Can't find where this request might go here...   

Ok, Just bought the HP G71 at Walmart, 4 gb ram, dual core t4300 @ 2.1ghz. 64 bit system.

I have SC4 in compat mode for XP and it runs great but the game update I can't seem to get applied, I have done it 3 times. Any suggestions?

Most likely, you'll have to run it with administrative rights (right-click the update and select "Run as Administrator").

It's most likely because the User Account Control is on. Try to disable it (http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/12/30/how-to-disable-and-turn-off-uac-in-windows-7/), and after applying the patch, you can always enable it again.
Disabling the UAC, it was my first move when I installed WIN7, never need it again. ;)

I got it figured out!   It wasn't the UAC or admin rights....   I'm the most tech advanced in my family and it was only me not used to Win7!   lol   thanks for the input!
