Whoa, great comments in the last little bit.  I've got a "We've got Mail" that I've been working on in the background, so all you folks waiting for answers- they're on the way.

Anyway, before I'm off to work, I added a little general relief shading ala Rand McNally [linkie].

Definitely a post tonight to all the volunteer writers.  Later.

Once again i am astounded by the sheer magnitude of the effort you put in. The detailing is sublime and I saw myself planning a holiday trip there. Then I remembered its not a real place.  $%Grinno$%

If you'll excuse me, I must pick myself up off the floor! These past few updates worth of maps have just been incredible, David. I don't know how you do it!

hey david, is there any lag in the game when you play? Basically, what are the recommended pc stats to use your maps available on the STEX?

My pc has a 2. GHz processor and 2.0 GB of Ram. will that be enough to run the map w/o lag?

I have a 2.33 Ghz processor and 1.5 GB of RAM and have no problems running 3RR. I simply didn't know what do with it at the time!

So what's next? After the amazing road map of 3RR I'm not sure what to expect.

Cheers,
Kevin

Another great picture of that map (like always), David!

Fixed a bunch of things and started adding the township names.

I'll be publishing the first edition of the 3RR Road Atlas very shortly.  That will allow all the folks who have volunteered as writers to pick a township and go to work on all the names in it for the Gazetteer.

Off to work.

Wonderful new progress on that map!

More great work from the "Weight of the Law"! Nice one David, and obviously, congratulations on the CML. There are few who deserve one as much as you do.

David I love these maps. I try to do something like this and I get lost as soon as I open my graphics program up and then try and say forget it.

I was wandering about a couple of things.

I understand the highways.  But for the routes will you be using single lane roads, avenues as country roads, or the rural highway mod.

What will be the difference between the red and the blue roads too?

Jmouse

Looking forward to doing some hands-on work.

Until next time...

This isn't a real formal post- just a few pics I've snapped around the region as fall moves in.

Along R-7 northwest of Le Sueur in Short's Valley.

The leaves are now turning literally before your eyes.

A bit further along R-7.

The golden leaves highlight things you might pass on a given day without noticing them...

View from Shadow Canyon Road (S-563).

...and give a new definition to familiar sights.

Shadow Canyon cliffs.

Shadow Canyon cliffs.

Shadow Canyon cliffs.

All too soon, these trees will be bare...

Shadow Canyon cliffs.

...and 3RR's fields and hills will be covered in winter's first snow.  The hint of the first frost sharpens the air.

S-597 headed west into Boissevain.

Livestock takes a last few lazy hours in the late day sun.

Llama farm north of Black Earth.

Rivers and streams flow on heedless of the ice under which they will soon be covered.

Highland Spur line bridge over unnamed creek north of Boissevain.

Fall!  Ever so glorious.  All too short.

Back along R-7 in Short's Valley

ATTENTION- ALL VOLUNTEER GAZETTEER AUTHORS AND CONTRIBUTORS

OK, so here's the deal.  Here's the latest road map.

The full-size version of that is here [linkie] (1.1Mb- will open in a new window).  I corrected about 50 mistakes and made over 200 changes- mainly moving "stacked" stuff off of each other.

What I'd like each volunteer author to do, at his or her leisure, is to pick a township (i.e. "Low Light," "Farwell," "Holly," etc.) and, with reference to the format used in the Gazetteer [linkie], simply start writing descriptions for each feature, taking into account the other things you've learned from 3RR's various feature posts as we've gone along.  Here's a set of linkies to major ones.

Roads and Highways - http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=112.msg16209#msg16209 (some infor here needs editing based on subsequent changes)

Now, when you come across things like acreage and elevation, simply tap in three underscores ("___") and I'll supply this info right away as we begin posting.  What I plan to do is put a list of contributors at the start of the Gazetteer along with identifying initials (i.e. dedgren -DE) and then I'll put those initials after the end of each contributed entry.

Please post the township you've chosen here in 3RR so we don't have two folks working on the same stuff.  Be as creative as you would want, but remember that most of the entries for things like peaks and creeks are going to be pretty short.  You are welcome to try to estimate distances (a handy way is to remember that each side of a township is five miles/eight kilometers in length.  I can also supply these, or correct them if you wind up too far off.

Not to get legal on anybody, but each submission becomes part of 3RR when you send it to me.  I reserve the right to edit anything (but I think you'll find me a pretty kindly editor) or not use anything at my sole discretion.  That said, I want you to be as creative as you can be- but remember the distinction between "creative" and "ridiculous."  Please PM me your submissions atr the pace you complete them- I'll put them up in the Gazetteer as quickly as I can.

Now, Heather is taking me to a cabin for the balance of the weekend in celebration of Daves' Day [linkie]coming up.  I'll be back Monday, hopefully with more great pics and some other stuff done.  We might have an internet connection, but I doubt it.  Have a great weekend, and I'll be back in a bit, if not sooner.

just One word..... : WOW

I really like you alaskan falls pictures :)

Yoman

I don't know why but this whole project reminds me of a very detailed model HO railroad project. Nice work on the map though :P

BigSlark

David,

The completed map is amazing. After examining the map, I'll take Baronet Township.

Cheers,
Kevin

Travis

More great maps.  :)

However, the link to the larger version of both road maps just leads me to a red "X". I use IE-6, if that makes any difference.
In the meantime, I'll just have to stare at the small version with a magnifying glass.  :P

Jmouse

OK, I'll start out by taking one nobody else will want: Pine Cone. I'll also take McKees Rocks and even Pratt if nobody else wants them, but for now, just sign me up for the first choice.

Until next time...
