Opaque water?

Anyone know of a mod that gives opaque water?
I've tried a few and they all have a certain amount of transparency that I feel is unrealistic,
and makes things like piers and ships look like they are floating above the water.

Or, if there is no mod with very little or no transparency, then is there some way I can alter a mod to achieve
a nice opaque water?

Currently I'm using Peg's Brigantine water mod, but I'm happy to swap to something else.

with ilives reader, open up your terrain controller.
one of the exemplar files (usually the biggest one) contains modifiers for how the game draws water.
don't know which one from the top of my head cuz it's been years since I last worked on water opacity, but it has something to do with the water's alpha

... really, it is. I swear.

The property is WaterDepthForMaxAlpha (can't remember if it's all one word or not). You can follow the link in my sig to find a tutorial I made on how to do it. I usually set mine between 3 and 10 depending on what kind of area I'm working on. The default varies by terrain mod but was around 35 in most of the older TMs.

Thanks for the quick replies!

I've bookmarked your tutorial noahclem.

I will give it a try as soon as I get some time.
Not used Ilives reader before,
so looks like a bit of learning involved!

Thanks again.

You're welcome

My tutorial is designed for people that don't have experience with Reader so it shouldn't be too bad. Be sure to use the older ~0.9x version rather than v1.4 as the latter is prone to errors and isn't what you'll see in my screenshots.

For an easier method you could also switch to any of Gobias' or Lowkey's terrain mods from the LEX--they all come with more realistic-looking WaterDepthForMaxAlphas out of the box and are beautiful looking mods besides that.

Thanks noahclem for the extra suggestions.

I tried looking at a number of water mods through Ilives reader, but, as far as I could tell, they are all only concerned with colour.
I couldn't see any exemplar settings to modify in the ones I looked at.

So I tried your other idea of trying a terrain mod, and downloaded the c.p. Meadowshire Terrain Mod.
Followed your tutorial and easily found the exemplar and changed the "WaterDepthForMaxAlpha" property to 9 as suggested.
Success! Opaque water!
However, now, around the shoreline, you can see surf, or waves breaking with yet more solid water between the the surf/waves and the shore!
Its like the waves are breaking some metres away from the beach or cliffs on an underwater reef slightly out to sea. Not very realistic.
Not sure whether I preferred the transparent water now!
I'll play around some more and see if there is a depth setting that is a better compromise.
Or is there some way to control the point at which the waves break?
Or am I asking for too much in the way of realism?

Thanks again for the help.

See attachments to this post if you want to play around with ripples and waves. ;)

Thanks vortext for that link.
I don't get any of the jpg's showing, as they are imageshack links,
and probably long gone. Which is a shame.
However, the links to the mods are still there, so maybe I can find
something there that makes things look better.
I'll experiment as soon as i get some time.

Thanks again for the help.
