OMG, Chelsea Mills!  Big coincidence - I was making a box of Jiffy Corn Muffins this evening.    ;D

Excellent work. I like the variety of signs you'll be providing. Did you actually create one with a rabbit hopping across? The hotel is really coming together, and that does show quite a bit of work in it. Do you have a name for it yet? One thing I had a question about, reagrding the lotting and modding for the game, do you do it all yourself or do you take advantage of what all the BSC has to offer? I was looking for some tips as I slowly start to move further into the BATting arena.

This would be perfect for my industrial districts...

I don't really remember what the rabbit had to do with anything, so don't ask me.

Ardecila:   :D  :D  That's funny!  I love it when people catch on to the names I use.  Lawyer's Disclaimer:  This model is in no way affiliated or meant to represent any structure owned or operated by the Jiffy Corporation in Chelsea, Michigan.  It just happens to 30 miles down the road, that's all.  Nice to see you again!

Matt:  Thanks!  No I didn't try to recreate the rabbit sign.  I would have either had to learn how to animate something or set up timed props which would have changed too slowly to make any sense.  I don't have a name for the hotel yet and am open to ideas.  As for lotting and modding, I often try to do as much of it myself as I can.  I ask a lot of modding questions when necessary, but prefer to learn it if possible.  The great thing is that the help is always there for the asking... and somebody always seems to know.

Mickebear:  Thank you!

Payce:  Hi Mom!  Send money!   :D  That's what it was... I remembered beans, I just couldn't remember what they had to do with rabbits.  Thanks for that!

Looks awesome JB and the signs are a great touch.
How is the "Testing" coming along on the other lots?.Thanx

JBSimio

Bluebeard:  Thanks!  A couple signs have changed actually... and there's four now instead of three.  They'll also be set up in a way that you can remove one or more of the ones you may not want... or even all of them and you'll just have no sign at all.  As for testing...

Lockwood Arms has been released!  You can find it here.  Enjoy!

The Stearns Building should be up in a couple days, give or take.  The Brownstone Set could use a bit longer... maybe a week or two yet for those.

As far as the Grain Elevator goes... I've got the files all basically organized, props done, some timed, some in families, etc etc etc.  So we're basically into the lotting stage on that one.  I'm honestly not sure if I'll be lotting it or not yet... so I'm not going to give an estimate there.

As for the unnamed hotel... I'm still plugging away at it.  I've got nearly all the trim work done that doesn't involve windows on the front side.  The windows will go much quicker because there's only three sizes.  This other stuff changes sizes all over the place and takes a while.  Here's a look for now:

Til next time,
JB

As I said, it's looking better all the time, with every new detail I'm not sure if there is a particular style you are going for (or what material the building will be made out of) but if you are open to suggestions on the entryway, I think a half circle rotunda type thing where the guests would drive up through (if that's not clear and you're interested, I'll try to scare up a pic). As far as names go, I haven't thought of anything quite yet, but I'll keep thinking.

cammo2003

It's probably a bit late for this suggestion, but I'll make it anyway:

Regarding the signage on the mill, I'd change the font. Comic Sans doesn't quite work there...
I also think that running the signage along the roof (as opposed to stacking the two words on top of each other) would look better.

Just my NSHO.

Thanx JB for the update.
The Lockwood Arms looks awesome can't wait to download it.Thanx

Sim Shady

wow, that wasnt the building i was thinking would be on the LEX this weekend.  Awesome nonetheless :)

the hotel looks stunning

JBSimio

Matt:  I'm still not entirely sure what style I'm going for either, to be honest.  The railings are meant to look a bit like wrought (sp?) iron, lending an older look... but a lot of other details so far say "new building meant to look old."  I think the window treatments will go a long ways towards finally deciding that.  I think I understand your suggestion, but a picture never hurts if you have one handy.

Cammo:  Not entirely too late, no.  I left the font alone for the red sign...  it's the closest to neon tubing I could find without modeling every letter.  The green neon is actually gone entirely and replaced with a more standard lit sign look.  As for the sizes on the signs... well, that part is too late, sorry!  :(  Thank you for the feedback!

Bluebeard:  No problem!  Thank you!

Sim Shady:  Thanks!  Which building were you expecting?  It's still only the beginning of the weekend too, you know...  ;)

So... I'm home from work already, and I think I'll go play with the hotel that has no name.  I shall return later...

I love that hotel, i cant wait!

Woo new releases! Thanks a bundle, i love lockwood arms. I have only one questin though- why growth stage 7? That kind of limits the building's use in small towns.

Strechnitz

Hi JB.

I love the lockwood arms. I look forward to see it grow in my cities.

And the grainelevator is nearing completion. Its nice to see those different parts come together.

And last but not least. The Hotel is looking better and better with every update. I like the way you are going with that bat. I hope that you find inspiration for a fitting name :)

Fledgeling:  Thanks!  The hotel's getting there bit by bit.  About the stage 7, (and Ripplejet can correct me if I get this wrong) even though it's not a CAM dependant building, it still needed to fit into that mold.  So if you're not using CAM, the stage will seem too high because you don't have the extra stages to work with.  Unfortunately that becomes really noticable on buildings around that particular size.  I probably should have made a "non CAM" version, but honestly didn't know that was still an option.  Might be worth an update later.

Strech:  Thank you!  I'm glad you like all this stuff.   The grain elevator actually "reassembled" better that I thought it would... or more easily might be a better phrase.  I'm still looking for a hotel name...  but given the size, I think I still have plenty of time!  :D

Speaking of the unnamed hotel... today's marathon session really makes it look like something now.  I'm starting to get pretty excited about how this is coming together.  First the latest picture:

Yes... you can see my trick for making interior shadows now!   :D  There is still a ton to do,  but the front is really starting to shape up nicely... now if only it had an entry.  Just for kicks, I jotted down some of the  numbers... this thing is really getting big on me.  There are 326 windows and 44 sets of patio doors... and those are just the ones that are filled in.  That doesn't include any of the open holes that aren't framed yet.  I have 6 different glass textures and 3 floor textures.  The glass will all get adjusted once the building is completely closed in... so it probably doesn't show up real well just yet.  But in the end, it should make a lot of variety in the windows.  The poly count is already pushing 130,000... so I'm kind of afraid of what will happen when I work around the other three sides.  But I guess that's why I got a new computer a few months back!

I like the new hotel.   :)

Is there going to be a base?  It looks like there should be a one or two story limestone base added to the bottom.

Edit:  20th post!!   &bis&

 Its ok - for some reason lockwood seems to be better placed in a larger city anyways to me, despite is low height. I do hope, however, that your more recent apartments like Camelot & such, are able to grow in us non- CAM'ers small towns- I think that's where they would look best. Unless you have a way for us regular joe's to fiddle with the growthstage adjustment  &idea ?

I really like how the hotel is coming along- it reminds me of one I saw (abeit much smaller) in Hot Springs... what was it called... Sioux Empire hotel (theres a idea ;))? Or am I thinking of another name entirely... whatever it was something along those lines. Like the one in hot springs, I think that would look great in rough-cut sandstone. Or brick. A warmer color would be best for that, I think. Of course im downloading it no matter what color it is so it doesn't matter to me.

Sim Shady

Man i just love your hotel.  I cant get this one building from maxis out of my head.  I think that same white and red brick color scheme would look fantastic on your hotel

srry for taking up space in your thread with these pictures

BigSlark

That's a Maxis building?!? Holy cow! Maybe I need to figure out how to CAMify some of these better models... $%Grinno$%
