To start, I've been playing Sim City since the the original and been an avid user of this website.  It's the best Sim City 4 site on the web, thank you to all the designers and mods for making my experience better.  I'm new to posting on the forum, but my question is:

Is there a way to make an entire region 1 city?  i know the region's are split into different squares (small, medium, and large) and i'm not talking about city size in terms of population, but rather tiles.  i want to be able to click on a region and play the entire thing as 1 single city.  Is that feasible?

nekseb

No - there is no possibility to have a region as a "whole city".

A region is already split in cities / squares (small, medium & large).
I don't need to know everything, I only need to know someone who knows!

ok well is there anyway to expand the squares themselves?

MandelSoft

No, the city sizes are fixed. Not only is it impossible to increase the city tile sizes, but it would also be a hell for  your PC.

what is the reason behind why you aren't able to increase the tile size of a city beyond the standard "large" city?

cogeo

The reason why you can't increase the size of a "large" city beyond 256x256 tiles is simply... design limitations, or else "specs".

You can only re-arrange the config.bmp file and consolidate small and medium cities to large.

thedonclark01

Does anyone know where the data (specs) are in the games registry?  And in other words it means that the designer coded and locked the specs?

I think what you are looking for is in the first part of this tutorial. The answer is a qualified yes.  You can have one large city in one region but it will be 4x4 pixels.

I'm not sure if that tutorial is solving my dilemma.  I know that in Simcity 4 a person chooses a region and that region is divided into city squares (small, medium, and large).  the "large" city square is 256 x 256 tiles.  A tile being a small square used to build upon.  I'm just stating this becuase i think sometimes people can get confused about the definitions due to their similarities.

What I want is to increase the "large" city beyond 256 x 256 tiles.  The reason is because i don't feel that it's large enough to build an actual city considering the vast array of plugins and growth potential.  Most real world cities have the ability to expand if need be, so i'm looking to find a way to increase beyond 256 x 256 tiles per city.

If you find a possibility to increase the city tiles you'll need also new hardware... ;)

A big / large city needs, if she is fully developed, an powerful processor to calculate traffic and all the other. Thats among others why sometimes the display at large city's jerks. If you increase the city tiles this will be enhanced.

On the other side - a big city in RL has also neighbourhoods and for example a region like the "Ruhrgebiet" in Germany consists of many single city's but seems like one city, but is not.
