East Tenne: National Zoo

By popular demand, the city's mayor has decided to open a zoo. The National Zoo is the first large scale zoological park in Schulmania. Located in the Sixth Arronidssement of the capital, the zoo occupies a wooded parcel midway between the main diplomatic complex and a large creekside residential area a bit to the south. If everyone is good during our trip, we'll all stop by the gift shop on the way out!

National Anthem

Schulmania's national anthem, Hail to Thee, Schulmania, has been released on YouTube for your viewing and listening pleasure. As you listen, enjoy these images of cities all across the nation. These photos give you an idea of the rich heritage and diverse places within the feline realm.

East Tenne: Paper Pushers

Government offices are located throughout the capital. Many of the most significant ones are located in the Royal Quarter and the Feline Quarter. But, all of those government offices and institutions which don't require the Supreme Wirdle's daily oversight need somewhere to be as well. Many of them and concentrated in the fourth and fifth arrondissements. District IV is known as The Citadel, as it contains a large building which sits upon a hill just like a citadel in the times of yore. A large cluster of government facilities centers around Clark Square. This cluster is devoted to education and culture. There are other clusters scattered through the Government Districts. Executive and legislative offices are in the Royal Quarter, proximate to Wirtyplace.

The Fine Arts Council sponsors artists of all types and administers museums and cultural facilities across the nation. Performing arts and musicians of all sorts are subsidized by the FAC. Feline opera is always a popular selection with the general public.

A lovely plaza behind the FAC building hosts sculptural exhibits and outdoor theater. But, NO MIMES!

That's right: there's no time for the mime. My rhyme is prime and being a mime is not a crime. But, NO MIMES!

The National Archives hosts many important documents and artifacts. Want to see the Supreme Wirdle's first scratching post? It's there. The charter of the Feline Interplanetary Friendship Association? Got it. Financial records dating back to the dawn of recorded time? Yup.

The Education and Literature Commission Office hosts the bureaucrats in charge of education and print materials. Now, you might be concerned about the state of feline education due to the English spelling of lolcat speak. But, fear not. Felines spell well in their native languages. But, translation into English often leaves room for error. The world would be a better place if we all spoke Meow.

Outgoing Education Commissioners Chalmers and Skinner have left a strong staff in place here. Incoming Commissioners Clark and Stickley will be well prepared for continuing our ambitious Nine Lives Education Program.

The Education Cluster of government offices

If you want to catch a government official for an informal chat, head over to Grove Center, a trendy marketplace filled with shops and cafes. You could have an interesting conversation over a cup of catmint tea.

Grove Center backs up to Grove Park, a triangular green space next to the National Parks Office

If you are curious about what else can be found in The Citadel, there's plenty of commerce and residential areas. Many cultural amenities and interesting destinations can be found as well. Let's take a stroll...

Or you could just head to the mall...

Nice zoo and great work with the city.

I always love checking out your journals because you update so frequently that there are always several cool things to see.  I love your last three updates.  The zoo was great.  also the collage of landmarks is pretty cool.  In addition I think the picture with grove park is my favorite, though the national archives is a really cool building.  what is it if you don't mind me asking?

nbvc   Thanks! Glad to have you back.

vortext   I saved this path texture just for this occasion. I like it too. Thanks.

Swordmaster   LOL. People aren't that fun to watch... besides, they have cats to feed and pet. They don't have time to sit and be watched!

Dantes      Glad you like the variety we have in Schulmania.

Kergelen   Thanks. Always glad to have you come by.

Dantes      Thanks! :D

nbvc   Thanks! Glad you like it.

eldaldo   Thanks! The archive is from Xannepan's Bourse de Commerce here on the LEX.

East Tenne: Holy Places

The third arrondissement of the national capital of Oak Ridge is called the Holy Quarter because of its high concentration of large churches. We have seen a few of these already. Now, we will see all of the major churches and ecclesiastic structures in this district. Of course there are plenty of smaller religious structures as well. These featured here are the most noteworthy for the visitor to the capital. So, come along and see the highlights of the Holy Quarter.

The National Cathedral – Promenade North at Myers Park Lawn

Church of St. Felix – Park Avenue at the Bridge of Purrs

Monastic Order of St. Francis – Park Avenue at St. Francis Square, Seaside Park

Church of St. Garfield – Tuna Terrace

Church of St. Gertrude – Via Felidae at Cathedral Woods

Church of St. Heathcliff – Purina Boulevard at Seaside Park

Ecclesiastic Library - Promenade North at Myers Park Lawn

Shrine of the Savory Salmon – Salmon Square

Nice work Bruce. Do I spy the two-spired Antwerp cathedral? I don't think that's still available, is it?

Cheers
