Hi RJ/CAMteam/everyone.  Long time lurker, first time poster.  After playing Vanilla many years ago I got into SC4 again last year.  Discovered the custom content available and been steadily downloading and experimenting with my cities.

I have DL'd a lot of content, but one thing I always stayed away from was CAM.  Seeing all those skyscraper farms others make where the goal is to get 9mil Pop. in a city was a real turn off.  But I've started reading more about it and I like it.  My hangup is I still don't like the idea of 40 Sims in a single family home or 15,000 jobs in a skyscraper, but now I feel like I'm missing out on a lot of goodness without the CAM.  So I want to jump in.

I was going to go ahead and grab CAM v1 but I read a post by RJ (May 2010) that CAM 2.0 was due last year. I must assume it's not too far off now.  It sounds like going from CAM v1 to v2 wont be a huge deal, but unless there's a CAM-lite (without excessive Pop.) it makes sense to go right into CAM v2 if I can.

I'm not big on forum participation but self-teaching, experimentation and scrutiny are my fortes.  If you could use another tester or don't mind me checking CAM2 out for myself I'd appreciate the access to the forums and the DL.

Also, very recently I've started poking around into modding itself.  I have some experience with modding other games.  Experimental and buggy tools are always a turn off for me but SC4 modding seems to have matured with solid and user friendly apps, and thanks to the hard work of many I think I will get into it.  Perhaps mostly just tweaking for personal use, but you never know.  Everyone got started just changing a few things around.

I've been trying to find a tutorial for converting nonCAM lots into CAM so I don't lose any fav Stage-8s and make other lots' capacities more consistent with CAM, or to find something comprehensive on creating a CAMeLot so I can see what extra steps are involved. So far I've had no luck.  I get the feeling it's rather simple, but not as simple as just changing the lot's occupancy either.  Could someone point me to a step-by-step so I can learn to do that?

Sorry for the long post. Given that my post count is zero I figured some kind of intro was in order.

Thanks.

If you haven't yet, I'd suggest you download the sc4pim and read the documentation thoroughly, it will answer most of your questions.

Thank you RippleJet.  I've been reading up before getting started.  I hope I can still make some small contribution to getting this baby tuned to perfection.

vortext: I did find out about that tool but haven't had a chance to look into it yet.  Just been messing with SC4Tool so far.  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I'll go check it out after I get CAM set up.
