A collection of Maps

I am new here, and do not intend to rub the community the wrong way.  I have a large collection of gray-scale regions that I would like to share with everyone.  Here's the deal.

Some of you may remember a web-site called "Rebel13's Sim City Site".  If not, you can find links to it from Maxis' SC4 page.  You will find the page to no longer exist.  I made a post on a different SC4 forum looking for Rebel13.  A response I got was very helpful, and I fond the site on a web archive web-site.  The site is basically a list of regions that link to a gray-scale image.  Those images that are not standard size 1024x1024 (?) have links to .config files.

Here is where I come in.  I have a program that let me download all of the links at once and now I have a great collection of maps.  I feel that they are good maps, and would like to share them with everyone.  I realize that i did not make any of the maps, but acknowledgments were made on the site and I could pass them on.  I don't have permission to just take them and give them away, nor is anyone saying I can't do that, and there is nothing stopping me from just handing out the link to the page.

In total there is 26mb of map information (config included).  Work would have to be done to make sure that all of the creators would be acknowledged for their work.  The easiest way for me to share this package would be to make a folder for each creator and have one folder to control them all.  I would then compress that folder and share it.

Is that proper behavior?  Should I show each map as it is in-game?  I don't like downloading things from people I don't know.  What are the trust issues involved, and how do I work with them?

Thank you, and be well

the proper way to proceed would be to share the links to where you found the maps. thus whoever wants them can go download them, you could show pictures here so people know what they are getting, but you need not repackage them at all as far as i can see.
NAM + CAM + RAM + SAM, that's how I roll....

Alright, Thanks.  Here are instructions to access the maps:

Step 1: GoTo http://web.archive.org/web/20080418023906/http://www.rebel13.com/SimCity/Home.html

Step 2:  You will see a table with links in it.  The terrain column has links to the gray scale maps.  open the link, right click on the picture and save file to your computer.  To the right of the terrain column are the configs you need.  standard configs are 16x16 so you don't really need them.  Other configs are the proper pixel size for that gray scale (rather helpful, although you may want to change the city sizes for your enjoyment.)  The configs come compressed and the links ask you what folder to download to.

There you go.  I have only used the default in-game map creator.  If you are experienced with that then you are good to go.  I did a quick search for instructions on how to do this, and was not instantly happy, so I will post that here.

Step 1:  Make a new region and call it what you like.  Quit simcity (or alt-tab).  Find the region in the explorer.  In it's folder you will find a .config file.  It can be opened with paint (windows).  small cities are 1 pixel and red.  Medium cities are 4 pixels square and green.  Large cities are 16 pixels square and blue.  The default paint colors work.  This config file can be any size (although I believe there to be a maximum) and shape.  This is where you should extract the .config you downloaded (making sure it is called "config" and not "examplecity.config").  Once you are happy go back to SimCity

Step2: After reloading the region you will see your new configuration of city squares.  Press shft-alt-cntrl-R.  You will get a folder search prompt.  Find the gray scale and open it.   If you get a pixel error message that means your .config is wrong.  Otherwise you will now wait.

That will do it.  I spend a good deal of time making regions perfect by making them over and over with better configs, but that is up to you.

Happy City Building
