. SimLunars provides water and Helium-3 to Mars, while SimMartians provides building materials and technologies to the Moon. As you can see, Earth is not the number-one-vital planet anymore.

2057 A.D. (88 A.T.), the first manned mission to Jupiter. There is a planned mission to Saturn for 2069 A.D. (100 A.T.).

2025 A.D. (56 A.T.). Space station Babel in geostationary orbit finally connected to Earth by a space elevator, allowing faster and easier interplanetary voyages.

Here we can see a Mars Express vehicle leaving from Babel, while a Moon Express ship is unloading passengers from the Moon. Thanks to nuclear fusion and nanotechnology, those spacecrafts can reach Mars in only a few weeks!

Here is a cargo ship. Those spacecrafts are vital for trade. This ship carries water from Moon to Mars. Let's follow it.

Welcome to planet Mars. A desert planet, with plenty of promises for a new, better life. It looks an "ordinary" red planet, but did you see something? If you look closely, you can see lines and dots on the Martian surface. What's this? A big project from SimMartians? Are they working on something very big?

An another view of Mars. It seems that SimMartians build plenty of small facilities on all over Mars. It seems that Hope-1, Logic-2 and Faith-3 are not the only colonies. Something very strange is happening on Mars and nobodies knows what... except of the SimMartians themselves.

Here we can see Phobos, the innermost moon of Mars. We can see some night lights too. In the next updates, we'll try to discover if there is something strange on Mars.

SimMartians feel a nice sympathy for the ancient space probes, so they protect them. Those spacecrafts doesn't work anymore, so they are now minor museums for anyone want to explore them. Remember, don't touch. This is Mars Odyssey.

Here is Mariner 9, orbiting the colonized Mars.

An another space probe, called M.R.O. (Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter).

And this is M.G.S. (Mars Global Surveyor).

Orbiting around Mars, you'll see plenty of Martian spaceplanes. Some of them goes from one colony to other, while others goes to the Martian moons for picnics.

Time to land on Mars and have a look at the Martian lifestyle. First of all, the buildings themselves. The design style defined for Mars is called Utilitarian design. As the name already implies it's main characteristic is functionality. This style is defined by its simple and minimalistic building approach. SimMartians doesn't care about luxurious buildings, especially if they don't protect them from the low temperatures, the low atmospheric pressure, the U.V. rays because of the lack of ozone layer, the solar winds because of the weak magnetic field. So without those "ugly" and "unrealistic" buildings, as SimTerrans describe them, SimMartians will be dead! Besides, the Utilitarian design brings also plenty of advantages, like faster construction and recycling. Here are some examples. This image shows homes for the high society of Mars.

The buildings of Mars are also modular. They constructed in a factory piece by piece, carry out by flying helicopters-trucks and assemble by robots like a puzzle.

Some SimMartians take to extreme and live underground!

Despite the conditions on Mars, some colonists doesn't have any problem to use large windows. We can thing that those windows will protect them from U.V. rays and the solar winds, right?

Because you live on Mars, it doesn't mean that swimming pools are such a bad idea.

And here is an interesting mystery. If Mars has lower gravity, why SimMartians doesn't have yet extremely tall skyscrapers? Maybe they just doesn't need them.

Demolishing a building is a very bad idea. Pieces of the building could damage the surround buildings and bring decompression! This is why the older buildings just dismantle by robots. Later the pieces goes to recycling centers for modifications, to make them ready for the creation of new buildings.

Here we can see a factory that builds new homes.

The main source of economy on Mars is mining for metals. Here we can see plenty of mining operations.

Ores are important and Mars has plenty of them, but this is not an excuse for over-mining and turning Mars into a waste land. Recycling and reusing are even more important than the ore itself.

Mars is a cold, desert planet. SimMartians needs plenty of water, but this planet doesn't have plenty of it. This is why SimLunar cargo ships are always welcomed. However SimMartians are still looking for water on Mars, especially underground.

Those facilities cleans up the Martian water. It looks like SimMartians really care about this planet, but why? Why the colonists care so mush about the red planet, a lifeless world?

You can't build something without energy. The colonists use plenty of solar power plants, special design to absorb the little amounts of solar rays. In this picture we can also see electrostatic power plants, that trap the power of Martian thunders and provide energy for a really large amount of time.

