Wow, super update ejc.  Love all the work you have doen on the rail lines.  Very nicely set up and I see you used the diagonal raised road pieces.  Not my favorite, but you've made them look pretty good.

One to Watch

Finally!! I made it through to the next stage in these MD-categories!! Thanx for all your support and commenting me so many!! It's really satisfying me to see so many people like these European non-grid cities  "$Deal"$

To celebrate this special moment I want to introduce to you the next city; "Mülheim a/d Ruhr". The city is just a bit more eastwards as "Duisburg" is and is a medium-sized city in the region. But, first I'll introduce it to you and you can find out yourself later...

Overview on the city and it's suburbs. You can see it's really a "green city" apart from it's center

shot from the surroundings of "Mülheim" near "Icktener Siedlung". This is the Highway "A52" from "Essen <-> Düsseldorf". It's passing the river "Ruhr" here by a talbrucke.. Traffic is building up through out the region!!

Traffic is jammed up between "Duisburg" and "Mülheim" on the B223

The DB-station near "Kettwig" (few km. south of "Mülheim")

View over some industrial railyards looking towards the city center (notice the appartmentblocks near the central station seen in the following picture...)

The central station in "Mülheim a/d Ruhr", heavily used by commuters to other parts in the region

Other side of the station.. Nice to see all those custom BATs in action &apls

Well, see you back soon on another update on this city. A lot more to see here... So, keep me commented and deserve an update :-\

Hello ejc,

Again great pictures, the Duisburg Altstadt looks very good and rail lines with their surrounding are very realistic!  &apls
The Muhlheim is fantastic too, the last picture is my favourite

Yes , I know what you mean .
I think that I begin to understand the trouble I get seeing your cities ... despite the fact that closer views bothered me .

That's something else than complexity (or realistic clutter ) . Something more .
Things don't look to be just "put there" , coming from nowhere , in 2007 ... It seems that they have had to grow - I know that it was the original purpose of the game but nowhere else I 've got this feeling so strong -, they have had to grow the ones against the others by a irrepressible necessity just like this highway A58 ! Each building , each road (or another piece of the network ) have had to find its place through the global history ... It was not thought by someone in particular , because obviously a city isn't the result of the thought of someone  in particular ...
For these reasons your cities seem to have a real temporal dimension and their own life .

My interest for the closest details is dying there . Terrific.

All this discussion is very interesting! I am sure both points of view (Badsim's and yours) are equally important. I agree with Badsim's analyse above, I think there are more aspects of realism in SC4. One of them is if someone knows perfect SC4 principles, he/she can use them to make more realistic looking area as if it would be a simple copy of the real terrain. But it is extremely difficult, I try to do something like this, but I'm still doing experiments and still making many mistakes  $%Grinno$% You two explore two different areas of SC4 and I learn a lot from both of you!

ejc,

More great updates.  I really like the shot of Duisburg Altstadt. The twisting roads and avenues, the highway going over the avenue, the avenue going over the railway and the railway junction having a raised element.  And the way the three line railway come towards the station on a diagonal and then opens up into an 8 platform station (is that two stations stuck together).  So much working in this one small area - and working so well together.

I even found myself trying to scroll to the right to see how the highway and railway continued to work together!

A masterpiece, I am in awe of your work and very jealous at the same time!

Amazing, ejc! Absolutely amazing! The railroads and the highways--everything looks fantastic! Keep up the great work!

Mülheim part 2

Diagonal building-style due of the great BAT releases of this summer!

The city center with historic center and it's church

Overview on the inner-city core of "Mülheim a/d Ruhr"

One of the many railtracks (this is near Mülheim-Styrum) in the Ruhr-area. Showing a HighSpreedTrain, called ICE in Germany

New & Old Mixing up in the center..

Packed together, all wall2wall!! Great to see SC4 has turned out perfect for European-themed cities afterall...

Last.. but not least; a close-up of "Mülheims" main-station with it's highrises surrounding it

Hope you liked this update, I think we have one more small update on this area as we moving on to the next city -> the largest in the region; "Essen"

Fantastic new update and pictures of Mülheim! (and looking forward to the next update, also to "Essen")!

Fantastic pictures, ejc!

I was only as a tourist in the Ruhrgebiet, but I remember this atmosphere and I think there is much of it in your MD

Great work with diagonal buildings, I must learn how to use them, I see it isn't easy at all  :D
My absolutely favourite is the third picture - with modern office buildings surrounded by old w2ws - very realistic, many old industrial city centers look exactly as this, in Polish Silesia too!

Hello, ejc!

It's always a great day when there's an update in Ruhrgebiet! As usual, the blend of real-life pictures and your in-game shots makes the trip around your region all the better, and I love your diagonal buildings! Can't wait to see more progress, my friend!

rooker1

Another super update.  The RL pictures are a perfect compliment to the SC4 pictures, great idea, as before.  Really great use of the diagonal lots, I really like the triangular lot too.

Mülheim <-> Duisburg

The Deutsche Bahn (DB) is facing some heavy trouble with passenger-flows between the two cities mentioned above.. The main railline for passenger-traffic between "Duisburg HBF" and "Mülheim a/d Ruhr" has been congesting for some time now and they have chosen to double the cappacity by adding an extra railline next to the existing one..

All traffic-flows go round&round, only the railline is congested most of the time..

High use of the railline as you can see

Situation before the renovations, a single track each way for highspeed trains & normal commuter trains..

Construction site near "Duisburger StraBe" and work is on it's way!!

The finished product.. On construction site has erected a new factory

Hope you liked this (some different) update. If you like I will make more of this progress/renewal-updates..

I see in the newsticker mentioned: "Burgemeester begenadigd met bestuurlijke gaven"...

True, so true!  &apls

The capacity increase on the railroad was performed in a very realistic way. Could you show us also the traffic overview "after" finishing this project?
