What if the dependencies of addon I want to use has it's dependencies too? For example, I want to use this http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=953, one of the dependencies is this one http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=898, and unfortunately the dependencies need dependencies too. What should I do? I'm getting tired to download tons of dependencies just to install one addon  :bomb:

You have to remember that not everything is created at the same time... a great deal of stuff for SC4 is recycled in one way or another, it's probably the greenest computer game on the planet  ;D.  Most people will already have a lot of the dependencies from previous downloads.... It's the price you pay for having custom content that surpasses what Maxis gave us.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it

so you means that I should download dependencies of dependencies too???? Oh god, what a busy day  :angrymore:

Andreas

Usually, you don't need to download a "dependency of a dependency". Dependencies are textures and models (props, buildings) that are included in another download, so you only need those. The file that is listed as a dependency might include a lot that needs other dependencies, but since you don't need the other lot for your first one, you can safely discard anything except the needed model(s) or texture(s).

Except that the file in question is farm fields, which will require the necessary props & textures to be shown properly, Andreas has a point.

iron3001, if you're having troubles gathering the CAM dependencies, you should try using the Cleanitols For Free thread linked in my signature. Used with the Cleanitol program, they will help you find and make sure you've installed all of the necessary dependencies for the CAMelot starter packs.

Well no one is forcing you to download anything... If you feel that it's excessive, then that's your right and you are free to move on.  But dependencies are a necessary part of using custom content for SC4, as it saves us having to re-invent the wheel.  Do you have the LEX Downloader program?  It'll make your life a tad simpler.

Ah - that stage 6 and 7 farms.

Farms are a special critter. A farm will have basically two sets of dependencies. One set will be those things that are specific to the farm lot. Such as grain silo's, corn cribs, tractors, fences, etc. You don't have to download that sort of stuff but your new farm lots will look sparse if you don't.

Farms grow fields. That will be your second group of dependencies. As an example - a tobacco farm will want to grow a tobacco field. And you'll need a dependency (tobacco plants) for the fields to look natural.

The good news is that these farming dependencies were done several years ago and there has not been too much additional stuff since. It's being used many times by others for various farms. So you'll be good as done once you get the necessary files. The other good news is that these farm dependencies, over time, have generally been packaged into larger files so you don't have to download tobacco plants, download corn plants, download soy bean plants, another download for chili peppers.

Funny you should talk about dependencies. Someone complained to me a year ago about having to download the Maxis Castle Ramparts because I used the fence from that prop pack when making some farm lots. I've uploaded over 40 farms and they all have that dependency. It's not like I suggest to someone that they need to download a file and it's to be used on one lot and never again. You'll find that many of the farm dependencies are used over and again by me and others on many farms. Not that it takes the 'chore' out of downloading them the first time but it is a token of hope.

Good Luck with CAM farms. They are a challenge to have grow but usually give me a sense of satisfaction when I see them appear.

Thanks everyone for your help  :)

Right now, I've downloaded all of dependencies of dependencies. I just want to make sure I don't get trouble if I'm missing one dependencies of dependencies. It's very hard to find, you know. But thanks for SC4Devotion that makes simcity 4 still interesting to play
