Welcome to page 9!

That are some great pictures of New Castle, tooheys! Great work!

Eddie

Pretty impressive set of interchanges there. The region view's unique, as well, and there's a sense of complexity in the way your cities are set out. I like it.

Muzz

This is an incredible CJ, I can't believe I've not seen it before. I'm about to go back and look at all the pages, great work!

Pat, I don't normally reply to individual posts but you've got me ROTFLMAO  :D

If I can try to be serious for a moment, the only reason I use that transition is because the underbridge lots for
the brick seawalls just don't work in my experience. If anyone has a similar problem and knows a fix, I would be interested to know.

And here is poor Davey after his run in with the bears.

PS: When I first read your post I thought you must have breathed in too many fumes, but I misnamed my city, it is
Newcastle, not Riverwood. I'm sure you noticed this and were trying to tell me subliminally. I have made the change
so no one will ever notice,  unless they read this.

LoL Dave that is what we can run with LoL... I did breath in to many fumes LoL How did you know??

thundercrack83: Dustin, thankyou muchly. The more excited you get, the more nervous I get  /wrrd%& I've never progressed a large city that far before and I'm just sitting here waiting for it all to fall to pieces. Fingers crossed.

Jmouse: Hi Joan and thanks for the comments.

QuoteLong ago and far away, someone said (in a post) that Sims go to work and come home with no side trips. If they go shopping, visit pals in hospital and attend school, it is only in our own imaginations. Well, I much prefer the "let's pretend" approach 'cause I don't wanna grow up.

Joan, some may not agree, but I think this hits it on the head. Where's the fun in the clinical approach? If you can imagine the day to day goings on and factor this into your planning and development, it can only help create a more realistic area.

As for the sims leaving the region for work, there is still a large population of R$. The commercial highrise is all C$$ & C$$$. Conveniently, just across the county line in Botany Kurnell (sorry Joan  :-[) is a large ind area, it is closer than the ind precincts in Newcastle, so preferring a shorter drive, this is where the R$ sims head. This exodus should decline as education levels improve (I think). Will have to wait and see.

stewart_garden: About time you showed up, I thought you might have been in hospital with a severe case of heatstroke   :P

Welcome back and welcome downunder. How's life in the realm of the canetoad?

Thanks for the congrats, it's been an interesting month and kept me busy.  Look forward to seeing you around.

By the way, you can cut out that maroons rubbish too! (GO THE BLUES, well next year anyway)

bat: Good to hear from you again and I appreciate the comments as always.

Eddie: It's great to see you dropping by Eddie and thanks for the comments..

Muzz: Thanks and welcome to Balnavia. I apologise in advance for all the bad puns you are about to read.

patfirefghtr: Just a lucky guess, next time use your breathing apparatus ;D

pipishere: Hi Pip, thanks for the comments. The school you deserved for helping introduce a great game to the region.

Sorry all, but I'll have to leave it at that. I was hoping to to include an update here, but a few things interupted while I was doing the replies and I've run out of time. RLS strikes again. Penrith update is all ready to go and I will post tomorrow night.

Until then

Cheers

Dave

patfirefghtr: My butt really wants to avoid those big black firefighter boots of yours, so here's the update  :)

Penrith

Penrith has a mix of RCI. Plenty of farming and most of the housing is low density. There is also quite a bit of
undeveloped bushland.

Every wonder what the farmers from Panania did when measures were put in place to stop the inbreeding.
Well they all moved here, where they can "shenanigan" as much as they want.

Mainly a high tech industrial area, there is some amazing scientific investigations being carried out here.
One company for instance, is trying to determine if life is a sexually transmitted disease.

Penrith High, no metal detectors here, but this is a rural community and regular shoe inspections are
made to ensure no "foreign matter" is introduced onto the polished timber floors.

This is the old forest ranger watchtower which is now used as a lookout for tourists.

The rangers have now moved to more comfortable digs, here in the telecommuncation tower.
No office req'd, they have two permanent stools reserved for them at the bar in the revolving restuarant.

Next update, back to Newcastle to see what is happening there (something I hope). Until then,

Cheers

Dave

Dave,

I think what stuns me most about this MD (well, apart from the dry Aussie wit), is the speed with which you seem to build.  And not just build anything, actually build well thought out attractive developments.  It takes me weeks on end to develop even a medium city tile, usually taking several cycles of "build - rethink - demolish - build again" before I'm happy.  (Although my SimCity time is limited through a desire to keep my better half happy, and non-existent right now because my belongings are in a container somewhere near Port of Brisbane).

So, the question is: how do you manage to develop cities so fast, respond regularly to your 'fanbase' (!) and fit in the odd cold one?

Another great update, although you have made me think twice about farmers in this country!

Stewart
First things first, but not necessarily in that order.

bat

A great regionoverview, tooheys!
The area with the telecommunication tower is also looking wonderful!