Nuclear fusion is the best achievement in energy from the invention of the wheel! Still it needs hydrogen, and there is plenty of hydrogen in water. One glass of water gives enough electricity for a metropolis for a whole year. But Mars hasn't plenty of water. This is why SimMartians use nuclear fission power plants. Unlike the nuclear reactors on Earth, the reactors of Mars are 150% safe. Even the problem of the toxic wastes in solved, by using advance nanotechnology to turn them into safe building materials.

SimMartians doesn't care about garbages. They know how to create as less of them as possible. They are not shopping freaks like SimTerrans. However they still make some garbages, but they don't worry about. Recycling is their best friend. They also research for new methods of waste management.

Just like SimTerrans and SimLunars, SimMartians needs plenty of food. To prevent turning a whole planet into a messy farm, SimMartians use underground farms and advance hydroponics systems. In fact, a whole colony can build over those underground farms!

To reduce the need of so large farms, some scientists are experimenting in genetic mutant food... including banana flavored broccoli and blue chocolates.

SimMartians also need ways to go anywhere they want. Streets, roads and buses are fine, but not enough. This is why use a lot of the railroads. There are 3 kind of Martian railroads: Primary, Flexible and Magnetic.

Primary railroads are the most simple. They are important for carrying industrial cargo and passengers. The Martian trains however can't run as fast as the Terran trains, for 2 reasons. The first reason is the gravity of Mars. It's 3 times lower than the gravity on Earth, so derails on the primary railroads will be often in high speeds... especially on the rough Martian surface. The second reason is the atmosphere. Aerodynamic trains doesn't mean better speeds, because the Martian atmosphere is 100 times thiner that the Terran one. The low top speed however has some interesting advantages. The rail-road crossings are much more safe and the railroad curves and slopes can be more steep, making it more flexible.

The Flexible a.k.a. personal railroads are mostly a taxi-train hybrid. All you need is to get underground, get on a personal train and tell into the computer your destination.

Magnetic trains are the fastest trains on Mars. The train itself "hug" the magnetic rail, so derails are a thing of the past. Those trains can reach supersonic speeds without any danger!!

SimMartians also need to be safe and healthy. Hospitals are plentiful. They use genetic engineering and nanotechnology to cure sick and injured colonists.

Is there something worse than burning alive by fire? Yes, blowing up by decompression! This is why leak and seal stations are also plenty in every colony.

Sometimes, criminals from Earth arrives on Mars. Police forces use quantum computers to find and arrest them as soon as possible.

To prevent any possibility for escape, and to make sure that criminals will not suffer by the conditions on Mars, jails are underground.

Education is important for the SimMartians. This is a elementary school. Using quantum computers and the MarNet (Martian Internet), kids can learn anything they want from their comfortable home. Chatting with other students is also possible. You can now have plenty of friend on Mars, no matter where you are. And alike SimTerrans, SimMartians doesn't limited by sitting in front of a computer and just clicking on FaceBook or MySpace.

Who need books, when you have quantum computers? Those libraries provide thousands of Terrabyte of informations, novels, knowledges and stories.

And here is a privet school for richer Sims.

And a college. Of course there are also high schools and museums. We'll visit them in upcoming updates.

Is there something better than having a rest in a park? Sims love parks and SimMartians are not exception. This is a Martian park, that brings a touch of nature. Martian nature, that's it.

Martian plaza, where the colonists can meet and talk. As you can see, telecommunication doesn't replace the face-to-face communication.

An another interesting mystery. What's this? It looks like oxygen. Oxygen?

Thanks to the low gravity of Mars, SimMartians create unique sports like airball and airsprint.

And of course they enjoy life too. Beautiful hotels, large stadiums, plenty of amenities. Who said that mother Earth is the only heaven.

Of course SimMartians doesn't have cruel laws. Graffiti in not a crime, as well as street art. Here is an example. A Sim made a statue of a Terran lamp.

And here is a tree-like sculpture.

An exotic experiment happens on Mars. Quantum computers open the road to the Cybernated Government. Mars is evolving into a cybernated society, in which computers could replace the outmoded system of electing politicians, that in most cases represent the entrenched vested interests. The purpose of this experiment is to elevate the spiritual and intellectual potential of all SimMartians, while at the same time providing the goods and services that will meet their individual and material needs.

