I would love to play a mountain map with fiords like in Norway.

I have an eye on an area around Bergen:

Click for enlargement (1452 kb).

Found this place where you can get contour on top of google maps: earthtools.org

Mulefisk

Sounds like a fatastic idea! I've always wanted some good Norwegian maps.

If you make this, i'll definately be playing it as well. :P

vester

Well I was hoping for that there were someone that could help me do this map, a bigger or smaller part of it.
At least around the city itself and the opening where all the ships leave to see.

Ennedi

Great idea, I am very interested in such map too  ;D

Nice idea you got, unfortunately i can't be much of any help though. i have only been in Bergen twice, and i didn't even see half of it. ()sad()

HabLeUrG

the problem of that kind of map the area is huge for SC4, so I can't make all that area at least reducing the scale... let me see if I can do that  ;)

vester

Maybe start the map north of the city of Bergen and then south, preferably with the opening from the fiord out into North see. And for the sea in land as far as you can get.

HabLeUrG

yeah but still huge  ::) so the best option is reducing the scale, youll love the results  ;)

HabLeUrG

hold on...  ()sad()

I was looking if I can get the data but is not available  &mmm

so my last option is making a ficctional map for you looking like that area with mountains and stuff  ;D or if you know where i can get DEM for Norway

waiting for your answer...

Hmmm, I have no idea where to find DEM, have an slide idea what it is but that is it.

well could I make another request instead ?

It looks like you have data for Stockholm! Well its hard to tell from that map.

or maybe you could move down to the area around Stavanger.

How big a map can you make ?

btw: What does DEM stands for ? and where can one read a little more about it ?

HabLeUrG

well i can make a map about 10x10 big city tiles (suggestion) but no more than 30x30...

About Stockholm ive made a fictional map basing of that city "Stockhomes" from another request

http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?p=results

this if you are interested, but i could do the real one if you want...

vester

A big city tile is around 4x4 km right ?

(I did quite some editing in my previous post)

HabLeUrG

Right its 4km, you can learn more about DEM here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_elevation_model

this useful for making RL maps for SC4 by getting the data some more programs are required

btw im not familiar with Norway could you show me where Stavanger is, thanks! ;)

i found it thanks

HabLeUrG

this is the area i have for South Norway including Stavanger

just tell me exactly the are you want, remember i can make it by defferent scales or if you want a 1:1 you have to select a small area

vester

Found a site with some contour data for google maps. It went to latitude 60 N.

Can you turn the area you "render" ?

HabLeUrG

Great if they have DEMs avalaible for download i could take those but im not familiar with that... i have to take a look

you mean to turn that render to SC4 or what? if you want that area exactly, i could make that in a good size but not scaled because the area its enormous

vester

I mean does the area have to be straight north, could you pick the area on an angle. (Like on the google map in the first post)

HabLeUrG

oh of course, but thats "default" for the render i got from the DATA, but i can turn it later when i get it to photoshop

you looking something like this, hehe  ;D

vester

How far north can you go ?

To much water in that area.
