@ACBsan - nice looking airport you've got there. Runway might be a little short, though.

That's a really nice looking airport there, ABCsan! Great work on it!

Well, I posted this on the ST boards awhile back, but I may as well post it here too.

Lyndon B. Johnson International Airport

Welcome to Lyndon B. Johnson International Airport - also known simply as LBJ.

KLBJ serves as a hub for several major airlines, including United Airlines and discount carrier US Airways. In addition, Northwest Airlines has made LBJ a focus city.

There are four terminals and four associated concourses, with a total of 89 gates. There are four runways, 18/36 L-C-R, and 9/27. The former three runways are typically in use simultaneously, while the latter is simply an auxiliary runway used during off-peak hours and emergencies.

There are three domestic terminals. It is possible to walk from one terminal to another without needing to exit the building or reenter security.

Terminal A is used exclusively by United Airlines. It contains 17 gates, four of which are designated as 'heavy' (Boeing 747 capable).

Terminal B is used by a number of discount airlines. There are 18 gates in total.

Terminal C is the largest of the four terminals. It contains 34 gates, most of which belong to US Airways. The rest are used by Northwest Airlines.

The fourth terminal is the International Terminal. All international flights are directed to here, whether or not the airline is an American one or not. The terminal is an official port of entry and contains full customs and immigration services. The International Terminal contains 20 gates and is served by an assortment of airlines, including United, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Atlasjet, JAL, and others.

LBJ features a state-of-the-art ground light railway. The GLR has six stops, one at each terminal, and two stops in the main parking lot.

The aforementioned remote parking area contains several thousand parking spaces that supplement the garages found in front of each terminal. A shuttle bus connects travelers from their cars to the GLR stations, providing a fairly quick trip to the terminal. Parking rates are cheaper to offset the slight inconvenience.

The airport also has a small general aviation area. In addition, the nearby commercial district contains hotels, shopping, and several offices.

Interstate 13 tunnels underneath runway 9/27 and a pair of taxiways, connecting the airport to the business district shown above.

Finally, here's a random shot of the north-eastern part of the airfield.

Comments and criticisms are welcome!

cameron1991

Thats an incredible airport The_Hutt!  &apls &apls
Suplado, yours is also very good, I love the terminal layout but the runway looks a bit too short for 767 operations (they generally require about 2500m for takeoffs and landings)

figui

i'd agree the runway is too short, but the overall look is very good suplado!

Yes, a wonderful new airport there, suplado!
Great work on it.

The_Hutt

Wow, lots of feedback here, thank you all!

Filasimo - Well, I'll make a true gargantuan eventually (eight runways and 200 gates sound good to you?), so you can vote for that one come next time.
canuck3360 - I never got around to adding a cargo area, I was pretty much spent by the time I finished planting trees.
porter66083 - Well, it took me about three weekends from start to finish, so I put perhaps ten hours or so into it. Time consuming, I know.
bat - To be honest, I think the parking lot needs improvement. I might make the light rail go through it instead of around it so that people don't need to catch a shuttle to the station, they can just walk a short distance. Thanks for the compliment!
figui - Planned? Oh, no, there was no plan involved. I just started with a terminal building and went from there. Great things are made from spontaneity, I suppose.
suplado! - Thanks, mate. Your airport looks pretty good, too. I would lengthen the runway by two-three times longer but other than that it looks pretty good. Nice 767's by the way.
cameron1991 - Thank you!

I'll post some more airports from time to time for your viewing pleasure.

Wow The_Hutt: that airport is insane. Very well drawn up, and very though out. I only think that the terminal building at the International Terminal is too small to handle so many wide-wodies at ones - I mage 1000's of people going through passport control, conveyor belts for the luggage and customs areas...

Suplado: your airport is wonderful to. A pitty that the textures comes with grass edges and not with dessert, but the approaching airport in the picture is taking all attention anyhow. Well cone

@suplado: your airport isnt huge but its simple and well laid out, great work pare  &apls you and hutt shouldve got best airport award

Everybody's airports are looking great. Congrats to all of you.  &apls

Hey, Hutt, why don't you post your airport recreation? I think both your airports are great, but I like KSMF slightly better. Later.
