Beautiful lake, TTC! Excellent job!

Fred_Ginger

Pretty Lake TTC, although at that altitude I'd imagine it would stay frozen most of the time, unless of course there is a hot springs?  Glad to hear of the protection order on your road.  I really miss old state route 40 and it's beauty!

Hello TTC,

First of all I must say I love roads in mountains - and your is outstanding. Are you going to make any rest stop here? Or B&B? It would be nice.

I had a lot of work today and I'm tired. I came to your lake to have some relax, this is very good place for it.

When I was young, I spent a lot of time in mountains. My favourite place was Five Ponds Valley in Tatra Mountains (on the Polish/Slovak border). One year I spent there about 4 months - I was a student and I have some problems with my exams when I came back to the university.
There were five ponds in this valley and a small refuge at the biggest of them. The best period to stay there was November an December before Christmas - a lot of snow and only a few people. We helped the refuge's owner in daily works.
There were a lot of trouts in the biggest pond. One time many years ago the refuge's owner brought them up from the main valley and put into the pond. About 10 years later one scientist obtained a doctorate writing a thesis in wchich he explained how trouts migrated to the 5 Pond Valley from the river 500 m lower (and 70 m waterfall).
We also had a special kind of tea there - mountainers' tea (strong tea, much sugar and much spirit). Very nice in the winter evening round the fireside. I can say we all were spiritists at that time...

Got your cuppa? Sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin this update.

Welcome once again. Thank you all for your replies.

CabraBuitre: Its great to see you here again. Don't worry no need
to apologise - you just missed out on the welcome cuppa  $%Grinno$%
Thank you.  This is just the type of comment I love to see - how my
work brings back memories for people. I crossed the Swiss Alps in
the middle of winter on my bicycle - scary memory ( shivers - lost one of
my nine lives there and almost a toe! ) Even today it gives my the chills
thinking about it but its a great memory all the same :D

Flame1396: And you too. Stay tuned new developments in the region
and a few questions too - got your attention have I?  ;D

Patfirefghtr: Popping round the town asking the sims for their
gossip.;) hope that 'cano keeps the lake from freezing over it
would make a great tourist spot. Looking forward to passing you
your tea when you pop back. (ps I still got plans for you;))

Thundercrack83
: Cheers mate. It'd be a great place to develop if
it does freeze but I hope not.

Fred_Ginger: Thank you. Hot springs  :o  Now theres an answer. (thinks
for a minute hmmm great idea , slots away for future use, hope I
remember where i put...........................................

what am I trying not to forget?   emm emm ) LOL there are plans for
it but good plans!

Ennedi: Thank you very much.

yes some  suicide view points are planned. B&B what a great idea
oooh how about cals Summerton Mill II or even his Old Coach House.
Thanks for a wikked suggestion mate.
Thats a great fishy tale too and its nice to hear it brought back
memories for you also. Thats the aim of all this in a way a place
to everyone to share little snippets about their memories.

Now I like your special kind of tea. Sounds just what I could do
with right now;)

Heres something thats puzzled me for a while.

While doing some testing earlier on tonight I noticed that farms produce an
awful lot of traffic on the roads. I mean in comparison to industrial traffic.

For example take this farm. Its the only structure other than the
wind turbine at this stage on the map.

Lets run the game to get some data and  now we have quite a number
of trucks leaving the farm

Using the query tool its 13 trucks! Now is this on a daily basis? a week, month or year?

Ok lets build a small factory (I'm sure you all recognise it :))
Whats this only 1 truck? just 1? yet in this pic alone even hidden
by the path I can see at least 6 on the way to the junction alone

Ok surely at night time the traffic will die down - I mean most
workers are at home, at least on the farm eh? lets see.

What's this? Its just as heavy. But why? Look at the time its 23.00 hrs
Can anybody explain this. Is there a mod to fix this? or do I use
ilives reader to fix each building or wait till the X Tool comes out?
It just seems wrong to me that the farms produce so much traffic
in comparison to industrial.

All thoughts and comments welcome :D

This is more of a question and answer update proper one in the works:)

Hmmm Derry to answer your first question... You have the New NAM 6/07?  If thats the case then
did you select the opition to have more road capacity? Cause i know from personal exprience
with new NAM and the multiply road cap mod selected i have more traffic...

Now onto your second question in why the chicken crossed the road... I think he was
hungry enough to try the seed on the other side of the road. Also i think he wanted
to get away from his mate LoL...  Finaly in observation i think that car had a diffrent
view point on the chicken  :D

I will be waiting to see what you come up with and will see you next update!
Ohh im still looking for that rasberry tea..

