Seeing the new amazing map of the Chamonix Mont Blanc area (look here) I decided to present some pictures from this beautiful place.

Chamonix - centre

A trip to Aiguille du Midi:
Cable car

On the top

...And the way down to Mer de Glace (the Sea of Ice)

Looking back to the top from bigger distance - the weather is better now

A trip to the lower end of Mer de Glace (there is a very nice GLR line to this place  ;D, of course it is a mountain version of GLR)

A cable car

A view on Chamonix

A beautiful mountain - Aiguille du Dru

The west face - there is one of the most challenging climbing routes in Alps here

...And at the end something different: There is an ice grotto at the end of the glacier. It is damaged every year because of the glacier movement, but it is renovated every year. Some artists make ice sculptures in it. After visiting this grotto I made this picture (it is not photoshopped at all  ;D)

After making this photo I had this association:

Many people says when somebody is dying, he/she goes through the tunnel and then see the light. This phenomena is investigated by some people. Tibetan lamas know much more about it, hey say it look different and is much more complicated, but it is completely natural, nothing mysterious.
It is not important if you believe it or not, simply imagine such situation:
The life ends and a man goes to the another side. He goes outside from the tunnel and he is seeing something. And what is he doing? Look again at the picture, look at his hands - they are raised.
He is making pictures!  :D

Ennedi,

Amazing photographs. Just amazing. We don't see anything like that here in Canada. I would especially like to ride the cable car, it looks like it gains tons of elevation quickly.

Were you there on holidays, or do you live there currently?

Once again, awesome pictures!

Ennedi, fantastic pictures.  They are so beautiful.  I would love to go on those cable cars up the mountain and it looks like there is some really good skiing to be had here.   ;)

Yet once again Ennedi shows some marvellous pictures. They just makes me look forward for my skiing holiday in Val d'Isere even more.

I just checked out info on both mountains, Chamonix Mont Blanc and Val d'Isere.  NOT fair, I have no mountains like that near where I live.  I need to drive to Vermont (I live in Toronto, Ontario) to get anything worth while to ski on.  I am very jealous of you both.  Those ski facilities look awesome.  I need to do more traveling when my kids get older.  I love to ski, if not for this love, there's no need for winter. lol.

Well Rooker, try check out where I live !!!
In Denmark. Its like allmost 1600 km / 1000 miles away.

I would love to go to Canada for skiing, but it has to wait a couple of years.

We don't see anything like that here in Canada.

And I would love to see Canada - lakes, forests, far North... And you have also great mountains - Mt Farnham is wonderful!
(It's also for Robin - you live in a beautiful country, don't worry about distance to the skiing area - longer trip, greater pleasure!

QuoteI would especially like to ride the cable car, it looks like it gains tons of elevation quickly.

It started from 1039 m (3300 feet) in Chamonix, middle station on Plan de l'Aiguille 2317 m, and the second on 3777 m (12600 feet), the peak has 3842 m. The first part - about 7 m/sec, time 8-10 mins, The second part - 12,5 m/sec, 8-10 mins. The second part has about 4 kilometers and only two spans - one of the longest (or the longest) span in the world, I don't remember exactly. Total elevation difference - 2738 meters.

QuoteWere you there on holidays, or do you live there currently?

Unfortunately I were there only on holidays - but we also have in Poland beautiful mountains, I will show them in future  :)

And Vester, I want to see Denmark too, my wife's uncle lives in Aarhus from many, many years and he told us a lot about it   :)

These photos below are not made by me - I have more, but i must scan them (I made them by a traditional camera)

Enjoy!

Nice pictures Ennedi. This is an amazing area - even better with some more snow! You cannot beat sitting on a chalet balcony with a glass of wine watching the sun setting over Mont Blanc.
