Somewhere, JB published a tour of the camp he is an administrator at. I imagine this is the "busy" season for him and he will return to more "full time" BAT'ing in August or September.

Cheers,
Kevin

Yeah, that kind of work does tend to be highly seasonal, so that would explain alot.

JBSimio

Well... this is LONG overdue, and I apologize for that.  Thanks to those who asked for your concern.  Summer camp season is in full swing (has been for a couple weeks) and I have been ridiculously busy since coming back from California.  If I get home in under 11 hours, I consider it a good day!  On top of that, there is a good possibility of some rather large changes in my near future which is eating up what little extra time I have.  They are good things, but I'm not at liberty to discuss them publicly just yet... so I'll have to leave it at that for now.

Barby probably picked the perfect word when she said, "overwhelmed."  Needless to say, I haven't really gotten anything done in this part of my world lately at all.  (Nolan... I just need a solid hour to finish your stuff which I'm hoping to get sometime this week... sorry for the delay!)  In the meantime, I just wanted to post something here to say that I am in fact alright, I haven't disappeared or lost interest, and I will be back at some point.  Again, I appreciate all of my "fans"  (that still just sounds strange to me... but I guess it's accurate) and your concern.  This schedule shift is so normal in my mind that sometimes I forget that there are people who don't know about it!

Thanks for you patience!
JB

It's good to hear you are well and that you are keeping busy (better busy than bored I think). Hope everything works out for you as you hope it to. When you do have time, I've gotten into the bat myself (bridges mostly) and was wondering if you be able to show how you make your ivy (or say where you found out how). Take you time, and take care of everything that needs to be done. Have fun at camp, and good luck with those not-yet-public matters as well.

Pat

JB good to hear the Great news soon to come and have some fun too dont forget that - fellow camper pat

No worries, Jon. I know all about life getting in the way. I haven't updated my own BAT thread in almost a month!

Glad to hear you're keeping busy, and I'm curious about the possible news!

Hey JBSimio! Hope the camp season is going well for you. I just wanted to pop in and say I'm a huge fan of your work, and I'm looking forward to seeing you BATting again soon! The school packs are probably one of the best things I've ever downloaded, so thank you for all the hard work.

Good Lord this place got a little dirty!   %confuso  Ahhh... there's the lights.  So how's everybody?

It's way past bedtime so I'll keep this short for tonight.  I'll explain this tomorrow (later today)... for now, let's just say this is the very beginning.  More will definitely follow.  In the meantime, please enjoy the following teasers:

Welcome back and as always, thanks for all your patience and kind thoughts over the summer!  I really appreciate it.

Glad to see you're back. I assume the campers have gone home and the dining halls have been squared away for the winter?

Let me guess what these buildings are...student apartments for a modular university campus? How close am I?  ;D

Looking forward to more of your great creations!
Cheers,
Kevin

Could be a small motel too, but I guess we'll have to wait to see. Good to see you back JB. I always look forward to your creations but I agree, the modular university project will be much anticip  ;Dated.

First of all, welcome back and I don't think things are too dusty or dirty.  We tried to keep everything clean for you.  hehehe

How was your summer and all the campers?

As for the new BAT, it looks great and I'm not even going to guess.  I'm going to sit back and wait to see what you have for us next.  ;)

Looks like the dorm(s) I stayed in when I was a freshman in college.
You're telling me I get to be home for more than 12 months?

JBSimio

Kevin: Thanks!  Yes, the "extra" five kitchens are all locked up and I'm back down to my usual two again.  We'll continue to have school groups for Outdoor Education through the winter.  You're fairly close actually.

Simdad:  Nice to see you again as well.  Thank you!  I hadn't even thought of it as a motel, but it certainly could be.

Robin:  Hello and thanks for keeping things tidy!  :D  Summer went pretty well.  There were a lot of new staff this year, so it was a little more hectic than usual, but the kids stayed happy and fed so that's all that really matters in the end.  Yes... the row houses.  Still in the pipeline, I promise.  I need to dig several things out and finish sorting and packaging.

Strech:  Thank you again!   ;)

Meinhosen:  Thanks!  The kids tried, but it didn't work!

Hmmm... judging from the responses, I've really made a name for myself based on the school stuff, huh?  I agree these could easily work as student housing (and probably will find their way their somehow), but that isn't really my intent.  I'm basically starting a new series that I've dubbed the RUSA Project.  As many of you know, I always tend to do things in series and collections.  I do it for the sake of variety (why make one school when I can make four?) and also to make it easier to find things.  Back on the STEX you can still find any SHUR building just by typing SHUR in the search box.  This series is a pretty large departure from my usual style in that the buildings will not be nearly as old or historic as my other work.  RUSA stands for the Repetitive Urban Sprawl Apartments Project.  I noticed a gap in the area of low rise apartments (especially in medium or high wealth) that are the backbone of suburbia.  People have the single homes and commercial buildings covered, but there aren't too many of these.  So I decided to start making some.  The two I've shown are on the low end of the scale, they will get prettier.  LOL  The plan is to make these available as single unit stand alone lots (making the modular apartment complex or student housing easy to do) and also as residential mega lots with an entire complex ready to grow.

The many projects that I had going are by no means dead.  This is just a simpler type of modeling (for me) that I can do when I need a break from the ultra detail of the historical styles.  I can whip these mid 70's type apartments out in a matter of hours vs my usual time frame.

So there you have it.  More updates to come.  And I really am going to make a concentrated effort to clean up the outbox and get some of these older projects into your hands as soon as I remember what still needs doing to them all!

JB

He's back, and he means business. The apartments look pretty good. When I first saw them, I was half expecting you would be modelling summer camp cabins/buildings (which may be a project for later). THe apartments look great so far. Add some more windows on the sides, and another (partly underground) floor to the second apartment and you'll have my sophomore year apartment housing (see this link). Anyway, it's good to see you back in the BATting arena. I can see these having a place in my city quite soon. Glad to see the camp experience didn't take too much out of you...kids can be very energetic (especially around meal times). Looking forward to the next update.

Yeah what ever happen to these?

Threestooges:  I've thought about making a modular summer camp since I started BATting... lol.  I've never started the project for a number of reasons... the biggest of which is transit textures.  Maybe with some of the newer ones it could work, but who knows if it will ever happen?  Thanks for you comments and nice to see you again!

Fantnet:  My previous answer was what happened to them.
QuoteYes... the row houses.  Still in the pipeline, I promise.

Just a quick update for now.  I made a couple more color variations just to see what they would look like.  I still haven't fixed the windows or done the lighting on any of these (now six) models... I also plan to tone the white siding down a touch... but beyond that, I'm pretty happy with them at this point.

That's all for now!

JB

Welcome back JB- you have been missed! You are correct that there's definitely a need for these, i have thought so myself several times. They look great  Looking forward to the continuation of your awesome work

threestooges

Would it be possible to convince you to create a texturing tutorial (or have you ever thought about it)? I've been tinkering with the BAT (bridges and a building of two) but working with/picking textures and effectively using them is not something I have picked up yet (nor really have the time to research it in depth now that I'm in law school). You seem to have a great sense for textures (especially so for the types I've been using) and the tutorial section can always use more info. The buildings look pretty good too (by the way) heh heh. Take a peek into the rural renewal project (also in the bat projects group I think). It has some good texture for dirt/gravel paths. Take care. I'll look forward to seeing the next step.