At the same time, it looks like Mars is evolving into a spiritual heaven. Take for example this cementary. There are no cementeries for Christians, Muslims, Judes e.t.c.. We are all citizens of the same Universe, no matter your believes.

Yes, something very strange is happening on Mars. SimMartians build communication devices to speak with Moon and Earth. Still Mars has plenty of mysteries.

Something is happening on Mars. What kind of secrets has the SimMartians? Stay tuned!

This update, in your MD, it's like a big science fiction movie!!! I liked very much, my friend!!! Awesome work!!!

Evillions8

Awesome!  :)
However, I do suggest planning out your cities a bit more better, the CBD is somewhat repetitious and the transition between densities doesn't work well.  Take the time and use the buildingplop cheat, you can plop any building from your plugins folder!  :)

Remember this:

More diversity = More appealing = More rates.  ;D

Nikom

Great work with the intro in this update. I really enjoy how you show us the details, it's nice to see a different kind of cities  &apls

Tomas Neto: And this is only the beginning my friend. There is a much longer story. How long? Better not to tell and spoil the story ;D . Glad to see that you like it :)

Evillions8: Thanks for your comment and your suggestion :) . To be honest, I'm not a big fan of plopable buildings for 3 reasons:

1) I think that watching the city upgrades is more fun than having a city with static buildings and nothing change.
2) Tall plopable buildings are very easy to get them. Just build them. But tall grownable buildings are more difficult to get them, making them "mini rewards" for your effort.
3) Playing with plopable buildings can mess your city if you are not careful enough.

However I'm not against the use of those buildings. I just prefer to use them in really serious situations. Here is an example.

The S.W.F.C. (the cyan skyscraper) is plopable, because my Sims screamed for more commercial jobs. In Hope-1 you will also notice a big, black skyscraper. This is plopable too. I don't have any problem with them, i just prefer to not overuse them. However i prefer to make extra lots with extra sizes. Some skyscrapers, for example, are in 2x2 or 3x3 lots. But having them in 1x1 and 2x2 lots will makes them appear faster and easer.

Of course this is just me. But I'll give a try in the plop cheat ;)

(As about rates, everything i make is for sharing a story and not for extra rates. If i want hundreds of rates, i would download 10 gigabytes of add-ons and spent all day and all night in front of a P.C. for extreme micromanagement and realism. Not for me my friend $%Grinno$% )

Nikom: Thanks for your comment, glad to see that you like it :)

Update 9: Love is on Mars

"At the touch of love everyone becomes a poet."
Plato

Who said that love is in the air? The truth is that love is everywhere... even on Mars ;D . Robotic workers and nanorobots are building like mad new colonies, and Love-4 is not exception. Today we'll explore Love-4, a really romantic colony.

Oh yeah, Love-4 is the South-East colony with the shapes of a square and a cross. But what kind of shape it is? Try to find it out. Just a hind: Goddess of love ;D

The whole colony is a bedroom community, and established to support the commercial and industrial facilities of Hope-1, Logic-2 and Faith-3. Here is the square area.

And here is the cross area.

Let's land into this airport and explore Love-4.

Square area is full of low density homes. It's a little boring here because is a new colony, but it will be soon a pleasure to the eye.

See those red structures in every corner? Those are the entrances-exits of the underground flexible train-tram. And SimMartians use them a lot.

The building with the sphere is an advance cybernatic learning school, that teach to the colonists more sophisticate sciences and technologies.

This is the central quantum computer of Love-4. Err what? A City Hall? With humans? Who needs them? $%Grinno$%
Mars is the best place to establish something brand new, the Global Quantum Cybernated Society. In this society, quantum computers replaced the outmoded system of electing politicians, that in most cases represent the entrenched vested interests. Of course this new technology is not dictating or monitoring individual's lives, but is elevating the spiritual and intellectual potential of all people, while at the same time providing the goods and services that will meet their individual and material needs.

Communication antennas allows the creation of the InPlaNet, the Interplanetary Internet that connects Earth, Moon and Mars. Those antennas are also the base of the MarNet (Martian Internet) and allows the central quantum computers of all colonies to communicate each other. With those technologies, Mars is evolving into a planet size brain, where the colonies becomes as vital as a brain cell.

This is an another casino, where tourists come here to spend some time and money. Of course on Mars, money are useless!!! What?? :o
In upcoming updates, we'll learn more.

This is the courthouse of Love-4. However it works mostly like psychological laboratory than a courthouse. How? Stay tuned.

