Baconrocky:  I'm not really sure just yet.  I've considered both,  but haven't tried fitting anything in yet.  I want to have a minimum impact on the facade itself, so I guess it will be whatever accomplishes that goal.  Thanks!

Nofunk:  I do believe you're right.  I've begun to treat it that way too.  So for now, I'll concentrate on the downtown version and come back to the larger base later.  Thanks!

Zaphod:  A nursing home?  That's unfortunate!  Thank you!

So... as this has turned into two different hotels now, I'm going to stick with the smaller base until that is finished and then come back to the larger base later.  With that in mind, I reworked the base a little to fit it onto 5 tiles instead of 6 (sorry to anyone I "lied" to earlier) and added in most of the trim work and details that I wanted to add.  Then I started texturing.  Keep in mind, many of these textures are still very (in some cases VERY) rough.  I'm mostly still testing things... color combinations, sizing, etc etc.  The roof still needs a lot of work...  the brick isn't what I intended, but I kind of like it... the base is pretty close... you get the idea.  Anyway... here's  some pictures:

Suggestions always welcome... just remember this is the very first texture preview.  ;)

Jon LoL and leave it up to me to say it too.... OK back to this newest pics wow!!!  I agree with you about the bricks it does look good and i think you should really think about keeping it the way it is.... The roof green could be a tad bit darker green sorta like this PD in Riverside IL, i used to go past this station all the time on my way to my grandpas house....

JB you really out did yourself this time.

Jon,

This hotel is amazing. I'm looking forward to it meeting a lot and growing in a city or two of mine.

Cheers,
Kevin

Fledgeling

Looks phenomenal. &apls I admit I prefer the smaller base myself.  &mmm

Can I give a suggestion? Its on lighting. You know how most hotels always keep their hallway and lobby  lights on at all hours of the night? You should do that, for realism. The middle windows on the side, and wherever you think your hallways would be... should all be lit. Every floor. Plus  the lobby... kind of understand what im' talking about? I think it would be realistic.

threestooges

I like it. It fits within the height limits of brick buildings, so the texture seems fine. The only suggestion I have would be for the roof. I think that it should have just a touch more blue to it to bring out the oxidized copper look. Splendid job.

cammo2003

I think the brick texture's fine, the only thing lacking really is a slight gradient to make it fit in properly. Otherwise, that brick colour will work well in-game.

I will second what threestooges said about the roof though.

The textures look great JB. even if they are test textures only, I like the way this one is going

I espescialy like the details and sculpted reliefs over the windows of the plinth.

Pat:  Thanks!  Maybe it's just the picture, but the roof you showed looks more like slate to me.  I really like that building though!  The roof texture will definitely change either way.

Bluebeard:  Thank you!  I was kind of thinking the same thing.  I really need to stop raising the bar on myself like this!  :D

Kevin:  Thanks!  The lot for this version should be very easy actually.  The second version may be a different story... but we're not there yet anyway so why am I even talking about it?

Fledgeling:  Thank you!  And of course you can make a suggestion... that's the whole point of this thread!  I will certainly take stairwells and hallways into account when I start lighting.  I'm dreading that process already...

Matt:  Thanks!  Yes, the roof is really just a texture I slapped on for now to see what needed to be done.  It will change along with the dormers.

Cammo:  Thank you!  You're right... I haven't added the gradient yet either.

Figui:  Thanks!

Strech:  Thank you!  Does the swan show up over the side door alright?

Thank you for all the feedback everyone... I really do appreciate it.  In this case it was all stuff I knew, but it still helps to know that there aren't other things that I hadn't seen myself.  On a personal note, I also was just looking at the LEX to see how the new releases are doing and I was suprised to see that I'm creeping extremely close to 10,000 downloads already.  It's always great to be here, but that little "extra" that I saw was quite flattering... what an honor!  So I just want to say thank you to everyone that enjoys these so much!

No JB,

Its us who should thank you man! ;)
I mean it is you who give us reason to download your great stuff, time and time again. &apls

When you reach the 10000 mark The Stroponian Empire will host a party in the Swan Majestic for you

The swan is visible, but it could use a bit more contrast. For I fear its details could get lost ingame.

JosefBrisko:  Thanks!  Nice to see you again, my friend!

Strech:  Woohoo!  I build a brand new hotel and already you want to trash it with a giant rockstar party!  :D  I adjusted the textures a little bit, but I still want the swan to be fairly subtle.  Hopefully this helps a little though.

Alright... texture preview number two.  I added a gradient to the brick, darkened the base slightly, redid pretty much the whole roof, and tinkered with the windows a little more.  Many of the differences are honestly rather subtle, but I believe they all helped.  All in all, I think things are good now.

Lighting comes next, unless there's something I completely screwed up or missed!

JB

*EDIT:  Ignore the sign for now... it's really different already!   ::)  :D  Actually... it looks more like this:

:o

EH you startled me with that flashy signage! I think the improved one is perfect, because it fits the old downtown theme much better. I have nothing more to add, its coming together nicely!

ardecila

Okay, a couple of last-minute things.  First, if you want to do large signage, a better route would be to put the signage along the roofline, as shown below.  Second, a row of flags jutting out diagonally-upwards from the entrance would give a real "hotel" feel.

EDGE4194

Jon- it's looking fantastic, but I can't help but feel there should be some sort of canopy or overhang on the front entrance (imho). This will look great in downtown areas.

threestooges

I like the sign in its newer (slightly understated) form. I also agree with ardecila about the flags. If you can make that look good it would really bring the entrance alive.

Sim Shady

I just crapped myself!   :o  The swan majestic looks amazing! i mean those textures are just dead on.  congratz  &apls &apls &apls

baconrocky

If you are going to add Flags, can you make them from multi-countries (I don't think thats a word) anyways, then it can blend it to any sort of City, alittle easier :)

Strechnitz

Great!

This little change on the base made the swans way more visible :) I like the way the textures turned out as wel as the edited sign. imho this baby is ready for lotting although you could indeed add some flaggs and a roof sign.

if you do add flags perhaps chain/logo flags would be nicer than i.e. US ones. so that the hotel can find its way in other MD's more easily. just a thought ::)