I was directed to this thread from the one regarding the BSC Farm EP 2007....

TTC,

The amount of trucks produced by any industrial lot (Ag, ID, IM, IHT) is a percentage of the jobs at that particular lot. In the Traffic Exemplar (either the default or one of the NAM ones), there is a property called "Freight Traffic Scaling Factor" which has the description of "Percentage of industrial bldg. population that will generate freight trips" in the Reader and, I think, SC4Tool when you are modding. The default value of this property is "0.05". The game seems to round up every value to the next whole number. If it rounds some down, I haven't investigated this so I wouldn't know.

Now, your farm in your picture is adding up two numbers to get the "Building Population" value. It's adding the 10 jobs of the main building + 1 job/field tile this particular case (Jez Knight Acres = 10 jobs). So the more field tiles you have attached to the farm, the more trucks will be created by the farm.

Farley's Foundry has 9 jobs and with the calculation of 0.05*9, it should produce 0.45 trucks (mathematically). Since you can't have a partial truck, it rounds it up to 1 truck. If you add more industrial zoning for the non-agricultural industry near Farley's, you should see the number of trucks go up as the zone fills up with lots.

In regards to the number of trucks during the day and night, it is dependent on the actual game hour (0-24). The numbers of vehicles at the different times of day are controlled with the Automata Tuning file (either game default or one of the NAM files). There are several "clock" properties which control the number of vehicles that appear on the roadways at the different times of day.
The one for the trucks has 34 Reps (or 17 pairs) for the values. The first value of each pair is the time of day and the second value of each pair is the percentage (-1 to 0 to 1) of the traffic amount. The time of day has to be in 24 hour time (0-24) and decimal values are allowed (ie 9.5). A negative value for the traffic amount percentage indicates returning traffic. Don't try this with the freight traffic (trucks or trains) as the game only has the freight traffic leaving a city. It seems to be a hard-coded thing with the EXE.

I hope this information is useful....

Yeah farm traffic is a bit unrealistic. There is massive traffic from them around here during harvest season, but minimal amounts usually.

Interesting question Derry, and good noticed !

I cannot follow what Jan writes - the clock part is leaving me with big blue eyes staring at the screen trying to figure out the language - but I don't doubt that he is right though !

Got your cuppa? Sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin this

update.

Welcome once again. Thank you all for your replies.

Ok I was doing some work on a tile last night and saw a site perfect for a waterfall.
Its been a long time since I built one. I thought lets see what happens if I do this.....

I gouged a canyon using the god tool on size2 and tapped a valley out,
down the hill right near the tile edge.

5 saves and reloads and I was happy with the result.
Throw in some flora and rocks near the bottom ..

Then time to add some water.using Jeroni's "rural culverts".

Now something for Pat :)  ----    PW

Same shot at sunrise and at noon. Just for comparison ;)

And the Hall of Fame entry in current comp :)

Now for some replies.

Pat:   yes I do, Nope set as default. I got my answer see swampers reply :) As for the chicken I let you know ;) Glad you got your cuppa mate

Gaston: Thank you for referring the question. Look at the detailed reply I got thanks to you;) No need to be sorry Its I who is grateful and you deserved your karma+ :)

Swamper: Thank you for such a detailed answer.  I even understood it. At least now I wont be so frustrated by it.

Flame1396: That is my experience of it too and you understand now why I was always wondering why it was so unbalanced in the game.

Fred_Ginger: LOL that was my reaction when I first read swampers reply but after a couple more it clicked!

Sebes: Thank you - Actually thats been bugging me for years but at least now I can find a way around it (ie no freight trucks on the road mod, force onto rail etc.)

Well thats all for now. Oh thats the kettle boiled. Gotta go make a cuppa :)

Exceptionally well done waterfall. I especially like the details shown at the bottom of the cascade. Your attention to detail is, as usual, quite a sight to see (pardon the pun). Even if it has been a while since you have last made a waterfall, it doesn't show. This is as good, if not better, than what you had before (which was pretty good anyway). Out of curiousity, what(whose) pw do you use? It looks really good the way you use it. Hope things are well for you.

Gaston

TTC,
Thank you for the karma.   Every bit helps,  LOL.    That is a great waterfall.   I love the way you used the free flowing stream to get the effects of spray.    I always have trouble getting that to go where I need it.     BTW, what ploppable water are you using?    It doesn't look like edmonton.    Anyway,  glad I could help with the traffic question.
