Welcome to the Ones to Watch section, my friend! Badger Bay is certainly on its way up!

paroch

Hi there,

It's been a while since I visited your MD and boy, you've been BUSY!

Some fabulous updates there and I particularly like your farming areas, you've done an amazing jobe with those.  I alos like your explanation about Badger Bay being part of Sim Nation.  That is exactly how I see it.  Maybe Badger Bay and West End are pretty close to each other in Sim Nation.  The West End parliament will be sending some city planners over to Badger Bay to get some more ideas, that's for sure.

I'll make sure I pop by more regularly in future.

I just read 5 pages of your great MD.. and im still as exited as I was on the first page when you introduced Sheboygan county.  The rural communities that you show here are very realistic and appealing. Thanks, I will be back to see more of it...

First I would like to thank everyone for helping me move up to Ones To Watch.  It was a nice surprise with only a week and a half into this.

Now onto our next area of Sheboygan County.  This area consists of two towns, each on opposite sides of Potters Lake.  On the northeast side right where the E-45 spur ends is Henderson.  On the other side of Potters Lake is Langly.
Potter's Lake draws people from all over as a great quiet recreational area.  Potters Lake is known more for its great boating and watersking then fishing.  Though you can catch some nice nice bluegill and sun fish.  You will often find during the summer tourists and weekend dwellers enjoying the fun of Potters Lake.  Around Potters Lake you will find homes and cabins dotting the landscape as people come to enjoy water fun.

The new grid looks like it'll be an exciting place to visit. Looking forward to doing a little fishing while I'm there! ;)

Until next time...

HENDERSON

H-1: Henderson Fly-By Mosaic

Henderson has a long and storied history.  Henderson was established in 1838 by German immigrants originally as Hamm.  {LINK}Hamm was named after a city in Germany where a large number of the immigrants came from.  Here in Hamm, the German immigrants started a vibrant farming and fishing community around the lake.  The tiny town slowly grew and became known for having the first Catholic Church in Sheboygan County in 1853.  St Lukes Catholic Church was formed by an English immigrant by the name of Father Potter.  St Lukes was established on the northwest side of the lake.    In 1878, the lake was given the name Potters Lake after Father Potter.  Father Potter is famous for being the first and only priest from Badger Bay to be named to the {LINK}College of Cardinals in 1872.
In 1892, Hamm changed it's name to Henderson.  The name Henderson comes from one of the most famous people in all of Badger Bay, Nathaniel Henderson.  Nathaniel Henderson was the first Governor of Badger Bay.  He was nominated in 1881 and stayed there till his death in 1891.  He was born in raised in Hamm and tragically he died here.  In 1891 on a family vaction he drowned in Potter's Lake.  To this day you can still come and visit Nathaniel Henderson's Birthplace.
Over the years Henderson and the surrounding area became a popular vacation spot.  In the summer you will find lots of tourists on the lake enjoying the warm waters and great beaches.  From boating to golf, there is plenty to do in the area.
Currently the population of Henderson is 5,650 and is situated off the E-45 Freeway spur that comes off I-90.  Just a few miles from the City of Sheboygan, people travel to here all summer long.

Let's take a look at what Henderson has to offer for all ....

Very interesting update, tkirch. The history is intriguing, and something very similar probably has happened somewhere in the RL world.
Also, you have a talent for using color in your layout without overdoing it and I like that.
Well done!

Until next time...

Ives Grove Country Club has been created on simple strengths and carefully chosen accents in order to give it an elegant, engaging, and memorable personality. Incorporating a dynamic landscape, four lakes, and thousands of grand old trees, Ives Grove has become a championship course that will challenge the talent and character of players of all skill levels, from novice to scratch.

Ives Grove Country Club is simply that-a gathering place for those who truly understand and appreciate the spirit of the game. It is a celebration of the traditions of golf. Ives Grove offers grand vistas of magnificent fairways and far horizons and a wonderful variety of holes to challenge every shot in the golfers arsenal. Our attentive staff will guarantee a memorable golf experience to each and every one of our guests.

Designed by nationally recognized golf course architect Greg Jacoby, Ives Grove traverses continual elevation changes throughout the course. These elevation changes are the key component of a layout with virtually no level lies. This beautiful "up and down" transition takes each golfer on a wonderful journey through diverse holes that will test every club in the bag and demand a great deal of imagination. The trademark of Mr. Jacoby's work is his unique ability to blend his designs into their natural setting and Ives Grove is no exception. Each and every hole is in harmony with its natural surroundings and appears as if it's always been their to play. Mature stands of Hickory, Maple, Oak, Poplar, and stately Pine quietly define the player's journey.

