Wow, quite a bit has happened here since last time I posted. I really like the update on Bonfire Night. The closest thing I would think to compare it to would be our Independence day, but then we don't have massive bonfires. The overview shot looks really good (expect the part where you sneezed while editing the peninsular) and, given the LE teasers you've been showing, I am really looking forward to the unveiling of it. The colleges are great and the dorms in 65.06 are just perfect in their placement. JBSimio certainly did some nice work with that set. Congratulations on the 3rd OSITM, and here's to more to come.

Thanks for the brief history lesson and congrats on your 3rd OSITM &apls &apls

Piccadilly looks wonderful - all of it. The fact there is so much greenery really adds to it.
I Particularly like your take on the college and you did a marvellous job with Jon's BAT's.
Must be hard to study with all those trains passing by.

Wonder what you have in store for us that you have hidden away under that splodge

Till the next time

That's a really interesting - and fun - tradition, Paul. So glad you told us about it. What the heck, if it's a good excuse for families and friends to gather and enjoy themselves, then more power to Guy and his buddies! And of course, it's only right that it be celebrated in West End.

Later...

Very interesting stuff here, Paul!

I'd heard of Bonfire Night before, but I did not know the particulars or the story behind it. See what you can learn around here?

I'll be looking forward to see what you have next for us, my friend!

Take care,

Dustin

Nice update there of the Bonfire Night 2008, great pictures (RL and the sc4)...

JBSimio

Very interesting update, Paul!     Adding a little culture to our lives now, are you?  I actually had never heard of Bonfire Night before... I came expecting to see a bunch of blurry pennisulas and ended up learning stuff instead.  :D  It looks like a fun time was had by all... except for maybe those made out of stuffing.

See you next time,
JB

Hehe, you guys think like an Aussie, we like to idolise our favourite crims, Ned Kelly for example (everyone heads for google, what is he talking about  ;) ). Always wondered where we got it from  :D

That's a hot update Paul  $%Grinno$% it really sparkles  $%Grinno$%, nobody can Fawkes with you  $%Grinno$%

You know me, just couldn't resist. Like the pic's though. Fireworks are illegal here these days. Previously, Queens birthday was the only legal day we were able to use fireworks but this ended some 25 yrs ago. At least I'm old enough to have enjoyed 16 years of it, sitting in the backyard watching dad run back and forth lighting fuses (and he still has all his fingers  :) )

Enjoyed the update mate, can't wait to see what's next.

Cheers

Paul - you're in the OSITM for the third time.... very well deserved but I had some frightening moments. I have a bad habbit of first looking at my favorite MD's when comming to SC4D, and when clicking the Classics page it was missing! So went straight to check the inactive MD's if it happened to drop in there and not seeing it there either I went with bouncing heart into the closed MD's  section, wondering what happened.... But thank god the Staff decided it's time to reward you a 3rd time, and they were so right to do so.

I like the updates that you did, and am anxiously looking forward to what you made of the peninsula.

See you soon.

David:  Thanks for your comment.

Pat:  You're welcome Pat, all part of the West End experience!

Matt:  Good to see you again Matt.  Thanks for the great comments.  Funnily enough, because our bonfire night is so close to Halloween, the wo seem to be getting increasingly "blurred" where people will hold a combined Halloween and Bonfire Party.  And yes, watch this space for the peninsular as some of your suggestions feature heavily!!

Derry:  Hehehe, yeah that splodge seems to have a few of you intrigued.

Joan:  Glad you liked the story of Guy Fawkes – I really wasn't sure how well known it is outside of the UK.  I have many great memories from my childhood of various firework/bonfire parties.

Dustin:  Well, I'm glad you found it of interest.  I'll have to try and think of what other British/English traditions I can introduce in West End.

Bat:  Cheers Bat.

Jon:  Yeah, the old guy likes Bonfire Night as much as a turkey likes Christmas (yes we eat Turkey at Christmas, not Thanksgiving!!)

