The suburbs of the city be far from the Tamoios park and of the Uberabinha river, but the inhabitants of these areas has the pleasure of being near to the Mantiqueira forest.

The major preoccupation of the mayor of Mongaguá is prevent the city grow toward the forest, deforesting it more and more. In some cities of the region, the forest of the Mantiqueira already is extinct, occupied by rural, residential or industrial areas. Mongaguá avoids to follow this example and fight for the preservation of the forest. But is difficult to conserve it, when highways and railroads cross the forest.