In addition to the beautiful elevation changes (some well over a hundred feet), Ives Grove features "target golf" in a subtle sort of way. Shots must be played to landing areas flanked by strategically placed bunkers, mounds, depressions, and "transition areas". Wild flowers and grass plantings add to the natural setting and water comes into play on five holes. The design emphasizes the "risk-reward" concept where a bold shot played well is rewarded and a bold shot played poorly is punished. However, the design also allows for "optional" routes to be taken from tee to green. This, combined with its natural setting, and marvelous vistas makes Ives Grove a gathering place for true golf enthusiasts!

tkirch, you chose a beautiful setting for the country club - very appropriate. I'd just hate to slice into the rough on that course!

It's my first post here, but I looked at your MD several times and I like it very much!
Great presentation, interesting general views, very nice atmosphere of this place, and last pictures of the Ives Grove Country Club (especially the first one) are fantastic!
Also Henderson is a great place, I like the general view and ruins of the St Luke's Church

Your map is very large, so a lot of work is waiting for you! Keep it up!

First of all I would like to thank everyone of you for all your support.  I can't believe I have moved up so far and now I am in Of Special Interest this Month. So once again and thank you all.

Now to answer some of your questions:

jmouse: Thank you for all the wonderful comments you have given and am so glad you like it.  And congratulations on the first ten post ribbon.

nedalezz: Thank you for checking in again.  And my towns are much like you find in rural America.  Heck I live in rural America a small town about 20 miles out of Milwaukee.  I have the bustle of the city where I work and the peaceful quietness of the farming community and small town friendship where I live.

thundercrack83:   Thanks again for visiting and commenting.  And thank you for the congratulations.  I wouldn't be where I am today without great visitors like yourself.  Thank you.

paroch: Thank you for the comments.  And I have to say I love reading
{LINK} WEST END, it's another great MD and recommend everyone checking it out.  As for the farming areas, I love the way the farm fields look in this game, adds so much color.  Plus a little secret, with such a large map to finish its nice to have some giant farming areas to fill up the space.  But don't tell anyone my secret. ;)

sebes: I am so glad you like the rural areas.  I should plan them a bit more but often I don't.  SO I get lucky sometimes that they turn out.

bat: Thank you for the kind words bat.

dedgren: David thanks for the ribbon.  I love it.  And there is still a bit of Wisconsin in here.  Wait till you see the Wisconsin Brat and Cheese stores popping up everywhere.

Ennedi: Thanks for the kinds words especially from someone who has one of the most popular and educational MD's here.  Thank you!

rooker1: Thank you for checking in.  And that industrial building is the BLS Distillery - Mistral Jaune Porkissimo and can be found on the Lex here:  http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=507

And finally I have a question out there for anyone with some computer knowledge.   Everytime I load up the new Office 2007 onto my Dell Latitude. 2.ghz Dual Core with 2gigs of Ram, my computer runs fine for a day or two and then it will only start up in safe mode till I restore it back to the time before I loaded up Office 2007.  It works for two days then down.  It has done it four times now and it is frustrating. I tried to google for an answer and can't find one.  Someone have any ideas

A well deserved award, the amount of side-information you give together with pictures of great quality, makes this a very interesting MD. I can't tell you why, but that picture of Nathaniel Hendersons Birthplace is my favorite of your last update. I tend to look at pictures posted as a painting, and that is one painting I wouldn't mind having on my wall :)

Great update (again!). It's kind of funny to see a highway ending in a small village like Henderson, but it's a dream of a picture in night mode   And after seeing the splendid golf courses, it's indeed clear that such a highway spur is needed in Summer when the citizins of Sheboygan will drive en-masse this is corner of their county  :satisfied:

Henderson Continued

Our next tour of Henderson will take us on some of the popular spots that are in Henderson for tourists.  You will find some of the locals also enjoying these spots.

Our first look will be at the pier and marina on Potter's Lake.

HT-1: North Pier - North Pier was built in 2003 when the original pier got destroyed in a tornado that swept through this area of Sheboygan County.  The tornado not only wrecked the pier but many buildings were destroyed but thanks to early warnings no one was seriously injured.  But in the aftermath a man named James Ford conned a number of individuals and took close to $500,000 from the local citizens in an insurance scam.  Mr Ford disappeared in an airplane crash on September 22, 2004 somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean on a flight out of Sydney Australia.

HT-2: North Pier at Night

HT-3: Henderson Marina - The Henderson Marina is where a lot of the tourists tie up their boats and the marina also has one of the many boat ramps used to get into Potter's Lake.  Henderson Marina is especially busy on friday nights for their {LINK} fish boil.

HT-4: Marina at Night

HT-5: Central Square, a nice little plaza

HT-6: The Main Park -A great place all year round

HT-7: Park at Night

HT-8: SimGoobers Mini Golf - This SimGoober guy is one of the reacher people in the world and you can find many of his businesses all over, this is just one of them.
