I say yes! to the sign, but eh... to the awnings.  ;)

Fledgeling:  No... that's not what I meant.  I was just explaining how I did it for anyone who might be interested.  ;)  I looked and pointed at all sorts of people this weekend and didn't get shot... maybe I was just lucky?  :D

Sim Shady:  I think you're right... almost!

Pat:  Thanks for the feedback.  I tend to agree with you on the awnings actually.

Matt:  Thank you also for the input.  You never fail to provide some "food for thought."

Mauricio:  Thanks!  The awnings are no longer with us.

John:  Thank you!  I'm so happy with the lighting on this one.

JosefBrisko:  I love crazy good work!  One might even call it Sofa King great... (but I wouldn't do that because that would be on the edge of decency a little bit, and I work with kids after all)

Nofunk:  Thank you for the thoughts!

I really do appreciate all the input and feedback.  I kind of got the feeling that at this point, I'm really just chasing my own tail on this thing.  So I ended up just going back to what I had before the last picture.  The new sign was a tight fit at best and any further adjustments meant moving and changing a lot of different things.  And I wasn't real thrilled with the awnings anyway.  So it was back to the clean, albeit somewhat plain, look to the main entry.

It took about 6 hours to render this evening and then I discovered a couple surprises when I ran a test lot through the game.  The first thing is really annoying, but I'll get over it.  I have been misquoting the size of this building the entire time.  It's actually 82 and not 80 meters wide.  Big deal, right?  Well, kind of... because it doesn't really fit on five tiles that way.  I have to have six tiles wide after all.  All this really means is that it has a little extra room on either side, so it's nothing I'm going to mess with.  The second thing is a small light leak that didn't show up in the preview renders for some reason.  I need to go back and fix that and then render again... maybe overnight tomorrow.

No cool pictures this time, although I've got about three different buildings I'm tinkering with at the moment.  Something will probably be ready enough to show tomorrow.  Have a great night!

I thought it was time for a couple SmalltownUSA buildings again.  Here's a sneak peek at one I started.  I'm calling it Tiffany's Tea Shop.  Still a fair bit to do yet... but you get the general idea I think.

This will be a 2x2 corner building.  That's about all there is to say about it so far!   :D

Alright a new project.  And great looking one at that.  This looks very good so far.  I can't wait to see what brick textures you are going to use.

Robin:  Thanks!  How do you feel about these bricks?  :D

Fantnet:  All at once?  I thought about it, but decided most people wouldn't appreciate a 70MB download!  :D  No... various things are in different stages at the moment.  Some are just plain not even in my hands right now.  All the apartment buildings are getting foundations made by someone else... the grain elevator is getting lotted by someone else... the hotel is going to be rendered when I go to bed... and so on.  I just figured why stop and wait when I can do something else?

Figui:  Thank you!

Here's another quick look at Tiffany's.  It's mostly done really.

I have a couple final details to add to the dormers... once I figure out what they'll be!  I also need to brighten up the windows and a couple other things and do the lighting.  Any other thoughts?

Jon- I am so excited! ST is my favorite building series. It looks great- i love the corner turret thingy and the blue trim.
I hope there are more to come....  &hlp

threestooges

Well, I recall some interesting experiences with this in the past, but the short side of the building has a bit of a gap between the windows that's just calling out for something...ivy perhaps (though not something really seen too often on buildings like these); or something to fit in there... with the density of the windows and other features of the building, it just seems to be missing something. I'm sure it'll turn out well whatever happens with it.

 It looks great. As all the town i have ever really been near are small towns... this will fit great in my style. But i have a question. Why are the purple beams the same color as the base on wich they sit? They are very well done and detailed, but i have to really look to see that. Perhaps a different shade to stand out... or another color entirely would make the pop?

simdad1957

I'm really excited to see an expansion to the small town series. It suits my building style perfectly and between you and Spa, there is an excellent variety of buildings becoming available for use.

I don't know if you recall, but at some point about six months ago I suggested that a physician's office or a pharmacy would make an excellent addition to the small town series. There really isn't a lot of variety to the "clinics" available on the STEX or the BSC exchange. It would actually be interesting to make a pharmacy, but mod it as a clinic (for the doctor's offices on the second floor). What do you think? ()what()
Go Sens!!

Sim Shady

When i saw your building, like threestooges my thoughts immediately went to ivy or something of the sort to fill the gap on the side walls.  Doesnt seem to fit in there, but the wall still feels lacking.

other than that... :satisfied: very nice!

Pat

Hey Jon Tiffany's is looking real sweeeeeeeet.... So does this derive from Breakfast at Tiffany's Song [linkie] by a chance? I'm thinking about the song from 1995 and not the movie from 1960'ish..... Im excited to see anther Small Town building coming wooooooohooooooo.....

Shadow Assassin

Yeah, I agree with Pat... Breakfast at Tiffany's sounds familiar. As soon as I saw this BAT, I was thinking 'Breakfast at Tiffany's?'

It looks good, though. :P I'll definitely find a place for it. You know, we need diagonal SmallTown stuff, now that I think of it. :P

Edge:  Thank you!  Please calm down before you hurt yourself though.  :D

Matt:  Thanks!  I actually left that space on purpose to reflect the possible fireplaces from the chimney.  Of course, I didn't line the chimney up quite right either.  ::)  That's also the wall that would get covered up in most cases as well.  I'll nudge some things around and see if it can be a little less noticable.

Fledgeling:  Thank you!  I'm still tinkering with the exact shade of blue, but it's meant to be a one tone type of thing.  It's not all that uncommon for all the wood detailing to be painted the same color like that.  I'd show some examples, but I'm at work... I'll try to remember when I get home.

Simdad:  Thanks!  I do remember the clinic discussion actually.  It could easily be done.  It would really be a matter of just picking a building to do it with since there isn't really anything specific about a doctor's office.  They generally just move into whatever building is handy at the time I think.  Maybe one of the next couple will be it.

Sim Shady:  Thank you!  Since I answered the gap in the wall question, I'll just continue...  ;)

Pat:  Thanks!  You crack me up!  You can't talk about the song and not the movie... the song is about the movie!  It's also quite possibly the weakest argument for staying with someone I've ever heard.  "Remember we saw that one movie that we both kind of liked?  See?  We do have something in common... we can't break up now!"  :D

SA:  Thanks!  Diagonals you say?  I was waiting for Pekko to perfect his methods... and then I dropped off the face of the earth for a while when he did.  One of these days, I'll study up and then make a few.

Thanks for all the comments!  More to come later,
JB

Update time!  First the bad news... I need to render the hotel again.  A bunch of textures randomly dropped off for no apparent reason.  It's nothing that really needs to be "fixed," it just means I have to do it over.  Needless to say, I have nothing to show with the hotel at this point.

Since I didn't have a lot to build, I'm fairly sure I finished Tiffany's Tea Shop.  I added some trim for the dormers, adjusted a few textures and colors, made the blank spot on the wall a little more tolerable, and then lit it up.  Unless there are any real show stoppers, I'm ready to hit the export button for this one.

I'll give y'all some time to scream "WAIT!!!"... in the meantime, I may be back with the next one later.  Hasta something or other!
