Hey everyone, I am a New York City fan, or just a urban fan, I want to know is it possable to make Residential buildings to have jobs, what I mean is can they act as two things, why I asked is because in the big cities there are stores on the ground floor and they be usally apartments on the upper floors, same thing with office buildings, some office highrises have apartments at the higher floors with the offices on the uppers floor and have commercial service stores on the ground floor. Now I have seen a thread here some here where someone tied to mke this happen, I do not know where this thread is a now I can't find it, but if anyone come across that thread please post it here so I can look at it again. :)

Here are some google map links to what I am talking about.

Commerial service and the ground floor and residential on the upper floors.

unfortunately, due to limitations in the game it is NOT possible at this time. Even in small towns this is very common, stores on bottom floor and offices/apartments up top, but maxis didnt feel it was important enough to implement it into the game

Thank you for posting so soon, I have looked around in the Sim City_1 Dat file and try to learn How making a zone works for Sim City 4. I still not going to give up yet. Maybe it is more possable to make a new zone than to mod the lot to act as  two things.  &mmm The areas I looked in the reader is the Developer, Simulator, and the RCI files, like the low wealth resiedential ID is 1010, R$$ 1020, R$$$ 1030.

Quite while back, when toying around with the Reader, I did stumble onto a property called "Allow Joint Occupancy" (0x27812836), which accepts a Boolean (true/false) value and its description reads "if true, different types can occupy the same building simultaneously".  It is unused in any of the exemplars in SimCity_1.dat, and I haven't yet really figured out any way to actually get it to work, however, so it may be a dead-end.

Of course, I'm pretty much strictly a transit modder, so someone else may know more.

Assuming a scenario in which this property isn't broken, you would need to add all relevant properties related to two different zone types in the lot and building files (Guessing, of course). Or until now unknown properties that act as hybrids of different zone types.

Allow Joint Occupancy would have to override zone types, too, in order for this succeed. Furthermore, you'd need to make a new query to display all the relevant information.

We had a similar discussion some time ago here. ;)
As far as I know, the property Allow Joint Occupancy is unfortunately one that Maxis didn't implement at all.

RippleJet- Thanks, is there another thread on this, and if so can you can post it. I'm still trying to see if this works. :D

The link is in his post, found by clicking on the word "here".

Allow Joint Occupancy does sound interesting.  My first guess is that if a property like that is functional, then someone would have already done it.  Who knows? Maybe it needs to have Reps set to 1.
