With some good help from Noah (noahclem), rivit, simcoug and Matt(threestooges) I got through the testing and checking the mods, installer and readmes.

Thank you. Thank you.

Now its time to hit the exchange:

Thank you R.

Someone say something about steam:

Started playing around with animation.
Fount this video on youtube: Moving a piston with math #1.

Spend 5 hours trying to replicated what he did in it. The video goes a bit too fast, so I had to go back over and over, to see what he was doing.

The basic is building over the piston in the video. Then I just keept adding stuff, very slowly.

Would love to see that.    Do automata support animation though?

Well sort of.

You can have the UV-mapping change by time, so the wheels and the rods ect, will be rendered out a bit like this one:

... and as an animated gif:

BTW: Have updated VDK Trains Volume 14. The latest one with the engines. Forgot to update the icons to match the engines. :P

Did not know that. Very nice.  :)

Been looking back into the projects.

Here is one that will be good news for Arthur:

Minor details left on the engine like displays, numbers, texts ect.

Still looking into steam engines, but sort of hard settling on a model.

Those days I've been watching videos on youtube about Shinkansen trains and I was thinking in your models...
Are you thinking to make just this model ? or more Shinkansen models ?

I really would like to be able to create my own automas, It would be very nice to have a kind of pack with all
Japanese Shinkansen series.

Good luck with this one and Greetings

Thank you. Have a few others models in the pipeline like the Shinkansen 800 (Kyushu) and one or two of the bi-level models as well.

EDIT: Will be making a RailStar version of this train as well.

noahclem

The animation is fantastic  &apls  If able to be applied it'd be truly ground shaking. Arthur's not the only one that'd appreciate the Shinkansen models ;)

romualdillo

The duck train!!!! :D Great work as always!!!

Jack_wilds

luv the progress and downloaded the latest train-set packs    &apls &apls

Been getting my hands, adding a few meters to the model for the cars and moving the pantograph over to its own texture.
The last thing was makes its easier for me to reused that part on some of the other models without to much extra work.

The length of the engine is 27.18 m (vs. 27.35) and the cars length is 24,85 m (vs 25.00).
This is going to be the closes a RL train I have done so far. Hope the games forgives the longer cars and engine. Here I am thinking of the corners.
Having some AO-maps baked while typing.

Sorry no pictures of the progress.

On the animation: Having a hard time figuring out what the maths/geometri for movement for the other parts.
.... and for that matter what other parts.... all depends on what valve gear system to do.
Found this program for getting a lot of numbers, x, y, rotation ect.
Its has a long list: Couting at  59 different systems  &smrt :shocked2:
On top getting a lot of numbers, they are in inches :P

Just noticed this line: The default dimensions used in the programs are in inches and most are 1.5 inch scale.
That last line, me not being use to inches, could someone explain what that means ? Please!

Thank you Google: 1.5" scale means 1.5 inches on the model will equal 1 foot in the real world. Or 1/8 scale or as we Europeans would say 1:125 scale.

During my search for info on valve gears I found these 5 animations:
Stephenson Valve Gear:

Walschaerts Valve Gear:

Baker Valve Gear:

Southern Valve Gear:

Young Valve Gear:

TY.

Arthur: Most of this is not modelling but photoshopping.

An update:

Working on the first car now, one with a pantograph on.

Still need to add details to front part of the side panels. Maybe two or three windows.
The dark shadow at the bottom of the sides sort of mark the finish part of the side panel.
