Nice downtown area Dave.

Not sure about the "Bush Cheney" billboard though!

jimmymac

Congrats on the move to classics, definately well deserved (sorry it's a belated congrats, work has come back and hit me like a bat to the head.)

Speaking of bats, I'm looking forward to seeing the Ironmen go off against the Stags in a season game sometime soon  ;D

thundercrack83

Congratulations on 300 comments, Dave! I'll be looking forward to whatever you've got in store for us next!

Jmouse: Thanks Joan, appreciate the comments as always.

bat: Hi bat, thanks for commenting.

thundercrack83: Thanks Dustin, and here's a few more pic's

stewart_garden: Thanks Stewart, no more probing questions from me, yet  ;D

rooker1: Hi Robin. GLR, its growing on me. Haven't used it alot previously so in my eyes it tends to stand out a bit too much.
Thanks for commenting.

paroch: Thanks paroch, I'll see if I can find someone to change that  :)

jimmymac: Thanks Stu, I bet running a baseball league takes a bit of time too  ;)
Going on pre-season form, I don't think you'll have much to worry about  &mmm

thundercrack83 Hi Dustin, you snuck that one in while I was preparing this update. 300 posts, to be honest I hadn't noticed but "wow".
Thankyou my friend.

St Leonards

Well the commercial precinct is continuing to expand. It is a highly serviced area, with subway, rail, GLR, bus, ferry and
road transport all available options. If only they could fit in an airport  :)

The completed rail station with GLR connection.

The ferry terminal, a popular lunch time venue. Lots of sun and a great view. Just make sure you
feed the seagulls, otherwise they'll help themselves.

Across the water a small residential area on one of the city's islands.

These residences have a great view back towards the city. I'm sure it won't be long before
they are replaced with some high wealth high-rises.

The GLR is showing some good usage. No choice really, there are no rail or subway connections on the island.

Back on the main island, a completed transport hub, just waiting for some development.
The brick walls are becoming a favourite.

Hope you enjoyed this update. A bit later than expected, my apologies.

Cheers

Dave

St Leonards looks really great, tooheys!
Wonderful pictures of it and nice picture of the rail station with GLR connection!
Also great pictures of that highway!

Jmouse

As always, your transport system is unparalleled. The underground highway in pic 5 is especially stunning.
I'm curious about the ferries. I seem to recall your using them in previous cities along with bridges, but I never thought to ask about effectiveness. My own thought is that an auto ferry invites Sims to drive, and they don't need any extra encouragement for that! A passenger ferry would be better IMO, but if it isn't used, it's just an unnecessary expense. Also, the only passenger ferry I know of is that ugly Maxis creation.
I'd like to hear your thoughts on the subject.

Until next time...
Joan

thundercrack83

Well, St. Leonards has lived up to what I thought it would be! I love the skyline and the highways, fantastic work!  Great job, my friend!

bat: Thanks bat

Jmouse: Hi, Joan. I've found that the ferries do carry a bit of vehicular traffic, but I tend to have connecting transport systems at the ferry terminals (busses, subway etc) which seems to encourage more passenger usage. Vehicular ferries also carry foot traffic. The other benefit, it adds a bit of water traffic to the scene.

IMO, I don't find the maxis ferry terminals too bad. Over here anyway, terminals aren't the most well designed or beautiful of buildings. As for variety there are a few around:

These are of course both vehicle and passenger terminals. All are PEG's. The bookends work well on their own while the middle two are best with the related docks/boardwalks.

These two are passenger only but will travel to all terminals. They also have there own unique ferries. The one on the left should be used with the related boardwalk props. The other is standalone and also has a bus station included and generates a small yellow water taxi.

thundercrack83: Thanks Dustin, appreciate the comments.

St Leonards

Now for a completely different side to St Leonards. A few shots of work undertaken around the lake and lower falls.

Upper carpark and lakeside track

The main falls to the left takes most of the water flow. However some water has been diverted to a couple of
manmade cascades. Walking tracks lead to great views from above and below both the falls and cascades.

Hope you enjoy.

Cheers

stewart_garden

Great updates Dave.

No worries about your 'probing' questions - I'm old enough and ugly enough to look after myself!

A question for you first:

Where did you get these ferry terminals?

The one on the right, especially, is just what I have been looking for.