Pat

Dave that was tooo good...  You know i cant think of anything else to say...
ohh Wait that is why im still stuck on the std thingie lol....  Dave you are
toooo funnie and whats sad is i understand that Dry Wit of Aussie Humor LoL - pat

Fantastic update, Dave! Your farms look absolutely beautiful! I can't wait to see what's happening in Newcastle, too! Until then!

Jmouse

Loverly update as always!
Guess I was wrong about the location of the traffic congestion in the photo right above Pat's Teddy bear. I thought we were in Newcastle which would put Botany out of the commute circle. Oh well, there's a first time for everything.
Anyway, since Balnavia is getting so big, I just downloaded the latest region shot and put it on the other monitor to help me remember where everything is.

Until next time...
Joan

BTW, has anyone ever thought about what a stranger would think if (s)he actually overheard some of the conversations we have? I mean, breeding farmers, firefighters with Teddy bears dressed up like cops, etc.

stewart_garden: Hi Stewart, well the first thing in my favour is I haven't got a better half, I can't afford myself let alone
someone else  ;)

Now the serious question, how do I find time to fit in a cold one? Well my PC is very close to the fridge and to date there is no
law (in Australia anyway) against drinking and hard-driving ()stsfd()

As for how quick I put a city/tile together, I generally have a good idea of what I want to achieve, and more importantly, what the region
needs at that time. I think the latter is critical if you are looking to grow a city "naturally" rather than plopping landmarks left right and centre.
Don't get me wrong, I use landmarks for a bit of eyecandy every now and again, but if you look at my city of Newcastle, none of the
highrises are landmarks, they are all job enabled.

Of course a dose of Dr Tooheys helps, but you tend to operate differently when you are doing a MD. Believe me, if
Balnavia wasn't being hosted on this site, it A) wouldn't have got past 6 or 7 tiles, B) if it did would have taken 6mths to get to this stage, and C)
been restarted about a dozen times. Stewart, I really can't give you a definitive answer, this is the first time I have put something of
this scale together so quickly, I guess I just like the challenge of performing for an audience and a great one at that.

Oh, and by the way, the farmers mentioned are all from NZ :P

bat: Thanks bat, I only recently came across the tower and I think it looks good.

patfirefghtr: Pat, bad news I'm afraid, teddy has made a break for it and
I don't think he made it  :'(

Despite my heartbreak, I appreciate your comments in this difficult time. Will try to keep my chin up. Ohh, poor teddy &cry2

thundercrack83: Thanks Dustin, I'm working on my final Newcastle update for my stint in Of Special Interest
and will post tomorrow if everything goes to plan. Of course, there is a teaser below.

Jmouse: Well lets get one thing straight, they're cops dressed up as teddy bears! And secondly,
I hope they think we are all a bunch of twelve year olds  ::)

My apologies I got the name wrong, I was supposed to type Kurnell but my fingers thought otherwise. You've got me worried
though, using 2 monitors to track my errors MD. %wrd

Hey, I'm thrilled that you picked that up  :)  (or did you get it from one of your sources).

Newcastle (a little teaser)

As I only have a few days left in "Of Special Interest" I'm planning (if all works out well) a large final update on Newcastle.
The city is progressing amazingly well if I may say so myself, and I hop to post the update within 48 hours. But I couldn't
leave without providing at least one pic, so here it is:

As always, cheers to all

Dave

Pat

Dave that was a good teaser my friend.... IM in stitches here just a laughing my butt off lol at the replies...
Did you my friend kick back a few of these by a chance... Well i will see you in another 48hrs...

A fantastic teaser, tooheys! Looking forward to the next update...

Very, very nice development taking place around here. The last two updates were really interesting to look at. I especially enjoyed the way you built the tower on the hill with MAS walls around. I would probably suggest that you made a higway bridge instead of making the rail go over a bridge, but that's just on a sidenote.

This may be your last few days in OSITM, but this MD is bound to end up a classic. Just hope it doesn't end too soon!
And as for tracking Balnavia on two monitors, it's like watching a wild and crazy tennis match. Talk about a pain in the neck...

Until next time...
Joan

stewart_garden

Dave,

First, thanks for the extensive reply.  I will be taking your advice about the location of the fridge, as it is currently a whole six steps from the computer. and that needs to be rectified.  I can understand that this MD will have focussed your efforts - I have yet to develop anything that I am suitable happy with to post on this site.

Nice teaser, but I think I see another football (soccer) stadium creeping in there.  Are the residents of Balvania rebelling against their rubgy league - loving master?  I must admit that, at the risk of opening myself up to relentless Aussie ribbing, soccer is my game of choice (hence my Dundee United avatar).  However, I'm off to see the Broncos play today...

Thanks again for the entertaining MD.

Stewart

That teaser is looking good, Dave! I'm really starting to like Newcastle. I think I may move there! I can't wait to see the next update!
