Yes, I noticed!  But to my defense I did say it'll take awhile for any images to find their way into this CJ - as I'm currently preparing for the journey to start.  I simply decided to start the thread in advance to sort of have a connection when in need of help, since soo much have happened ever since I left!  :D

But not worry...eventually... ;D  Perhaps I should "warm up" the start field by posting images from earlier editions of Olympia?  I don't think I have any left from the first round using SC2K, but from SC3KU and forward there are plenty!  :P

Travis

Hello, SAC, and welcome!

It's rather difficult to explain how much you've inspired me with your creations. I owe a lot to you.  :)
I wanted to say, like the others here, that if you ever have any question about the site, or any of the newer tools and custom content, don't hesitate to ask.

I'll be looking forward to more.  :)

PS:
QuotePerhaps I should "warm up" the start field by posting images from earlier editions of Olympia?
I think that would be a good way to get things started.

SAC

Thanks Travis!   :)  Always a pleasure to hear that my "work" has been inspiring to others!

Thanks Kimcar!  :)  Happy to be here!  And hope to stay a lot in the future - although RL can have a silly impact on you at times!  :D

Well,  while my own site is down at the moment, I can't really refer you there, but Badsim here at SC4Dev have a "Tribute to Olympia" which contains some images of the city, available HERE!  There are also some asian sites showcasing screens of Olympia, although I don't have links available right now.  But you can of course wait fvor new Olympia screens to be posted!  ;)

QuoteBut what kind of work we can tell in front of this Masterpiece.

Well, the main idea is to develop a 4th edition of Olympia, following the characteristics from previous editions, something which means a mountainious terrain for a starter.  The city - and the region - is supposed to be in a European style, although I plan to include an "Asian Town" since there are soo many beautiful B.A.T's outthere. I don't think it'll ruin the general look of Olympia - although I will work my way very carefully!  :P  But even for a European city I believe it's possible to mix different styles - as long as it's done carefully!  However, don't expect Olympia to be a city of skyscrapers.  The only highrised buildings will be those making up for residential areas in the immediate and far outskirts - typical European way.  Still, since I've found some quite nice skyscrapers, or at least highrised commercial buildings, it may happen some of them may find their way into Olympia. If so I'd make sure it'll look good, and possibly create a special "financial" area downtown where these may appear.  But again, we're talking about a handfull of those - if any, nothing else!  ;)

well, just be patient. It'll take awhile longer before the actual CJ starts! When - and if - SimuScape gets online I intend to move ALL my stuff, including CJ's, to this new location. But considering the amount of free time I have on my hands, don't expect anything of that too soon!  :D

Hello SAC and welcome! I remember seeing Olympia for the first time; your images inspired me to search for the expansion pack (I had only vanilla at that stage). The wonderful dream-like characteristics of your cities never ceased to amaze me.

You did so much with so little - the ordered beauty of your creations is absolutely brilliant - I look forward to seeing what you do with this new CJ

SAC

Thanks Matt!  :)

Soo much with soo little... :D

You know, what buffles me right now when downloading stuff for the new CJ to get started, is the amount of things available.  Simply incredible!!!  :o

I can't help wonder how much is actually possible to put inside the in-game folders. But on the other hand, seeing as I made quite a number of custom lots back then, (parks, walkways, and so on), I have tons of new stuff to use now, thus making it possible to sort of "cut down" on my own production.  I soo hope this "compile-to-dat-tool" someone mentioned earlier makes it easier to use lots of custom content - in several ways!  :D

Diggis

SAC, Welcome to SC4D, can't say I know much about Olympia but look forward to seeing what you do.  I have a couple of suggestions for downloads, the SAM (Street Addon Mod) which allows you to change the texture of the streets using a puzzel piece.  This is been released as a Beta, but is still worth a look.  There are some lovely brick textures there which would fit into an old quarter of the city.  And the Euro Textures are also worth a look modifying the roads to the european style.

you asked for someone who could use Photoshop, feel free to PM me if you have something you want done.

SAC

Thanks for the welcoming Diggis!  I'll look into all these mods once I'm done with some other "preparations"... :D  And I'll be sure to contact you about the other thing as well...but for now...real life is calling - again... ;D

Edit to add///

The disadvantage by being away from a game for a longer period of time, is that with all new content available it's a huge process trying to get a grip of everything.  A mess if you like.   ???

I'm still in the progress of downloading stuff, but I can at least see the end of the tunnel right now.  After that I'm going to sort all files and try to determine which of them I'm going to use in my own gameplay, a bit of a sorting procedure really!  :)  When all this is done I intend to get started with the actual CJ here at SC4Dev.  Do excuse the time rame here as I also have lots of RL activities to attend to!

mickebear

also a big welcome from me - thanks to you, I got interested in custom content, and my interest has since then developed much further towards developing my own custom content for others to enjoy.

