I have been out of the game for quite awhile and slowly catching back up but was wondering what everyone's thoughts were when using water. With all the custom enhancements to different plop water and canals, are people getting away from the Maxis water all together, using it just a little bit, or Maxis water still the choice when it comes to massive lakes/oceans?

Any discussion would be appreciated; I am building a region next to one of the great lakes with multiple rivers/creeks/streams and wondering what would be the best use. Or if you know of some great MDs that showcase the canals and ploppable water.

Terraforming Update (8/25/09)

each to their own but I use ploppable water only when absolutely necessary, and even then not very often. Although using "real" water requires more careful terraforming etc, it has the major advantages of real moving watercraft and waves, not to mention it looks a lot more realistic from all angles. Having said that, CAL's latest canal set does look pretty sweet: http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2373 and the NAM canal set is functional so you have some options...

for example here are some of my canals using in game water