This is the center of the colony, where you can see Anakin Skyalker's house just landed from Tatooine... don't get freak, is just a copy made by Star Wars fans :D

Love-4 has plenty of parks. Some of them are domed and other are just open spaces.

Because of the low speed of the primary railroad, level crossings are very common. And because both cars and trains has artificial intelligence (yes, they are SimMartian citizens too), collusions are a thing of the past.

Of course magnetic railroads are very useful for intercolony transportations and not only.

This is the Hydrological Center of Love-4. Earth has plenty of water. Moon has plenty of water. Has Mars plenty of water? ()what()

Love-4 is a bedroom community, but you'll still notice small factories and skyscrapers.

Here is a large hospital. Those hospitals are too large for such a small colony, but Love-4 is going to evolve into a small metropolis.

Yes, SimMartians adore sports.

Here we can see the first cementary of Love-4.

The second cementary is in the beginning of the cross area. We can also see some industries here.

Let's finish the exploration of the Love-4 by having a look in the cross area. This place has almost nothing interesting to see, so let's "skip" it.

I hope that you like it. In upcoming updates we'll see the evolution of Love-4. But in the next 2 updates, we'll going to answer many questions. Something strange is happening on Mars. What's that? Stay tuned to find it out :)

Update 10: Life on Mars!!

"The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not "Eureka!" but "That's funny..."."
Isaac Asimov

There is life on Mars! There is life on Mars! &dance
What? Little green men with flying sauces who want to take over the Earth? :D
No man! >:( :angrymore:

O.K., let's get serious.

When the first Sims visit Mars, they didn't found something to prove that there is life on the Red Planet. They only discovered fossils of ancient microbes, suggesting that was a living planet. Well... it was. Mars is dead, said the SimTerrans scientists.

But in 2060 A.D. (91 A.T.), an unbelievable discover take place in the North Pole of Mars. Before that, let me meet you with Frank, an explorer SimMartian cyborg with the ability to survive in the Martian surface without any protection. It looks that the first generation of 100% Martians in finally here. Anyway, this is Frank.

Frank deployed from a V.T.O.L. airplane to explore the North Pole. An ordinary mission, with a shocking surprise!

Plants? On Mars? Impossible! And yes, there are plants on Mars.

Because of the lower gravity, all those plants where very tall. Some of them had also very large levees to collect more solar energy.

Frank thought. If there are plants, how about animals? And soon, Frank discovered Martian animals!

After some D.N.A. analysis, scientists learned more about those creatures. This non-sapient creature is a herbivore, feeding on small Martian plants, and has a scaly skin covered in a wax-like substance which protects it from the ultraviolet radiation. It also has a thick membrane covering its eyes, in order to shield them from violent sandstorms. Due to this membrane, however, the creature has very poor eyesight. The creature is a quadruped, and uses its strong hind limbs for jumping, which is a very efficient way of locomotion on a low-gravity planet. Due to the frigid temperatures of Mars, the creature's blood contains ethyl alcohol, rather than water. Since the alcohol has a much lower melting point, it remains liquid at very low temperatures, preventing the creature from freezing.

And the name of them: Martian Bear. Why? When the American astronomer Carl Sagan suggests better research for more complex life forms on Mars, some scientists made jokes about "Carl Sagan's Martian polar bears". With the discovery of the Martian bears, Carl Sagan took his "revenge".

While Frank explored the place, he heard creepy sounds from the sky. But is wasn't the wind. Soon a flying creature landed close to him.

This creature made those scary sounds. Soon it attacks a Martian bear to eat it.

After some D.N.A. analysis, scientists learned more about those creatures. This non-sapient creature is a carnivore, feeding on Martian bears. Unlike Martian bears, those flying animals doesn't eat by chewing their food. It's liquivorous, something like the Terran spiders. This animal use a retractable appendage on its mouth that it uses to attack and subdue prey, which pierces the victim's skin and injects digestive juices into the body. The victim is insides liquefy, allowing the flying animal to suck out this for sustenance. Like Martian bears, those animals has also ethyl alcohol in their blood and skin covered in a wax-like substance.

And the name of them: Martian Siren. Why? Because of their creepy siren-like sounds. It's also a tribute to Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. and his book "The Sirens of Titan"

Frank keeps exploring the place, but soon the ground starts to shake. An earthquake? Not exactly, something is going to appear from underground. Maybe is a Martian geyser, maybe is a... MONSTER!!!!! AAAHHHH!!!!

