Some more info would be useful like do you have a legal copy to begin with, which version it is (RH or Deluxe) and through which medium it runs (CD or Steam). A readout of the log file is also helpful.

I will add my 2 cents into this too, cause its happening to me as well.  I update it as per the little BS pop up when installing the NAM.  i go to the page, download it, install it. WITH The correct version. and it STILL says I do NOT have it installed.  and YES Dam right its a legal game. it is a US Version of the game.  in fact I have 2 (Legal Games) even went on the other laptop I have to try to install it with the first REAL game I have, and it still is giving me the same sad story, that I DO NOT have the version installed.

So I believe something is Wrong with the NAM installer itself (and its Broken).  (BTW, I did this over 35 times {This Night} to Try to install the new NAM.) with NO luck what so ever.    So the question is this. Now What???

There is nothing wrong with the NAM installer; it's not broken.  This has been verified many times.  If you open up the Properties box of the SC4 executable, you will see that the version number has not been updated.

The patch will often say that it completed successfully even when it didn't.  This is almost definitely what happened in your case.  Fortunately, the patch leaves a log file behind that describes exactly what happened during the patch.  If you can't figure out from the log file what the problem is, post the log file and we'll see what we can do.

first off, I want to say I am Purely sorry for being upset when I posted this.  there is nothing worse than having to reformat the computer, then try to install the game with thousands of things.  then have the patch not install.  but here is the log file.

It seems from that log file that you have applied a No-CD Patch or you have modded the core DAT files of SimCity 4.  You have to re-install SC4, removing these changes, order to install the NAM.

OhioHawk

In honesty, I dont even know what a no cd thing is??  I installed the game, and just installed the gigabytes of plugins that i have had in the game since day 1 of me playing it years ago.  but i will do as you said, install the game, then move back all the plugs in the my docs folder, then do the patch, and pray it works.  ill let you know.

OhioHawk

Did not work at all. here is the log file again:  Now what do I do???

The fact that some of the SimCity_*.dat files were found to be invalid on a fresh install suggests that this may not be a U.S. version of the game.  From your description, it sounds like you have "SimCity 4 Deluxe" rather than the original game plus the expansion pack.  Is that correct?  If so, your game folder will be named "SimCity 4 Deluxe"; otherwise, it will simply be named "SimCity 4".

In any case, in your game folder, you will have one or more subfolders with the names of languages.  If you have the U.S. edition, you will have a subfolder named "English" but no other subfolders.  If this is not the case, then you don't have the U.S. version; what you need to do then is reinstall the game (to back out the updates that the patch made) and run the SKU2 patch.  If this succeeds, you're all set.  Otherwise, please post the SKU2 patch log file (assuming that you needed to install that patch).

OhioHawk

I think I figured it out..  and in the weirdest way too.

1) it is the american version. and it is Deluxe.

from the first time I tried to install it.  I just took the plugins folder, from the my docs area. moved it out then re installed the game.  I did not this time, move the plugins folder back, till I ran the update.  then I took and moved the plugins folder, back into the my docs folder.  and it would not work again. so I did the same thing. un installed it, and re installed it.  the update worked. BUT THIS time. I did NOT let it copy over the NAM folder inside the plugins folder.  THAT let the NAM install.

Now, for some reason.  it was some bad file inside the NAM folder that it would not let install the new NAM.  when you guys tested it.  did you try to put a bad file inside the Old NAM folder, to see if the New One would install???  but as I said, when i did a complete copy over all the files.  it would not install. but when i did not let it override (or add the Old NAM) it let me install it.

I just did an extensive review of the part of the NAM installer that checks the SC4 version number.  Not only did that code look completely correct, but most importantly, it is always executed before the installer even looks at your old NAM.  For this reason, the steps you took to get the NAM to install shouldn't have made any difference.  Why they did is a mystery, but the reason does not appear to be due to a bug in the NAM installer.  Anyway, congratulations on getting everything working.

OhioHawk

I dont understand how or why it happened the way it did.  but I thought before I re installed everything again to just for fun, NOT port over the old NAM directly.  how it makes a difference. I don't understand either. but for some reason it did.  just glad I didnt have to do the one by one zip files this time. I would have killed almost 3 batteries to do it.  LOL.  but this also might be something that one would want to add into a say ""troubles solution"" of possible causes, or either the Patch, or New, or Update of the NAM itself.  Grant you, maybe a fluke problem I had.  ( or my computer just hates me)  the latter being more true.  lol.  but something to post to a trouble section of possible Q & A.

Thanks for the help. and direction. and again, I am sorry for being so upset. but after spending a few days un-zipping all the plug-ins, and such.  it just got to me that I may have had to do it all over again. from scratch.  (there has to be a better way)   I wish they would come up with a program that we could copy and drop into a program that would unzip it for you. like the Sims 2 has.  but with everyone using .exe files, for their own installs. that would not work.
