New CAM City - no Residential demand?

Hi guys,

I have a problem in one of my newly founded SC4 cities...no residential citizens of any kind seem to be moving in. The demand is literally zero (-6000++), whereas commercial & industrial demands are at their maximum (above ~24k). I've already tried to compensate by zoning a bunch of industrial & commercial areas, with no effect. I've also searched through forums & CAM's manual, but the only indication I could find, as to a possible cause for this issue, would be CAM's optional "CAM_5%_R$$_Working_in_CS$/ID/IR.dat" plugin(s), which I have installed along with CAM.

Is this initial negative residential demand normal, when using that optional plugin, or is something else wrong? My city is starting to look extremely unrealistic, with tons of industrial & commercial zones, but not a single residential house. :-(

Note: I am using a previously designed, self-made region for this new project, which has around 200k residents, but to be on the safe side, I've demolished all nearby cities & disconnected all transit network connections from the new city.

Remember that all demand is regional. I wager a guess that demand is low in your other cities too. Can you start a new city that is not connected already? It may not be enough to simply remove preexisting connections. Although, I'm not familiar with what information is written into the the 'regional' part of a save game file.

I'd like to see if you've reached a residential cap. Do you have the Census Repository? A screen shot of the query will give me a clue and will also tell me what tax scheme you've set up.

I typically do not have this problem. But I also do not use the optional plug in either.

[edit] just thought of something. Try planting some trees on your residential zoned areas. This will temporarily raise the local desirabiltiy of the land until some homes develop. You should not have to do this for a new city with few residents. But i sometimes get sluggish residential development when my city gets to be 100K sometimes....I should qualify the statement by saying that I'm using CAM 2 rural (beta)

Thanks for your swift reply JMyers ;)

I think I got it fixed - taking into account your notes regarding regional influence, I deleted all remaining cities across the region, bringing its entire population down below 1,000 total residents..and having just loaded up my "problem-town" to check the effects, the issue apparently has gone - residential demand just went through the roof. :)

Hello, can you help me? I havent residencial demand...

Korot

@fernandolopes: Could you give some more information? Just having no demand could just mean that all RES demand has been satisfied, in which case I'd suggest building some COM and IND, which should create a demand for workers, e.g. a demand for RES.

Korot gives good advise - especially for more information.

Do you have the CAM? I assume you've played the game before and residential growth has not been a problem in the past? If so, what is different this time? A new plugin or mod perhaps? Is this the first city of your region or a new city in an existing region. Can you post a picture of the Census Repository query? That will be a big help.

I know this is resurrecting an old thread, but I just had this problem and solved it rather simply. As Ripplejet has explained, it's all about demand and neighboring cities. I'm building a huge and detailed city based on the five boroughs of  New York, and I've done a lot of infrastructure building before anything else. I've started letting some individual "cities" grow, often next to cities that are essentially empty; those are the cities with zero residential demand.

Try as I may, the green bar would not budge from the bottom, even as industry and commerce were merrily growing. Finally, in desperation, I deleted the city and renamed it with the same name; green bar was now in positive territory, and the city began to grow. My one caveat is to start slow; agricultural growth in the center of a large format city with a small residential area attached. If you build to close to the border of another city and connect with them, the pent-up regional demand will slow you down, or it did in my case. I connected to other cities only by rail at first, but I don't see why a single road wouldn't work just as well. After the city starts growing, connect all you want.

When I deleted the city, I reset the demand in relationship to the other cities, right?