Frank shocked, but he soon notice that this gigantic animal ate a small forest and some Martian bears. Wow, what a snack!

After some D.N.A. analysis, scientists learned more about those creatures. This non-sapient creature is an omnivore feeding on plants, Martian bears and sirens. It's gigantic mouth and extremely hard teeth allows it to eat almost everything, even rocks. This giant lives underground, so it doesn't have ethyl alcohol in their blood and skin covered in a wax-like substance. In fact, it's the only Martian animal that is closer to the Terran animals, making it a truly alien life form.

And the name of them: Martian Sandworms. Why? It's a tribute of the legendary sandworms of the plant Arrakis, from Frank Herbert's novel "Dune".

Now this is something really cool. A small ecosystem on Mars! What next? An ancient civilization? Maybe, especially after the studding of the mysterious area of Cydonia. Cydonia is almost close to Faith-3, so exploring there is easier.

There are many interesting objects to explore, but the famous Martian Face takes the cake. The American mission Mars Global Surveyor proved that it was nothing more than hills. But after a great sandstorm, the dust of the Face removed. So, are you sure that it still just a hill?

Here we can see a scientific base in Cydonia. The exploration of this place is not very easy however. Many strange phenomenas happens here, making Cydonia the Martian Area 51. The Face is the most creepy.

There is a door that leads the explorers to the inside of the Face. The Face was artificially made, but by who? Many scientists explored the inside of the Face. 2 of them disappeared!! How? Did they found a labyrinth-like structure and get lost? Did they found a tunnel that leads them to somewhere else? Did they found a star gate-like object and now they are out of the Solar System? Nobody found them.

But the Face is not the only strange object in Cydonia. This mountain for example. It looks more like an arcology, a building large enough to support a whole city inside it.

Next to it, we can find a city-like group of small hills.

A mysterious crater. Some explorers claimed that they can hear strange alien voices inside of the crater.

All those strange structures connect each other by "roads". If anybody was on the road, he/she could feel something fluid... and this is not air, neither water.

Some days later, Frank explored the North Pole again. This time he discovered ruins from a native civilization! So there was an intelligent specie. He discovered abandonment villages, destroyed temples, unknown structures and evidences of an ancient Martian civilization.

In the end of the day, Frank waited for the airplane to get him. But before that, he discovered something really beautiful. A monolith-like object, with a hologram of a galaxy on it. Frank was surrounded by ancient ruins and a whole ecosystem, but this was his greater discovery, as he said. He even tried to touch the monolith.

The discovery of life on Mars was the half Martian Shock, according of SimTerrans and SimLunars description. In the next update, we'll discover the other half. Stay tuned :)

Ok, that's a particularly innovative use of spore screenshots!  The growing martian city in your latest updates looks great!

The Mars Mod lives! Last I saw of the Mars Mod it was incomplete, but I've been out of circulation awhile. I always wanted to see it in expanded use. Thanks!

In the beginning...

So today is the Valentine Day. But who cares? Lovers celebrate every day, all day :)
In this update, we'll explore the lifestyle of SimMartians. Some of the next ideas are inspired by The Venus Project. I'm a big supporter of this project and I'm sure that not everybody will agree with this project... so please don't bite $%Grinno$%

Battlecat: Thanks for the comment :) . To be honest, i think that Spore: Galactic Adventures is a great game and a great tool to show anything you want. More colonies are coming soon

Kcrimsonsim: Glad to see that you like it :) . SimMars is alive and kicking. There is an epic evolution from Beta 2 to Beta 3, including the ability to have 2 Simcities in the same computer! Because of this really great job, SimMars won some interesting Trixies Awards, including "Merrit of Team Spirit Award" and the second best mod for 2010 (first was N.A.M.). SimMars didn't get unnoticed even by the Maxis team! And there is more :)

