Teeracroptus

Hello all;

I've been playing the game since close to its release I guess and tried to make the "perfect region" as far as I can remember. It is not for very long though that I started following this awesome site and learnt many great things. But no matter how hard I looked, I could not find much data about the original Maxis growable buildings (eg. max #of occupants for types of houses). I believe an extensive compilation of such data will be handy for all the obsessives out there (assuming and hoping I'm not alone:).

The reason I say original Maxis content is that I lack the aesthetic sense to build good looking cities as the many examples out there using the awesome custom user content presented. Other reasons are that I'm somewhat afraid to install plugins (I had to install the NAM of course but I'm still afraid to use any feature other than the traffic simulator) and that I want to "beat the game" as it is.

Anyway, my ultimate goal is to create a nice region using the concept of regional play. The result, if can be achieved will of course be deemed boring and probably ugly as well but again my only goal is functionality.

To achieve this goal, I need an extensive compilation of in-game data. I have already looked through many topics and learnt a great deal about transit, I'm grateful for all the people who made and documented NAM and many other people, whom if mentioned here will make this thread much longer. I'm surprised that you are still reading.

I will post my findings in here, will be glad if you join and post any links to anything I'm sure I overlooked.

Finally forgive my misuse of any terms and please correct, and for my future posts, warn me immediately in the event you smell plagiarism, for I would hate myself to become a plagiarist.

Hi Teeracroptus,

Quoteassuming and hoping I'm not alone.

Oh heavens no :)

I don't know that there is a complete list of all of the buildings/lots and properties out there.  However, SC4Tools is a good program for you to find the info.  The download link is at the bottom of this page: SimCityKurier.  It has a building database with all of the info for Maxis stuff.

After that you may want PIMX, with it's support page: Here.  The main function of PIMX is making new buildings/lots, but it will also tell you the stats of the Maxis Buildings.

If you want to get down and dirty, there's Reader (Support).  Reader will open the Maxis Files and tell you pretty much everything inside them.  The "Navigator" feature would be the place to start looking, as every exemplar (the file type of Buildings/Lots) is in a "tree" formation, making it quick to find things.  You will also find everything that can be modded, but at a cost of ease of use (though it is very powerful and remains the common tool for "uncommon" moding).

Uncommon modding would be that you can change (or at least see) the data on how the simulators work.  With some research you could know exactly what effects building a school will have and other things like that.

Have fun, don't forget to play :)