Dave:  Well, I guess as much as we like to poke (harmless) fun at each other us Brits and Aussies have a fair amount in common.  I've heard of Ned Kelly (although don't know the whole story) and believe he's a bit of a modern day Robin Hood.  Great tooheys puns by the way!  And yeah, I remember plenty of fireworks that appeared to have gone out only to burst into life as my dad bent down to re-light it – what fun we had!!!!

Sebes:  Hehehe, so West End gave you a scare!  Don't worry, no plans to retire it just yet.  Great to see you again, hope you're keeping well and looking forward to a Rhenen update.

Today we're going to focus on the Central District of Piccadilly.  This is where the bulk of the Comemrcial Buildings are, but there is also quite a few Residential buildings here as well.....

This is the overview of the Central District.

And here you can see that the area has its own problems.  These have been abandoned, mainly due to long commute times.

City Hall is one of the most historic buildings in Piccadilly.

And the W2W or Rowhouse developments in the heart of downtown are one of the things Piccadilly is famous for.

Despite all of the high rise buildings, this neighbourhood still thrives right in the heart of the Central District.  Needless to say this area is pretty expensive to live in.

And the first West End mosaic for some time, shows a cross section of Central Distric life.....

I hope you enjoyed this tour of the Central District.

'til next time.......................... $%Grinno$% $%Grinno$% $%Grinno$%

Enjoy the trip - I always do  ::) :D :D
Its always a pleasure to visit West End ;D
Seems you have a problem with abandonment- I hope you find a solution to those commute times.
Have you tried changing the controller you have in the NAM? Just an idea that may help ;)

Till the next time

Those commute times are a royal pain, and I don't really believe in them. I've seen buildings abandoned when a route query shows the ones left standing have commuters from farther away. The City Hall in 67.03 fits in beautifully, and the neighborhood in 67.05 looks great. The W2W row houses are an unfamiliar sight to me, but we do live in rather different environments, and both have their unique personalities.

The mosaic is very well done and provides a good visual composite of the area, both good and bad. And don't tell anybody I said so, but I'm starting to find GLR kind of interesting along with some of the newer transport innovations. I'm still a child of the south with a deep-seated southern heritage, but I think a few of the larger cities around these parts are using some sort of rail to transport the masses. Need to study that a bit more I guess.

It's always a pleasure to see a West End update, and this one is no exception. Good job!

That's a really good update, looking forward to update 68!
Your city is looking fantastic!

Nice update of the Central District. Sorry to see the dilapidation of the towers there. Hard to imagine the commute could be that bad, especially seeing the GLR station and that grand railroad terminal right there... bunch of lazy little... anyway, the city hall in the area looks nice and tv station is a nice touch. In regard to 67.04, how long did it take you to get all of those buildings to grow like that (and not just the main road of rowhouse, all the buildings seem to match their neighbors in some way). The homes in 67.05 are a great touch and it's nice to see a little low density remain in the area. The mosaic is quite well done too, and is that a tourist trap I see there? Well no wonder the buildings are abandoned, heh heh. I do have one question though, in 67.03, I thought the city hall was the nice beige building on the corner, but in the first bit of the mosaic, on the right, I see what looks like the 'game' city hall. Did I miss something in 67.03, or is that representative of something different in the mosaic. Great work on this Paul, and I hope Bonfire night was fun.

Wow, Paul!

Such wonderful work you show us, with every update!

You're doing some great stuff here with your time in OSITM, my friend! Keep it up!

Great stuff Paul.

I have to agree with Matt, you have more patience than me, waiting to get those lots to grow, whether it's in .04 or .05 .Well done

Don't you just hate "Deserted because of Commute Time". I'd blame the current economic woes  ;)

Like the mosaic, good to see the signature GLR and the parks/gardens along the main avenue look great.

Another superb update (but what else would we expect  &apls )

Dave

JBSimio

Yet another fine update, Paul!   &apls  I've been looking at the pictures off and on for a couple days now, but I just can't come up with any specific comments like I normally do.  Everything fits and blends together so well that it's hard to pick out any one thing to mention.  To me, this usually indicates a very well done area, so I guess that's what it is!   :D  The mosiac came out really well, and I like the monorail station you've used.

See you next time,
Jon
