ESSEN ALTSTADT part 1

Another update; today we encounter the old & historic center of "Essen" on a bright sunny day. Many streets are ped-only within the outer ring of avenues around the center. Well, have fun and enjoy lurking...

We enter the city-center from Essen main station; "Essen HBF"

In real-life the stationbuilding is more modern, but this was the only large "raised rail station"

We'll follow the avenue-loop around center east-wards...

A tunnel goes underneath a shopping-center in city center

This should represent the "Essener Rathaus", a modern skyscraper. I know it's should be brownish, but this complex was the closest I'd get to fit right here..

We come out of the tunnel on the northern side of the center

Next update we'll continue travelling around the center... Stay tuned for more & keep me commented!!

Very nice update.  I really like the over all feel of the city.  The Radisson looks great over the avenue tunnel, also very nice large lot.  The only thing I don't like is the roads not bieng smooth.  I know sometimes it's hard to do but it may look alot better i the end.

Dont worry, the Radisson building fits in perfectly. You have such an eye for detail; I really feel I'm looking at a German town. Amazing, do keepit up. And because I didnt mention it before, congratulations on your well-deserved Special Interest Award!

Hello ejc,

Essen Altstadt is really good done, maybe the Hauptbahnhof is not identical as the real one, but it matches the surrounding very good. I was in Essen only once, but I can confirm you are able to create a general atmosphere of such places. Very interesting thing for me - a mix of old w2w buildings and modern office and commercial buildings, it's a really German look (of course my opinion is only a tourist's point of view :D)

It's a bit strange how interesting can be such busy, highly industrialized cities, isn't it? ;)
Great work ejc!

Another nice update EJC.

The tunnel is very well done.  You always seem to fit so much in to such a small space.

ESSEN ALTSTADT part 2

On the edge of "Vierhofer Platz" in "Essen-zentrum Nord"

"Friedrich Ebert-straBe" near the railyards on the north-side of the center..

Western parts of city-centre where "LinderburgstraBe" crosses through older parts of the city.

More to the center; "Kennedyplatz"

Other angle on the same view..

Hard to make the dining look nice on the square's middle piece

Only trees missing here; I'm just not that good with the Lot-Editor..

That was it for now; next update we'll take a look closer on a special way to "Essen".

So; Stay tuned as I (try to) rock you with the next update!!!!

Absolutely wonderful pictures EJC.  I think you best get rid of that diner on KennedyPlatz. Without it, it would be a very attractive square.

Essen is a city in the center of the Ruhr Area in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Located on the Ruhr River, its population of approximately 582,000 (as of December 31, 2006) makes it the 7th- or 8th-largest city in Germany. The city was recently appointed European Capital of Culture for 2010 representing the whole Ruhr Area and is both member of and seat to several regional authorities, most importantly the Regionalverband Ruhr.

Formerly one of Germany's most important coal and steel centers, Essen has developed a strong tertiary sector of industry and is home to 13 of the 100 largest German corporations. Historically, it has been linked to the centuries-old Krupp family iron works. The city was chosen in 1958 to serve as the seat of a Roman-Catholic diocese, the Diocese of Essen (Ruhrbistum). In early 2003, the universities of Essen and its neighboring city of Duisburg (both established in 1972) were merged into the University of Duisburg-Essen with campuses in both cities and a university hospital in Essen.

I can't find something more original to say as I've already told you how your work is disturbing for me ... but franckly , this MD seems to don't have all the audience it deserves . ::)
Having the material to compare your work with the real Essen , the realism is breathtaking !

Yes, simply stunning work ...

Hi ejc, your recreation of the Ruhrgebiet is incredible. I can't stop looking at those region shots. It is almost unbelievable that they are taken from Sim City and not Google Earth.
Keep it up.
