Hello from a returning SC4 player.

I am due imminently to receive the SC4D DVD/CD and before I start installing buildings from it (and this website) are there any particularly lots I need to be careful of in terms of them appearing too regularly?  I remember in the past I had problems with some of Gascookers (wonderful) pubs which would make my towns look like they had serious drinking problems.  In addition, I read somewhere a few people were having issues with some of SG larger 2x2 houses (Berwick or Clarence I think).  Then of course there is the old Wren Plaza but I tend to go for smaller towns and cities so are less concerned with skyscrapers.

Any recommendations of lots not to download or only install a small proportion of the lots included in any given download.

Thanks.

Here's a link to a discussion about weeds/growing frequency.

I know about the Berwick as it grows a lot 'at times' in my cities. It it s 2X3 stage 3 R$ lot with ( IIRC ) around 45 or so residents. Your city at the time will be past the typical stage 1 and 2 R$'s that are 1X2 or 1X3. Your game at the time will be wanting more density on the lot but will not be ready for stage 4 tenements.

I relotted the Berwick home for my game. Gave it greener grass and changed the driveways/pathways. Added some Maxis backyard props and a couple of extra trees and the lots look a whole lot better - at least as far as I am concerned but that's only a temporary fix.

The ultimate goal is to provide more lots for the game to choose from. The best way to deal with weeds is to download more weeds (lots/buildings with similar charateristics). I batted some R$ homes but they turned out to be stage 1 and 2. They compete nicely with the Maxis early stage R$ housing. Have foundations so they grow on slopes without that Maxis brown box underneath.

I found it difficult to get a single small R$ of proper scale to compete with the Berwick. But since have come across some pictures of two story homes that will give me the necessary size but look like R$ housing. Should be no problem getting them to grow at stage 3.

But I am currently up to my elbows in CAM 2 beta testing right now and that project is the first on my list when I get back to the bat.

Thanks for the link and other information.  Very informative.  I guess for the sake of having all the other SG residentials a few too many Berwicks is a small price to pay and I certainly like the idea of encouraging me too download some more buildings!
