Another train almost done. This time a request from Mark / droric:

EDIT: Updated the skin a little (old version).

Might change the yellow lines to two lines at the bottom and one at the top a bit like on this one:

One thing I have been wondering about the orange color scheme. Is the colors taken from the Great Northern:

What program do you use for the trains models?
In case i can try to make the engine by myself...

Try to read through that thread.
I use a combination of different programs:
MilkShape3d, LithUnwrap, 3ds Max.

If you need any help, you can post your question in the thread: Help with automata.

Flaviolovesimcity4

Unfortunally for the program you're using don't have 32bit version..
I think i need to wait for a better pc, seems the be the best program for models :/

Which program are you talking about:
Milkshape is in 32 bits and Blender (free) as well.
Think its only the newest version(s) of 3ds max that only comes in 64 bits.

Used both MilkShape (cheap 25$€) and LithUnwrap (free) on Windows 7 32 bits.

MilkShape has some advance over the bigger programs. One major thing is it reads the 3ds you gets from iLive Reader (the old version).
Think the new version of the reader do write useful 3ds files.

Still I would recommend you to start of by just reskinning one of the mods. Get you head around that part, before get further a head.
Took me quite some years to get to the point where I could do my own models.

Flaviolovesimcity4

Mhm... i don't have a credit card and a good pc, so my dream for italian engines stop here for now...
I was thinking about AutoCad for 3D models, but for that i always need to pay  &sly

Lets stop this side topic about automata modding.
If you want any help please take it to the thread I pointed you to earlier:
Help with automata

Most what I told you in these last posts is more or less written in the Tutorials on AUTOMATA MODDING thread.
Have you looked into Blender, its free. Pretty sure it can export what you do into a 3ds file.
Know others here on the forum uses Gimp as the images editor, instead of Photoshop.

You will have better luck posting in that thread than in here.

At the moment I am make reworking the BNSF skin, so its simpler and probably better looking in the game. So far I have redo the side:

EDIT: Suggests for color schemes are still welcome.

Anyone likes Baltimore & Ohio (B&O):

Arne that looks awesome!!  The orange black and the logo are really the hero elements and tie it together.  Nice work capturing the essence of the train.

PC Specs: i2700k @ 4.9 Ghz, 16 GB @ 1600-8-9-8-16, 2X GTX 580 SLI, Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3R, 120 GB Vertex 3 SDD, 3 TB RAID1, 1200W SilentGold, Antec P180B case, Win 8 x64 Pro

Thank you Mark.

The second version of the BNSF:

That's a very good work but... i saw something that you can do for make it better:
the glass on the train, why don't make a Sim inside it :P?

You simply wouldn't be able to see the sim inside the train anyways.  It would be only a pixel or two in size.

PC Specs: i2700k @ 4.9 Ghz, 16 GB @ 1600-8-9-8-16, 2X GTX 580 SLI, Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3R, 120 GB Vertex 3 SDD, 3 TB RAID1, 1200W SilentGold, Antec P180B case, Win 8 x64 Pro

... and with the angle of the game, the people would only show if the were place up against the window.

I am now rename these unit to be E-units. They have 6 axis.

Here is another one that color scheme that never have been seen on the EMD E and F locomotives.

Inspired by the Union Pacific, Heritage Units: Southern Pacific, Black Widow.

EDIT: Looks like I need to turn down the highlight on the no signs. Before they disappeared into the main body. Now they just stand out a little to much.

Nice train skin Vester! &apls I've always liked American engines

Glad you like it.

Here is new one:

Been reworking the UV-mapping and adding details to the model and texture.

That looks amazing. Great job as always. I really like the colors on this engine.

Just curious, as you mentioned that you were adding to the model, would it be possible to change the front windows?  Instead of the 'sad eyes' (I don't know how else to say it) to a more rounded rectangle shape.

I don't know if they are really visible in game or not but that is how the windows look on the real engines.  Just some constructive criticism, your work is always top notch.

vester

Thank you jmdude.