SAC,
Maybe you mean this SC4datpacker

This little tool saved my game.  It was almost unplayable with all of the "indispensable" custom content I had in the plugins folder.  Now it is almost as fast as SC4 without the plugins.  Its a must-have for the game in my opinion.
I too, will be awaiting the rebirth of Olympia.

SAC, when your 3rd edition caught my eye, I was just starting playing SC4, and didn't know you made a SC3K version.  Good thing, my middle-school life would have been killed more than it already had been destroyed if I saw that!  I was in love with the last version, and even still look to that for inspiration.  I can only expect the best from you again, and best wishes from me!

Hello, SAC- another huge fan (mostly from simply hearing about the great things you've done) checks in.  Heh!  Reading this thread so far is like cruising a high-society cocktail party- all the "names" are here, the atmosphere is wonderful and the conversation is to die for.

I'm sure this will become another "must-see" corner of SC4D.  Welcome, welcome!

Thanks!   :)  I'm pretty sure I've downloaded something with your name on it for this 4th edition.  Have yet to organize things though to get a complete grip of everything... :D

That's the one yes!  ;D  I did have lots of custom content already from the beginning without running into problems, but with everything new available you'll never know...

Well, not to worry.  Life offers plenty of opportunities to catch up with knowledge - whenever it's needed.  As long as you're able to read, write and do the maths I'm sure you'll be fine... ;D

Thank you!   :)  I feel almost embarrased to notice that this CJ has been moved up a step in the Diary section - without even becoming a diary yet!  I do apologize for the lack of actual CJ content at this point, but you'll need to understand that apart from having real life to attend to, (which is pretty much - and I soo wish I was a retiree right now  :D), it's quite a huge task trying to get a grip of everything - even though I'm not new to the game.  Lots of downloads to find, lots of downloads to sort, and so on.  But once all that is done, I promise you a proper CJ.

The only thing I can think of right now, somewhat delaying the CJ further more would be my hopeless state of wanting to re-lot some of the stuff I've downloaded.  :P

All I can say at this point is that I will not use any "normal" buildings, (i.e. residentials, commercials, industrials, civics), released as landmarks only.  In those cases I believe a good idea might be to use that CAM-tool - or was it X-tool?" - in order to make them usable - and functional.  Landmarks, in the shape of churches, monuments, and the likes are okey though.  These are basically "eye-candy" and contributes towards a realistic city environment in the end!  It's funny, but as I've always made my own buildings when playing, for instance, SC2K and SC3KU, I was on my way to learn to use also a 3D-modelling tool to be able to make my own buildings for SC4 as well.  I'm rather happy I never did it though as it would have taken up even more valuable time.  Besides, with all those talented guys and girls around the community, why should I have done it in the first place!  I'm truly impressed by all this talents available here.  And I do hope most of you realize what a terrific opportunity some of you might have in the gaming industries - or elsewhere - with such a knowledge to add to your CV's!  ;D

Anyways...time to get back to my sorting... :D   Thanks for all the welcoming.  I really feel welcome to this place!  :)  And again, do apologize the lack of an actual CJ at this point!  It'll come!  I promise!  :)

emilin

I'll just join into the "Hej och välkommen!"-choir at this point I think. ;D

Some of the earlier stuff you have produced is really amazing (and I must say that I really enjoy the old SC3K pictures in the Olympia thread too - it's hard to believ that it is the same game that I used to play.)

Anyways: Welcome aboard - and looking forward to whatever is to come.

Edit: looking once again at those SC3K trams I have to ask: göteborgare?

Thank you Emilin! :)  And yes, that would be a correct assumption!   ;D  Being, or at least staying in, Gothenburg!  In short, I live in both Gothenburg and Orebro!  ;)

Just wanted to let you know that I haven't abandonded the Olympia CJ.  Again, lots of RL prevents me from spending as much time as I want with SC4, and apart from that I'm still in the sorting process!   :)

Looking forward to Christmas though as I'm taking a couple of weeks off of work...

rushman5

Good to know that it isn't dead.  Plus, post-Christmas updates are always a hit!

OK, I am sitting here and lurking on SC4D while waiting for some backups to finish when I suddenly spot something very interesting. I had to read it twice to believe it :o.

A big welcome back SAC . I enjoyed your bats from SC3K and the 3rd edition of Olympia was a great source of inspiration to me so I am really looking forward to see your work with the 4th edition when I get back home to Gothenburg after spending Christmas and New Years Eve in Malmö.

I remember Sim Gothia and Olympia quite well.  I was always amazed, looking at your LE and terraforming skills, wishing I had but a tenth of it.  Anyway, it's good to see you back.  Cheers!
