Hi,

Looking for a few props, mainly a helipad, maxis default is kind of ugly and the on in the AC prop pack doesn't really fit into my lot design. second would be helicopters as props, only ones I know of are Tabi's and those are military. The default maxis copters don't seem to have been made into props that I can find anywhere and the tutorial on turning them into props is still a bit confusing to me ???. Lastly I looked through the forums with no luck but I know there was a tutorial on cutting a lot in half with xpim. If anyone could provide the link it would be appreciated :)

Making automata into props is really very simple. You just need an existing prop exemplar (I've attached a good template for you), all you need to change are two properties here using iLives reader:


  • The Name
    I've filled this in as NAME HERE, but you should give it a proper one to find it in LE.
  • The Resource Key Type 0
    This is the ID of the automata you want to turn into a prop. Find the existing model, look at the ID of the S3D file for it and use that value here. You should only need to change the last part, the Instance ID.

I've created a unique ID for this prop exemplar, but if you use it more than once (copy/paste in reader), just right click the exemplar file and select Generate New Group and Instance and it will provide you with more unique IDs for the other props. Can't help with the helipad though, sorry.

Thank you for your help, again :thumbsup: . If i'm correct the id for the police helicopter is 0x5AD0E817,0xBADB57F1,0x11280000. I got the item to show up in game but it's invisible in the lot editor. Also the helicopter is missing the blades, not sure what I did wrong :angrymore:

The LE will not necessarily show such props, sometimes when you mess with S3D models, it shows a red cube or similar, but if it appears in game, then I wouldn't worry about it. Check again the S3D files for the helicopter, the blades are probably a second model, you need to create a second prop for that and place it accordingly in the LE at the right height/position in relation to the helicopter prop. Perhaps you might be able to determine these from the original Maxis lot containing the helicopter? But, I suspect it will have been added as an effect, not a prop. In which case you might have to do some trial and error to get it right.

That is indeed the problem, there are two S3D files for the copter, shouldn't take me long to get them in the right position. Wish there more more helicopter props other then Tabi's. Thank you again for your help  :thumbsup:

Check out Fanta's mods, although he only made automata replacements for the original helicopters, they look great compared to the originals.

Watch out though, such overrides will have the same model IDs and link to your new props overriding them. But if you were to change the IDs of the Maxis ones (do this in a file containing copies), you could have both sets as props. It's also worth noting, the mods on ST are a fraction of Fanta's work, more in available on SimCity.cn

I think I have just about everything Fanta has made :-[, got most of it from SimCity.cn. I use his reskin for the default maxis helicopter so that turns the prop into his reskin. A large majority of his stuff he made into props too, helicopters wasn't one them sadly.