Second, a couple of suggestions (and they are just that, suggestions - feel free to ignore them):

i) Have you considered an asphalt mod for your highways - I prefer it to the default concrete colour.
ii) Have you considered a tram mod instead of the default maxis elevated train for your GLR.  The VDK sets, the Nottingham tram, the Houston tram and the Dockland Light Railway mod are my favourites.  Happy to link you to them if you are interested.

Cheers,

Stewart
First things first, but not necessarily in that order.

bat

Beautiful looking lake there, tooheys! Great pictures of that!

Jmouse

That's a beautiful park you've created, and St. Leonards as a whole is looking terrific.
Thanks for sharing your experience with ferries. I'll probably give them a try, but not at the expense of bridges which I find very attractive.

Until next time...
Joan

St leaonard park is wonderfuly made ( love the water fall and the fact there is not just one way for the water to get "downstair") and nice collection of ferry terminal !!

Khiyana

thundercrack83

Wow, I love the parklands in St. Leonards, too! Excellent job, as always, Dave!

rooker1

tooheys, Your last few updates were very good.  And your collection of ferry's is exactly the same as mine.  I use and like them all.  They also work fine for me.
Anyways, I have a suggestion.  Have you ever considered to lower your lake/river by 15 meters so you could use the on slope network pieces over it.  It's just that it may look more realistic, although alot more work.  This way you could have banks and bridges.  I think it would look fantastic, but it's just a thought and only my opinion.
Everything else is just great my friend. See you again soon.

Robin
Call me Robin, please.

Hi Dave,

St Leonards is looking great.  The Commercial District must be a hive of activity.

The park is also really nice.  I like the way you've mixed the different trees in - they work well together.  And the parking lot fits in just right and is very realistic.  Just need an ice-cream van in the car park and it would be like all the parking areas in parks near where I live :P

I have most of the ferries you've shown but have trouble making the roads connect onto PEGs ferry lots.  The ferry gets used but I just cannot get the road to actually connect with the road on the lot.  Never a problem with the Maxi default ones - any ideas?

I'm also impressed with the speed and volume of your updates.

stewart_garden: Stewart, appreciate the feedback. You will see a Hwy mod in the following update, I think it's
an improvement. Also working on the tram mod.

Here is the link for the ferry terminal.

bat: Hi Bat and thanks.

Jmouse: Not a problem Joan and thanks for dropping by as always.

nova vesfalo: Thanks for the comments

Khiyana: Glad you dropped by, thanks.

thundercrack83: Thanks mate, really appreciate you dropping by.

rooker1: Robin, have taken this on board and will certainly try out later on, a little too late to try in St Leonards,
but will get in touch to discuss when I have the opportunity to use the idea. As I mentioned to Stewart, I appreciate this kind of feedback,
it's difficult to improve without it.

paroch: I have experienced that problem with the terminals and related docks. I have found it has to do with the angle of view, it's
difficult to explain, so I will PM you in the next couple of days with an example of how to overcome the problem (I hope)

patfirefghtr: Guru No.2 (hey that rhymes). Pat well done, and it's always a pleasure to have someone as enlightened as you
dropping by  :P With you showing me the path to eternal happiness, how can I go wrong  $%Grinno$%

St Leonards

Well, we will stick to the lake area and the surrounding residential development .

Mainly low density residential, and still very green. A popular place to live, despite a reasonably long commute into the city.

What is it with toilet paper in trees, don't get it, does it mean you think the colour of the leaves is s@%t??

The local elementary and high schools. A number of unique subjects are taught, including an introduction to crematoriums,
seems a lesson is in progress. Don't worry, the only thing that gets turned to ashes here are the daily cafeteria leftovers.
Look at it this way, lives are probably being saved.

Well another mayor, a man of the people, separated from the people. The fence, well thats not to stop the people getting in, but the pets from getting out. Although the dog has yet to be shot for squeezing thru the rails.

One of the many islands in the stream. The park at the top Parton Park, and the bottom, Rogers Reserve,
separated by Cleavidge Drive. Reported to be the hideout of the coward of the county.

Well one more down, many more to come. There was some great feedback from the last update, it is most appreciated.
Feel free to voice your opinions/suggestions, I'm still learning and welcome any ideas to help me along the way. We won't
always agree, hey that's life, but I will always appreciate your comments, if it gets me thinking, its got to be good.

Cheers

Dave

That lake area is looking very great! Wonderful work on it! Great details!

Jmouse

Beautiful neighborhood, one of the best yet. It has a unique quality about it that's difficult to pin down, but distinctive just the same. Hope there will be much more to come!

Until next time...
