CURRENTLY, THERE ARE 2 PROPOSED DIG SITES. SITE 1 BEING IN THE "FOOTHILLS" OF EVERGLADE, AND THE OTHER ON THE ANTERAGE PLAETUE'

PROPOSED DIG SITE 1

THE PROPOSED DIG SITE 1 IS LOCATED IN THE EVERGLADE "FOOTHILLS".

PROS
EASIER RAIL ASCESS
CHEAPER OVERALL
SOFT (EASY) DIRT TO DIG THROUGH

CONS:
(MAJOR) DESTRUCTION TO LOCAL FOREST
MAY CAUSE MAJOR POLLUTION TO THE FERTILE FARMLAND IN THE AREA

CON?
MAY RESULT IN THE DEATH OF SOME LOCAL MAN EATING RACOONS

PROPOSED DIG SITE 2

THE PROPOSED SITE FOR DIG 2 IS LOCATED ATOP THE ANTERAGE PLEATUE'

PROS
ALMOST ZERO DESTRUCTION TO LOCAL WILDLIFE
NO POLLUTION TO FERTILE FARMLAND

CONS
DIFFICUT LOCATION FOR RAIL TRACKS
MORE EXPENSIVE OVERALL
HARD DIRT TO DIG THROUGH

OVERALL
SITE 1
BIGGEST ENVIORMENTAL IMPACT
POLLUTION OF FERTILE FARMLAND (CAN RESULT IN LOWER CROP YEILD ie. LESS MONEY)
CHEAPER

SITE 2
ALMOST NO ENVIORMENTAL IMPACT
MORE EXPENSIVE

SO, LOYAL ECABE MEMBER OF EVERGLADE (YOU), YOU MAKE THE CALL, SITE 1, OR 2

Welcome to SC4D then!  Interesting and excellent start.  I'm looking forward to seeing what you're planning!

jmyers2043

I think site 2 is best because the hard dirt means more minerals which means a higher mining company profits. And the bottom line is what it's all about.

Plus - I am confident that the railroad engineers will find an inexpensive route to bring those raw materals to market. I don't think it is a much of a con as you fear.

By the way - get those mining company lawyers busy and negotiate the mineral rights to site one. You don't necessarily have to dig right now. But you should be thinking one step ahead of those green Sims.

Battlecat:thanks

jmyers2043: I've already chosen site 1, it will provide a "foothold" before site to, this decision actualy happened a while ago before i brought this journal over her after a debate on Simtropolis.

EVERYONE: I am just continuing my journal from the New CJ section so more people can enjoy it (your comments make me happy ) You can get the link from the top of this page

The train slowly pulls out of the freight station in the Everglade Wherehouse district.....

It is carrying 5 tons of dynamite...

Dynamite... needed for the Anterage mine.....

The train must travel slowly through the winding tracks to the Anterage Mine....

It passes the small town of Anterage, the small town that the mine company was named after, this town is expected to grow exponentialy after the mine is up and running...

Further and further into the forest, the mine is very far away....

Finaly, the dirt road leading to the mine is within sight....

The rail traveles through a narrow canyon, the only level area for the train to get to the mine...

And finaly the train arrives at the Anterage Mine Station...

The dynamite is unloaded into the station....

The dynamite is put into place.....

Then... BOOM!!! A video taken by a worker shows the explosion,

(please click the link to see)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cb4XzmECnac&feature=related

After the dust settles, its obvious that the mountain is gone.
The carefully directed blast blows the dirt away into a new mountain, buriing all the trees in the area.

A road was buldozed through the mine to make it easier to get to the Batuixe.

The carefully directed blast blew away the dirt so the layer of Batuixe is visible and easy for extracting.

A veiw from the top of the cliff shows the mine.

Some more factories popped up too, more should soon follow.

The giant scar through the forest can be seen from airplanes flying across Maine

THATS ALL FOR TODAY!!
UNTILL NEXT TIME!!

Fantastic image of your region, and nice pics of railway!!!! Great update!!!

Carvey Bridge is getting old, and is in need of an upgrade.

The bridge has over 400 cars traveling over it. This is alot of traffic for a simple street, so a road upgrade is neccesary.

A site was chosen a bit further up the river, you can see a small bit of the Carvey Biridge in the bottom right corner.

Some more buldozing and terraforming...

The ribbion cutting cerimony was held shortly after it was built, HORAY!!!

Now 600 vehicles travle over the new bridge now, thats more then last time. Its because now some other people are using the bridge, reliving some stress on the Claiud Bridge.

The old bridge now only has about 100 cars going over it.

And the old Treffor building which was abandoned was replaced because of the new traffic volume, bringing in more business.

Thats all for today!!
Untill next time!!..............

MOSAIC!!!!

EVERYONE: Sory about all the photos in the preivious updates.

A recent proposal has been made. It is a rail line from Boston, (CSGdesigns Boston) to Everglade.

CSG's BOSTON- http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=9440.0

The plan is (at the moment) for the outskirts of the cities through the rural areas inbeetween, a single track rail. And so there can be more trains running, in some of the towns along the route the track goes to a double track, so a train can be stopped at a station waiting for the track to be clear.
The single track will in-turn cut costs and when a doulble track is needed, a second one can be built right next to the old one.

The route is shown below.

Thats all for today!!
Untill next time!!

Yesterday a plan was drafted by E.T.A. (Everglade Transit Authority) It shows all the rail to be built in Everglade over the next 5 years. Some of the areas rail is planned to go does not need a rail line yet, but once it is time to build it, it will need it.

So... the map is counfusing to understand, ill try and explain.

RED: Phase 1
Solid line-currently built rail           Dotted line-Under construction

GREEN: Phase 2
                 Solid Line-planned route
                 Dotted line-Under construction

BLUE: Phase 3
             Solid Line-planned route
             Dotted line-Under construction

PURPLE: Phase 4
                  Solid Line-planned route
                  Dotted line-Under construction

Thats all for today!!
Untill next time!!

emgmod

That looks like a very scattered rail plan. Is the southbound Phase 2 the one planned leading to Boston?

marsh

The largest project for the Boston-Everglade Railroad is the Charleston Inlet Bridge. It will be more expensive then the entire Phase 1 rail project rail.

On the south side of the inlet, this area will be the cheapest to construct.

This is the plan for the bridge. It is currently going through the City Hall Concilliers for a permit. The Current road their will have to be redirected in order to comform with the grade of the rail.

The North Side of the inlet is going to be VERY Expensive. The bridge needs to be a certain height in order for ferries and other boats to be able to travele under it safley. So the land on that side hast to be heavily terraformed to compensate.

The middle section of the bridge is an island which will be heavily terraformed for the turning track. The track turns because the only place that the bridge can be built is on complete oppisite sides of the inlet. This is because a rail needs a VERY stedy grade. If this was a road bridge, it would be much easier to build.

Thats all for today!!
Untill next time!!

REPLIES

emgmod: Yes that one is the one going to Boston.  Yes, It is very scattered but the plans are almost certain to change over the years. All the planned rail on the Draft should be completed by 1998. And due to to certainly expected growth, the plans are expexted to change to compensate.

marsh,
It looks like you are off to a good start here.
I just hope that you are going to fix the the broken links and please post your pics as jpgs as it takes a very long time to load.  Also, maximum picture size is 1024 by 800, please resize your pics as soon as possible.
It might be a good idea if your read over the MD rules.  You can find them

Nardo69

Nice region and a nice project (there would be some people who'd said that this wasn't a surprise at all ...)

For the grades: YES! But here is a RL - example on how to slove this problem! (The German page provides some more pictures and details, though)

Take care
