I'm having an unusual problem.. I don't know if it's obvious or not.

As you can see, the render in the BAT looks fine, but the LE looks bad, and I've tried it in game too - it looks just like the LE.  Just for kicks, I tried resizing the LODs, (I have no idea what i'm doing actually) which didn't do anything

Any suggestions?
I have returned!

i would try to re-render..usually if i have problems like that it's because i was doing something else during the render; and the model would come out weird for some reason...i don't know if other programs affect a render but it did for me it seems...

Frigid

Ok, I rendered it high quality, nothing in the background, and I still have the same problem.  I'm going to try remaking the roofs, I think it's something about how I made them which is muddling up my model

I'll post back.. tomorrow
I have returned!

Alfred.Jones

It could be because you have another polygon underneath the roof that is not textures, and it is coming through the textured roof polygon...

Make sure that isnt the case, if it is, delete the underneath polygon or texture it the same as the roof ;)

Hope that helps ;D

Hi Frigid, this is one of the many 'lesser' known problems and has neither to do with the Bat or the LE, but your graphics card.

The BAT will also appear that way in game, but possibly not quite so pronounced.

The reason for it has to do with how different programs display pixels per cm. The Bat has a higher display  than Sim City and also has a higher display than the Lot Editor. The texture you have is fairly busy: your graphics card is simply not showing it properly in the lot editor. It happens with both complicated, busy textures as well as those textures with a gradient.

Now, were this model to be on someone else's computer with a different graphics card, they would not see what you see.

I've the same problem: you can either update (tricky - SC4 can be temperamental with graphics settings  :'( ) or learn (as I do) to just ignore it.

Frigid

Wow thanks, I didn't know this problem existed.  I'm going to test it on another computer anyways, just in case.

Thanks alot !
I have returned!

Before all,
Please let me use this thread of you Frigid. ;)

============================================

I have one problem about RENDERING too.

I making a BAT with "B.A.T" on "G-MAX" (from "Turbo Squid")
Please look this pic.

LEFT Model ---- This is the Model at "Preview" in G-MAX.
RIGHT Model ---- This is the Model that "Exported" to FSH_file.(on "ilive reader")

Please look at the part of the handrail on most.
You will be able to see the difference of the thickness of the handrail.
The phenomenon is shown in the part that there is nothing objects in the background.
I saw some similar same problems in my some works.

I was try a EXPORT that cheged a "Export Quollity" , did "Re-fit LODs" and reinstalling the BAT(G-MAX) too.
but I can not solve this problem. And, the cause is not understood.  ()sad()

Give me your good idea or helps please. &mmm

If you need this G-MAX data (.gmax). You can get it from HERE.

Thank you for read my message and your helps too. ;)

I think the reason for this difference between preview and render is the same as Mattb already explained in his post futher up this page.
Mostly the limit for details to show up in Simcity is 20 cm anything smaller and there is a chance you will not see it in game. If you use contrasting colors smaller details are possible but might give unexpected results like the one you are showing in your pictures.
I would think there is nothing wrong with your BAT.

Oh! I see.
I understand a cause this problem well.

I was very relieved to know this.

Thank you for your clear answer a quickly kwakelaar ;)
and I'm sorry that the same answer as you is made to be done. :-[
I wish to express my gratitude.

i think in case of Frigid one more check - in game  or in iLive reader should be done to see how that problem shows up there.
Deterioration of image quality may be due to the fact that in bat preview you see full color uncompressed TGA (most probably) or some other high bandwidth format with Alpha channel in it. Unfortunately this is to fat of a piece for game or actually computer to stomach in numbers. So sliced graphics are compressed and, I believe also pixel color bit depth is reduced. On smooth gradients this may lead to banding. "busy" textures should actually fair better, as this "business" will hide compression artifacts. And I very much doubt that slices get resized as to the relation what they are rendered/cut by BAT. Why on earth?

In case of MAS71 this looks like different Anti-Aliasing has been used (is used) for preview and export. to be precise, preview image look anti-aliased, while exported one looks like it hasn't been utilized - which normally lead that small elements (slipping under firm 1 pixel display size) get either enlarged to take the entire pixel or disappear all together - sometimes both phenomenon could be seen on say diagonal line.
Actually pictures supplied are VERY clear on that.
Take also look not only on horizontal(diagonal) railing but at the vertical posts - see how they thickness varies.

Now, without the unuseful comments, this is what I call a useful post. -jeronij-

Thank you for a further opinion Simfox

Ok, I'll present a small report of this problem.

I having a further doubt with this problem when look this pic. ()what()

We able to see thickness handrail with Export problem ( in my LOT made by BAT)
and very thin handrail in "MAXIS Default LOT" (Default I$d LOT)

The minimum size that can be displayed by BAT be how many? ()what()
Now, I tested about it again.

I did Expot it two mode  "Medium"(left) and "High"(right).
Can you see a difference result?
Do it become a little reference when you do modeling?

I love exact modeling.
Therefore, I want to stick to this problem.

However,
I could test it with only "BATool", I don't know whether the same result comes out as for "3DS MAX" either.
(I don't have "3DS Max". I can't buy it cause that price is too much for me!! &cry2)

Thank you for read my post again.

jeronij

MAS71, the BAT render wont allow you to fix that. You cant change the render settings. As far as I know.
The 3DStudio Max allows you to configure the render tools much more powerfully, and you could fix that. Maybe you can have access to some educational version ?¿.

@Jeronij
Oh,I see.
Is this a limit of a function (performance) of "B.A.T" isn't? &mmm

If "3DSmax" is used, can this problem be evaded?
I should consider the purchase of "3DSmax".

hummm. I should work by the twice the current state  :-[

Thank you Jeronij ;)

derek_pearce

okay in the render of one of my models the render is fine but in the lot editor part of the bat looks missing is that a problem to me

jeronij

derek, yours sounds like a LOD problem.
Try refitting your LODs and rendering the model again.

If this does not solve your problem, read (again) the basic BAT tutorial here:

Specially check the :

press the button that says ¨Refit LODs¨...under the parameters roll-out
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it
