i am running win 7 64bit, with amd phenom x3 @ 2.1ghz 4gb ram

the first problem i have is the game keeps crashing, i can play for what seems like a couple of hours, then the game shuts down with out any warning, or error messages.

and is there any way to get the resolution right for 1920 x 1080p ?

Hello insomaniac,,

First of all, Welcome to SC4Devotion! :)

Second of all, I can only help you with the first question...

Start the game, and wait till you are in region mode.
Then press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, then click on Start Task Manager.
Then a box will appear, click on Processes and then click on Simcity4.exe, right click on Simcity4.exe and
go to "Set Affinity" And Uncheck one of the boxes, I unchecked CPU 1, Click Ok, minimize Task Manager and click on Sim City 4 on the task bar to go back to the game... :)

It worked wonders for me, although you have to do this every time you start the game...If this doesn't work then go to the "Re: SOLVED: My game crashes to Desktop ¡¡¡" topic... Here's the linkie ;

Here's what to do:

For the crash, it happens usualy when you toy with the NAM, when you zoom to fast or unzoom and zoom very fast. One thing to prevent the game from crashing is to set it run on ONE of your CPU core. As the game dates back 2003 it was not officially developed to be run on multi core CPU, this is why you have to do as Ricky said, but I have another solution or you.

For your resolution problem, here's how you can do that.

First, locate your SC4 shortcut. The one you use to run the game every day. and then, right click on it and go to property. you should get a windows to pop up, locate the line " target " and you should have something like this "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\simcity 4 deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" ( Note, I have my game running on steam, if you haven't your location is program files/maxis etc ).. just after that text line, in the same box as the adress line, just add those codes:

-CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -w -intro:off -CPUCount:1

Here's what they mean:

-CustomResolution:enabled : enable the custom resolution of the game, allowing you to play at different sizes.

-r1920x1080x32 : is the resolution you've choose. note that the x32 is the quality of the color. You have choice between x16 or x32 ( if I remember correctly. )

-w : Here, you have the choice between -w or -f   ... w is for windowed mode and f for full screen. windowed is very useful for me as I have a dual screen computer.

-intro:off : turn off the intro.

-CPUCount:1 : Finally, the most important, it make the game launch on ONE core of your CPU. This is useful to let you NOT do Ricky's way every time you launch the game, as some time people tend to forget about that.

Another important note, in order to the codes to work, you have to: let a SPACE between the first code and the " of the target. Secondly, important too, let spaces between EACH code. If not you'll not have the codes to work while launching the game, or either the pop up windows won't let you save as the target is not correct..

I hope this was useful!

Good game, and welcome!

-Arthur.
