I really should pay a visit more often!

The demolition of your office block was excellent, the timing to take the photos was spot on and very realistic indeed. I've seen a few demolitions in my time! Even the setting for the office block was just right with the wide open, potentially windswept plaza area surrounding the site.

In stark contrast, a touch a glamor with the opening of the Theater was a fantastic idea.

- Audenge - City Tour, Part I -
Churches and chapels

Today we visit the churches and chapels of Audenge. We begin our tour in Rothen, the northernmost district of Audenge. The cath. "St. Rothen" is one of the smaller churches in Audenge.

Built around 1890.

We continue towards the city center and reach one of the most beautiful churches in Audenge - the Nicolas church in the district Vignaud.

Built (1822-1852) in a combination of Neo-Baroque and
Neo-Renaissance elements, is the church one of the most impressive buildings in Audenge.

The facade is crowned by two towers, with the famous "Rose Window of Audenge" in between. The center of this window (relief) is formed by images of Christ and the four evangelists.

Next to the church is the historic Cloister Garden

the picturesque interior of the church.

the cath. God's house is the second largest church in Audenge.

1942 hid the priests Franck Debuchy indigenous Jews from the Nazis. In summer 1943, the hiding place excavated and Franck Debuchy paid with his life. In 1993, the main street was named in Rue Debuchy.

We drive to the Jewish Quarter "Guri".

The Jewish community of Audenge has a centuries old tradition.
In the summer of 1943 the Great Synagogue burned down  and the local Jews were deported by the Nazis.
In 1953, exiled Jews began to rebuild the quarter.

In 1959 the new synagogue [Ben Harfa synagogue] was opened.

In 1965, the renowned Jewish Institute "Ben Gurion" was founded.

Now we visit the largest church of Audenge. "Cathédrale de Audenge" [coll: cathedral of explorers]

A painting from 1898.

The evangelical community is the largest in Rondnoir. The imposing church is the the center of Audenge "Place de la Découverte" [place of explorers].

The cathedral was designed in the Renaissance style by Dominic Frare (1565-1621) and built from 1620 to 1631. After the death of the architect Dominic Frare, the construction was continued under the leadership of his son Peter Frare (1595-1676). On 8 June 1631 the church was consecrated.

The church was built in honor of the Protestant discoverer Ludewig Audenge(1535-1600)

The tower is more famous than the church itself
The distinctive colors and the 85m high tower can be seen over long distances.

In front of the Cathedral, the famous "Wind Rose Mosaic" were laid in 1810. The compass rose has a diameter of 50 meters. A world map in the center of the mosaic shows the routes of explorers in the 15th and 16 Century.

One of the most visited places in Rondnoir.

We drive to south Audenge - the St. Certes Church (1890)

The small chapel on the southern cape of Audenge. (1798)

And now we drive in the outskirts of Audenge.
St.Claire in the district Le Ohy (1915).

The only church on the mainland - the Bosam Church in Audenge sur Mer (1913)

I hope you like our little tour...

See you soon!
