This look back at the history of our proud little burg is brought to you by The Marteenyville Telegraph Co. and its Archives Dept., who brought us these fine photos.

This shot from the 25th anniversary of the founding of Marteenyville. Not visible in photo: Man with sparkler eating ice cream.

The town has always been proud of its little pier, Earl Tapp Marina. It is named for a WWII hero of the Pacific campaign, and proud Eagle Scout.

The intersection of Sticks Road and Boondocks Drive.

Col. Kurtz Army Base, with on-base and off-base housing.

Once the Valerie River was bridged, the surrounding plains were open to agriculture

The Kiefer family farm, in the area called the Southerlands. The area is now known as the Kiefer Southerlands.

Next time: A mayor with a plan hits town, and change comes fast!

Mods: If the images are too large, please let me know and I'll fix it, or feel free to shrink them if necessary.

The Marteenyville Telegraph Co brings you the next installment of Early Marteenyville Memories

A new mayor came to town with big plans. Johnny Cicero was elected and wasted no time. With the passage of measure H7, he had unlimited zoning muscle and flexed it often.

He started with road building, and a high capacity water pump. Agriculture took off.

The availability of water increased demand for land in the Kiefer Southerlands.

Despite lightning growth, little Marteenyville stayed close to its roots as a farming mecca.

Big playspots like River Beach attracted much development.

The residential areas sprawled into the farmland quickly.

Next Time: A newspaper, and a new phase of the plan...

New flag design is approved by the mayor!

The new flag carries the city's new ad slogan, and was designed by the 6th graders at William Roemer Middle School.

                                                     The Riverport Register

Commensurate with the rebirth of Marteenyville as Riverport, according to the plan rammrodded through the city council by Mayor Jack Legg...The Riverport Register publishes its Inaugural Issue, starting right now!

It was the opinion of the Mayor that Marteenyville wasn't a name fit for " ...The monster this city will become!", and that Riverport adequately reflected the character of the city's riverfront expanses and growing status as a destination port for traffic of all kinds.

"We have to keep our high-tech industry and it's proud union thugs, um, er...workers humming.", and promised needed seaport upgrades in later phases of his plan.

Some people needed a plain-language warning...

New Symphony Space Debuts With Pop-Tart Painting, Popular Design

The newly-formed Riverport Symphony Orchestra debuted in its new outdoor theater, performing Mussorgsky's Pictures At An Exhibition as its signature piece. Later at a benefit auction for the Symphony, a painting by pop sensation Christina Aquavelva sold for $8.64, some pocket lint, and a stick of Wiggly's gum.

The painting, entitled "Wow The Symphony People Look Like Ants From Up Here!"

Next Time: Farmers complain, and a new Mayor's megalomania...

Hardly worth 50ยข !      The Riverport Register          All the news that's print to fit!

New Stadium Opens, Walk Of Heroes A Hit

The new Foss Gly Memorial Stadium opened yesterday to much fanfare and hype.
The new arena also had an adjacent statue walk entitled 'Walk Of Heroes' featuring notable football names of the past like Carzo Butera and Yves Massarde. The crowd had plenty to look at, and with their free popcorn they pointed and took pictures. Ok, they didn't take pictures with their popcorn... you know what we mean. Smartass.
The new beach volleyball park is a unique part of the park system.

Mayor Goes Big, Grandiose Grandeur And Gilding Going On

As can be seen in many of these pictures, there is a lot of large building and grand planning coming out of Hizzoner's office lately. And the space that office occupies ain't too shabby either...

Mayor unveils gigantic new statue![/u][/b]

Flush with success and on a historic roll, Hizzoner has commissioned a statue of himself! Many people surveyed expressed shock at the mayor's perceived arrogance, and the word 'megalomania' has been overheard in hushed tones at many a dinner party lately.

The statue with tacky grandiose plaza

Army Base Redevelopment Complete

The last remnants of Col. Kurtz Army Base were moved to new site outside of town, and the Mayor quickly approved a much-needed redevelopment plan.

The quick development of the old base site echoes a theme familiar to Riverport history

The Fallen Ones monument on the old site.

Last Farms Leaving Town!

In the midst of a development storm, the farmers shake an angry fist at Hizzoner Jack Legg.

Their place was quickly claimed.

This update brought to you by the City Of Riverport...

We stay up late around here!

The Riverport Tourism Office...Making our town visible!

Tall Towers Take Over Town

The town's obsession with growth in a vertical direction has expanded to the outlying neighborhoods, which are now seeing the highest-altitude living spaces in the city's history.

A Fast Food Invasion, Suspicions Voiced

A great many fast food restaurants have opened in our town lately, leading some to question whether large chains have paid kickbacks in order to ease the permit process. That process is administrated by Hizzoner alone, and he has refused to comment about possible lax oversight. Local nanny-types are outraged at the 'easy availability of fat and calories'.

Riverpoint has gained a reputation for its restaurant selection...

...but not for restaurants with a good reputation.

Across from Big Ball Center, late-night drunk food abounds.

Mayor To Annex Road's End, Binary Lakes
Local enviromentalists are outraged, nothing new there. The End Of The World this time is Hizzoner's plan to annex the pristine Road's End area and the much-beloved Binary Lakes Wilderness.

Dumb game animals roam aimlessly

Road's End was named appropriately..but no more!

In the end, the Mayor won out, and development swept over another part of the area.

And a free gift for SC4D viewers only...The Mayor's newest success, Riverport Quasi-National Exposition Center!
Many employees live right in the neighborhood, lowering commute times for an already well-connected town.

Kcrimsonsim, in this picture your cars drive on the right side of the road, and your GLR crossing is also for right hand driving vehicles. However at intersections, your sorting lanes are for left hand driving....

Quote

On other pictures the intersections are correct for righthand driving.

For the rest: I like your cityplanning. The downtown area and the river docks look awesome!
