The Ultimate Challenge: International McDonald's Invitational

On my recent trip to Arizona, I saw something I had never seen before. I have been to 17 countries and never seen this variant before. I spoke with others who have been to other countries... over forty in all. And this is the only instance of such a thing we know of ever happening. So, I will show you (of course!) and then issue the ultimate SC4D challenge to you.

From a distance, you notice nothing different... or do you?

Typical suburban commercial area... or is it?

Yep, this looks like a pretty typical McDonald's.

So, where does the challenge come in? In Sedona, Arizona we saw a McDonald's unlike any other. When you consider how many different McDonald's emporia I have seen over the years over three continents (plus many more seen by the people I polled... covering all 6 inhabited continents), no one had ever seen something like this. This particular restaurant was startling not for its menu (the same as you get everywhere) but for the décor. This is the only instance I have ever heard of when the venerable Golden Arches are not golden. Yes, that's right, NOT golden! Here's the evidence:

Notice anything different?

Look closer... the trademark "M" is not yellow... it is turquoise!

No one I know has ever seen a non-golden "M" at one of their places. So, I present it to you as a challenge. I challenge anyone out there who has seen a non-golden arched McDonald's to post a picture of it. I have to think this is not unique on earth, but it has to be rare. So, you are challenged to one of the challenges below:
1)   Your picture of an unorthodox "M" McDonald's (different color, different style, etc.)
2)   Or, your picture of a McDonald's you have seen you think is interesting. (I have seen converted W2W buildings, converted old buildings, and all sorts of interesting ones. Do you have an interesting one near you?)

So now, the SC4D International McDonald's Invitational begins!

Not a frequent McDonalds visitor, but indeed even I know the golden M of the the company (they are the best in marketing, aren't they). I am curious to see what people will say about this. :D

Turquoise...  ()what() ???

Very stranger, but I thought that, on this building in the image,  this way was better than yellow, hahaha!!!   :D

There are some different McDonalds near me, most notably in Lake Forest, IL.  They have ordinances against what type of signage businesses can have.  I think it has relaxed some... but the McDonalds doesn't look like a fast food restaurant at all.

898 South Waukegan Road, Lake Forest, Illinois,

Here are some screen captures from the Google Maps streetview.  YES, this is a McDonalds!

You can see the car at the drive through here.

And the red and yellow entrance sign.  I think that's relatively new (last 5-6 years, I think).  I don't remember seeing that about 15 or so years ago when I was first by this restaurant.

Another shot of the red and yellow sign... and the entrance.

Here's a couple more shots, this from Bing aerial view:

These aerial pics are older (you can tell because the strip mall to the right of the first view (bottom of the second view) isn't there... and I don't see the red and yellow entrance signs.

As an aside, that strip mall DOES have regular advertising boards (as do some other newer businesses) so like I said, it seems like some of the restrictions have lapsed... but still no large scale golden arches.

Check out Abelfarei!

I think in the States there were/ are a few of the old style single arches at some McDonalds:

But many of them are being replaced over time:

nedalezz   Thanks for coming by. I am always glad to see you and equally glad that you liked the last update.

rooker1    Thanks for coming by and I am glad you like what I have been up to. :D

Reikhardt   Thanks! I don't know how the cars survived the blast... they seem pretty durable, but I am sure that bomb damage is not covered on the extended warranty...

Tomas Neto    Obrigado! Those evil Buggs are a potent military force. We appreciate your support as we battle them.

ricardomiranda    Thanks!

kwakelaar    Me too. I was so taken aback by the Blue M. It was one of the most memorable events of the trip. Weird, I know... but it was so unusual.

Tomas Neto    I agree. It is nice to see some variety.

ricardomiranda    I know! There were off color KFC and Taco Bell too (olive color palette) but that did not seem so startling as this...

CabraBuitre    It sure does not look like a McDonald's. It is nice to see some variety.

Reikhardt    I think those went away before my time. But I have seen pictures of them. Still yellow, even if only a single arch. Cool. Wish I could get a burger for 15 cents now!

italiancifa    Mille grazie! This is my place to have fun with SC4. And I am glad you are having fun too. Enjoy! And welcome!

And now to our program...

The Monkey Island government convened in emergency session to discuss the dire situation with Queensferry. King C. George III met with his advisers in the provincial capital of Kong. Kong's capitol sits on Fay Wray Plaza.

The main topic of discussion was how to build up sufficient military strength to repel assaults from Queensferry. After much discussion it was decided to use treasury funds to expand the industrial district of Chiquita and bring in thousands of extra workers to produce the tools needed to make Monkey Island safe again.

Later, it was discovered that most of what they needed was already available...

But thousands of workers have already arrived, making the Chiquita Industrial District the center of Monkey Island's defense industry.
