Retexturing existing BATs...

Does anyone know if it is possible to retexture existing BATs? Specifically, what I had in mind was to see if it was possible to match the texture of some BATs to that of some newer ones to create a more harmonized grouping of buildings.

Thanks

Well technically you just replace the FSH files inside the model, but you'll have to ask exactly how they are referenced. Making the textures look right must be a lot of "fun" though... ???

As far as I'm aware, no. I think you need to have the original gmax/MAX file and re-render it. If the makers of those lots are still around it might be worth asking, otherwise...

<EDIT> I've just seen sim-al2's post and I guess I was wrong...

It is possible but technically just for little details and it's easier to do when you have the model in Gmax and export different version.

After you can exchange the wanted FSHs in the wanted .model

There is some explanations about this however it's in french with the technic of "Refishing from Orange" ;

If you have only one version of a BAT you can work again the pictures include in the FSHs but it's with Photoshop or Gimp and it's so hard and you will not have good satisfaction (I have tried on refishing summer trees to obtain snow trees but the results are quite far from I expected) . I have never heard feedbacks about this.

So I think if you haven't the model in Gmax, it's impossible.

Well I've seen something around here about replacing a roof texture with a another one. I've never tried messing with model files so I couldn't really tell you how. It would be tons easier to just get the original model.

[Edit] I think I just said the exact same thing as Girafe. :D

I would say it is probably not worth the effort.