Update 11: The Mars Project

"Now, somehow, in some new way, the sky seemed almost alien."
Lyndon B. Johnson

Welcome to 2061 A.D. (92 A.T.). Simkind was shocked with the discovery of native Martian life forms last year. This year, a new shock is coming out. Before this, let's see some interesting things about the interplanetary civilization of the Sims. Sims are now splinted by 3 races, SimTerrans, SimLunars and SimMartians. SimTerrans also splinted by 2 factors, the Old Generation and the New Generation.
Irresponsibility, racism, wars, fanaticism, pollution, paranoia. The Old Generation of SimTerrans dislike any change and they want everybody to live as they want. They only care about money and laziness.
On the other hand, there is the New Generation of SimTerrans. They were sick and tired of the global problems and they need a solution as soon as possible. They really care about environment, human rights and peace.
SimLunars however doesn't have any problem to care. Moon has plenty of resources and SimLunars are the richest Sims in the Solar System. They also love money, but they prefer more peaceful and diplomatic ways to earn them. They are excellent traders and always ready to help anybody.
As about SimMartians, they adore science and philosophy. Their slogan is "Respect and Creation" and they want to build a better place for everybody to live. However is seems that they prefer anarchism than democracy or something else similar. They reject any form of politics, religion and social ideology. They prefer science. Let's visit their Utopia.

First of all, something interesting. This is the Martian night. As we can see, SimMartians hate light pollution. This is why there are so few lights.

But what if they didn't care about light pollution? In that case, Mars would be like this! A planet size brain. Hope-1, Logic-2, Faith-3 and Love-4 are not the only colonies anymore. They are the most important, but here we can see plenty oh Martian villages, full with Sims who seek for a better world.

Mars is the new America, the new land of dreams and hopes. At least, this is how those advertisements describe the life on Mars.

Besides, nuclear fusion and nanotechnology make the Earth-Mars voyage a matter of some days. So, why not?

To make the access to space even better, SimTerrans build a large number of space elevators. Those structures are mostly a cable that connects Earth with a space station.

SimLunars use electromagnetic catapults, that use electromagnetic railroads to send the spacecrafts into space.

SimMartians however can't use electromagnetic catapults because of the gravity, neither a space elevator because of the Martian moons.

So they use space hooks, an interesting mix of the space elevator and the electromagnetic catapult. The spacecraft connects with the one of the acres of the space hook, and then the hook rotates to bring the spacecraft directly into the Martian atmosphere. Simple!

And now is time to learn about the Martian Utopia. SimTerrans uses money and politics. SimLunars uses money and politics. SimMartian reject them! No money, no politics. In fact, they established the Resource-Based Economy and the Cybernated Government.

The term and meaning of a Resource-Based Economy was originated by Jacque Fresco. It is a system in which all goods and services are available without the use of money, credits, barter or any other system of debt or servitude. All resources become the common heritage of all of the inhabitants, not just a select few. The premise upon which this system is based is that Earth, Moon, Mars, and generally all the planets in the Universe, are abundant with plentiful resource; our practice of rationing resources through monetary methods is irrelevant and counter productive to our survival.

The Martian society has access to highly advanced technology and can make available food, clothing, housing and medical car, update the educational system, and develop a limitless supply of renewable, non-contaminating energy. By supplying an efficiently designed economy, everyone can enjoy a very high standard of living with all of the amenities of a high technological society.

A resource-based economy would utilize existing resources from the land and sea, physical equipment, industrial plants, etc. to enhance the lives of the total population of Mars. In an economy based on resources rather than money, SimMartians could easily produce all of the necessities of life and provide a high standard of living for all.

So in only one phrase, money are useless!

And what is the Cybernated Government? It's when the quantum computers "take over the world". The human mind is far too simple to handle and put to practical use the voluminous information needed to operate a highly technical and advanced world society. The processing required would have to deal with trillions of bits of information per second, far too complex for human systems, particularly with the infusion of nanotechnology. So, let's forget city halls e.t.c.

A cybernated society is a society in which computers replaced the outmoded system of electing politicians that in most cases represent the entrenched vested interests. This new technology doesn't not dictate or monitor SimMartian's lives. Books such as 1984 and Brave New World and motion pictures such as Blade-Runner and Terminator 2 have spawned fear in some people regarding the takeover of technology in our society. The only purpose of the Cybernated Government is to elevate the spiritual and intellectual potential of all people, while at the same time providing the goods and services that will meet their individual and material needs.

Cybernation is the linking of quantum computers with automated systems. Eventually the central cybernated systems coordinated all of the machinery and equipment that serve the entire colony and ultimately the whole Mars. One can think of this as an electronic autonomic nervous system extending into all areas of the social complex.

