Hey, where is the love?

Many salutations, everybody!!!  I know that the title is a bit misleading because I am definitely feeling the love from you guys; still, the kind of love that I am puzzled about is why my Sims are not more excited about the new RHW I have built for them.  I have found my groove with the RHW -- especially with the Inside Diamond interchanges necessary to make the RHW even an option at all; still, the Sims are not taking the bait.  Even if I try not to take it personally, it still hurts to see that my Sims are not appreciating that I have been slaving away at the planning table to come up with the concept of what is to be built, sweating at all the necessary excavation to prepare the land, vomiting at the horrible stench of the necessary asphalt being cooked and being poured into place -- all for their sake. 

How the duck do I convince my Sims to notice my handiwork and make use of it?  I also got the trick down for the Neighbor Connection puzzle pieces and am willing to go into each of my cities to reapply them for good measure.

If your sims have an alternate, faster way to get where they want to go, they will use it.

Because RHW tends to have less intersections, often distances are too far for sims to consider using it. Especially if you have high speed monorail, which is very fast, the fastest network in-game in fact, they will prefer this to travel to other cities unless the RHW is somehow quicker.

So what you are saying is to get rid of the Monorail / Hi-Speed rail if I want my Sims to use the RHW?

Postscript:  My master plan is to replace all of the Maxis highways with RHW and then to revise the Monorail into HSR.  I would be overjoyed if my cities were to have many thousands of citizens.

Not exactly. Just that if the two both go from/to the same place, expect the Sims to take the train really.

Sims aren't like real people, they won't have a preference for one or the other, although you could try adjusting the Traffic Simulator which will alter this somewhat.

But the easiest solution is to make sure the RHW works for your sims. So it provides good access between Res and Com/Ind areas and has a sufficient number of junctions to make it more flexible. That way you'll find sims utilising both forms of transport, for different routes and hopefully achieve a happy balance.
