Issue with CAM not installing properly

Hi there,

After playing my region for a month or so (in real time), I realized that CAM is probably not installed correctly - the RCI demand ranges from -6,000 t0 +6,000, and I understand from the manual that should CAM be installed properly, the demand should have an upper limit of +24,000.

This is strange - datpacking the CAM file with SimCity_1.dat in my previous installation worked (it was from a disc I purchased). This time round, I have purchased a copy from Steam and therefore datpacked the CAM file into the one found in the directory "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\simcity 4 deluxe".

I have doubled check the installation - even when I remove all plugins from the directory, CAM isn't loading correctly, as the RCI demand ranges have not changed from the vanilla version.

May I know what could have possibly gone wrong here?

[Edit]: To pinpoint the issue of the problem, I have reinstalled CAM but have not packed the CAM file into SimCity_1.dat. Now CAM is working (demand ranges have been modified to +24,000). It seems that something might have went wrong during datpacking... any ideas?

p/s: I'm not using the anniversary edition of datpacker.

Hey Teddy! Hmmm, two things come to mind.

1. Make sure that you have the 2008 version of the datpacker. A newer version was on the LEX for a while but it is now locked because it did not always sort through the files properly. The only version you can download now is the correct one.

2. Ok - the SimCity_1.dat and the ColossusAddonMod_1.0 are both in a temporary folder named SimCity_1. But the CAM needs to load into the dat packer AFTER the Maxis file. So rename to Z_ColossusAddonMod_1.0   It sounds like the CAM may have loaded after the Maxis file, consequently the dat packer chose the SimCity_1 data during the sorting/writting process.

There is some information in this thread. Have a read to refresh the memory of the steps and correct order.

Hey Jim,

Thanks for the very insightful reply - indeed, being away from SC4 for quite some time and replaying the game again has proven that some parts of me had became rather rusty :P

I am having the 2008 version of Datpacker, that's alright. As you have pointed out, I think the sorting of the CAM file and the SimCity_1.dat file is the issue here. I have not changed the order, and therefore SimCity_1.dat would have overwritten the CAM file when I datpacked them together. I haven't got time to test it out yet (so much for overtime hours), but I will the moment I get home tonight.

I'll keep you updated about this... and thanks again. Silly enough of me not to read the fine prints :)

[Edit]: Lo and behold, Ji, your second solution worked perfectly ;) thanks again!