In addition, to ensure the efficient operation of the city's various functions, all of the processes and services are equipped with quantum environmental feedback sensors. These sensors coordinated with redundant, back-up systems that operate in the event of failure or breakdown of the colony's primary systems. Only when cybernation is integrated into all aspects of this new and dynamic culture, can quantum computers appropriately serve the needs of all people. No technological civilization can ever operate efficiently and effectively without the integration of cybernetics as an integral part of this new world civilization.

So in only one phrase, politics are useless!

Can you believe it? A worldwide culture based on science. Not in political and social ideologies, like democracy or socialism. Money are useless. Computers liberate the Sims for the pursuit of higher aspirations in human achievement. What's the results? Million of them! No wars, no pollution, no racism, no traffic jam, no crime, no fear, no hate, no fanaticism, no, no, no...!! It's a truly heaven.

SimMartians also experiments in Transhumanism. They believe that Sims can evolve from Homo Sapiens to Homo Superior with the use of science and technology. However they know that advance technologies demand advance wisdom.

All the above described the majority of SimMartians. However some of them doesn't agree with them, so they prefer to build their mini Utopians. As we saw before, there are plenty of villages and mini colonies on Mars. Here is an example in the Ares Valles.

Oh, by the way. Mars is now terraforming. WHAT?! That's right, Mars is going to evolve into a second Earth, with oceans, blue skies and grass.

But what about the native life forms? What about the Martian bears?

What about the Martian sandworms?

What about the Martian sirens?

Yes, this picture shows Martian sirens flying around above a colony, seeking for food.

SimMartians will not allow them to die. Those creatures will genetically modificated, in order to survive after the Martian terraforming.

The Martian terraforming will need plenty of time. Meanwhile, we're going to explore more colonies and not only. Stay tuned :)

Fantastic updates, I love the story that's developing.  The other photos and custom images are really adding to your MD.

Keep up the great work!

Tomas Neto

Fantastic..., really fantastic work!!! Awesome update my friend!!!

Great MD there!
And that are wonderful pictures of your Sim-Mars region!
Very nice work.

Battlecat: Glad to see that you like it :) . The story of Eden is as optimistic and positive as possible. I'm sick and tired of those dystupian stories that scares everybody, even for no reason! Most of the extra pictures taken by Celestia and Spore. As about the others, i just found them from Google ;D .

Tomas Neto: Thank you from your comment :)

bat: Glad to see that you like it :) . The region of Mars can be taken from Simtropolis. As you can see the original version is teraformed, but SimMars removes the water and replace the grass with dust. Of course the map is too small in comparison with Mars itself. This region is 64x32 kilometers, while Mars is about... 21,000x10,000 kilometers ;D

Update 12: Planet Happy

"Happiness comes only when we push our brains and hearts to the farthest reaches of which we are capable."
Leo Rosten

For many years, Sims thought that Mars in nothing more than an another dead, cold, useless piece of rock. Today, Mars is a new, brave world.

A world based on science, where computers liberate the Sims and everything is free for everyone.

A world rich of native life and remnants of ancient civilizations.

A world where Sims are evolving from Homo Sapiens to Homo Superior.

A world that now is transforming into a new Earth.

In this world we'll explore a new colony called Fun-5, which is next to Love-4

Here is Fun-5 from the sky. Interesting layout, don't you think? ;D

To visit Fun-5, you can use airplanes, magnetic supersonic trains, buses or underground flexible taxi-trains.

This crater is one of the most interesting landmarks of Fun-5.

This is from where the colonists take the electricity and the clean water they need.

A typical example of the Martian street art, a tree like sculpture.

Let's have a look to the homes of Fun-5.

This is the C.B.D. of Fun-5.

Time to explore the industries. Don't surprised however if you see commercial skyscrapers too :D

The majority of SimMartians are atheists, while the Cybernated Government also prefers science than any kind of religion to unite the people. However Mars has the most monasteries, temples, mosques e.t.c. in the Solar System, and that's because Mars has no state religion and all SimMartians respect everybody's believe. This Muslim mosque in Fun-5 prove that Mars is your heaven, no matter in what you believe :)

And why Fun-5 has this name? Because of all those domed parks, open air plazas, hotels, venues, sport arenas, domed swimming pools e.t.c..

(I'm going to upload this update in Simtropolis as soon as it's 100% ready for action :) )
