No, JB's going to California he just doesn't know exactly where in CA.

TopCliff:  Thanks!  Fresno and Bakersfield were both on the list, so you may not be far off. ;)

John:  Thank you!  I've toned down the brick on the roof somewhat.  It's starting to feel like the last minute already given the length of this move... but who knows?

ACE:  I shortened the stairwells a bit, but I'd rather not "bury" them if I can avoid it.  I've seen it too, but I don't have much room up there with the level below.  Thanks!

Hydra:  Thank you!

Dustin:  Thanks!

Pat:  Thank you!   :D

Sim Shady:  Thanks!  I pity anyone who decides they want to start reading this thread from scratch now...  :D

Bat:  Thank you!

Duane:  Thank you!

Pat Riot:  I wouldn't put it past him somethimes...  ::)  Thanks!  (And yes... I do love them)

Dragonshardz:  And the way it's snowing out right now, I can't wait either! ;)

Well yesterday's work day completely sucked... but we'll just ignore that.  It is work after all and I couldn't find anything in the handbook that said it was going to be fun all the time.  So let's just move on, shall we?  I started lighting this last night.  I made a pretty good dent in what needed to be done, but I haven't finished it yet.  Unfortunately, I sprung a couple leaks somewhere along the line that I need to track down and fix.  For some reason there is light coming up through the roof on some edges... and a couple shops are spilling over into the ones next door.  Hopefully niether one will be to hard to fix, but the previews are starting to take quite a while to generate... so we'll see.  I have a pretty long day today, so I may not get back to this again until tomorrow.

Until next time...
JB

Hey Jon...sorry bout the work day yesterday...but like I say about my part time job.....'they know how I am, and they still want me to sign in....so it's all their fault anyway'   Doesn't really help much except when I say it to a customer!   Hang in there......Fresno?   Ohhh.... a hint...go for Vladivostok   :D  Acutally lived near there..not bad...most of Calif can be pretty nice.....later guy.
Sometimes I go into my own little world....but it's ok, they know me there.

Pat

Sorry to hear about your work troubles, my friend, and also the bumps you've encountered with the lighting, too. I hope that it's not to hard to straighten out!

Work, I can't help with, but light spilling ... make sure all your wall, and ceiling joins overlap, just slightly.

Duane:  I'm not sure why they still let me in either, but they do!  :D  Vladi-what?  ???

Pat:  No words yet (part of what made the day sucked)... but obladi, odlada, life goes on bra la la... you get the idea...  :D

Dustin:  Thanks!  I think I got most of it worked out...

Derry:  Mmmm... cuppa... thank you!

RebaLynn:  They all do... many of them multiple times actually.  Unfortunately, it seems that once you get way up in the number of lights (and I'm around 400 or so with this one), they start to have a cumulative effect.  It's not supposed to happen with "cast shadows" and walls and ceilings and such things, but time has taught me that it does.  Once that happens, the overlap isn't always enough.  (This also seems to happen with really high intensity settings by the way)

OK... I almost finished the lighting.  There are a couple things that are not quite right yet... but given how long it takes to generate these previews now, these are the pictures you're getting!  :D  First the pictures, then I'll describe what will change.

Things that will be fixed (so you can save your fingers some typing)...  The light bouncing off the interior corners of the lightwell.  This is just overspill that needs to be toned down.  The skylight will be gone.  It sticks out even more now that it's lit and I don't like it.  (This will also get rid of the horrendous glare near the roof in that area too, so don't worry about that)  Finally, the shops look a bit too empty when lit, so I'll find a way to fix that.  Other than those things  ;) is there anything else I seem to be missing?

That's about it for now...

Other than the bright strip of light behind the skylight (which you mentioned already) I actually like the skylight. But if you think it needs to go, so be it.

It has been a while since I last posted here, but you have certainly been busy in that time. I wasn't sure about the choice of brick/stone color, but it really works on this building. The storefronts are nice but as you noted, they do look a bit bare at night (shouldn't be too bad to fix though for someone of your talent). The clock on that sign on the corner is a nice touch and overall the building looks very clean. It may just be that I haven't looked at it long enough, but I don't notice any major light leaks (or any other issues at all). Well done on this. Next up, how have you been? I had a trial brief due for class on Wednesday so I haven't been able to keep in touch as much as would be nice. Any further news on the CA position? I'll keep an eye out for new updates around here (Spring Break just started for our school so I get the week to relax (aka: catch up on everything that's been sitting in the background)). Take it easy.

Expertly done, I cannot think of anything that you could do to improve at this point besides what you already mentioned.    ()stsfd()

That is a gorgeous result Jon

Apart from what you want to change I would not change a single thing!

About the only suggestion I might make is that the main entrance could use a bit of oomph in temrs of lighting (but having toyed with the BAT it's likely because of deficiencies in said tool that you've not done so). In fact much of the ground floor could use it. That's about it, though. Even without it'll probably be fine.

I like that this has a slightly dirty (but still well maintained) look to it. Even well maintained buildings of this age look slightly dusty and you've conveyed that perfectly. There's a really fine line between conveying age appropriately and basically trashing a building, and I think you've managed to walk it successfully.

lighting is very realistic! you even have the time lol. Cant wait till this beauty is done  &apls

Jon- wow  &apls ! My eye immediately went to the sign on the corner- nice touch. The lighting is awesome. Fantastic job

N1:  Thank you!

RebaLynn:  I got rid of the skylight.  I was never really sure about it, and the lighting (even fixed) didn't do anything that screamed "Keep me!" so off it came...

Mauricio:  Thanks!

Matt:  The brick colors are a bit different from shades I usually use, but I like the end result.  The light leaks got fixed before I posted the pictures... you would have definitely seen them if I had let you. ;)  Sounds like you're about due for a break and I hope you enjoy it!  Things here are moving along, but slowly... still no definitive news yet, which is getting a bit frustrating at best.

Pat:  Thanks!  Wow... 1500 posts!  Thank you to everyone!!!  &dance

Fledgeling:  Thank you!

Strech:  Thanks!

Cammo:  Thank you!  I added some exterior lights around the base... hopefully that helps because frankly I've run out of other ideas otherwise.  :D  I'm getting better and walking that tightrope between "aged" and just "dirty"... it's probably why some of my past buildings fit so well in many people's ghetto shots even though I didn't intend them to be.  :D

Pat Riot:  Thanks!  Yes... it's always 6:43 apparently...

Edge:  Thank you!

Well, I made what I hope are the final tweaks.  I got rid of the skylight... toned down a few other lights in the back including the loading area... added a little more life to the shop floors... and added some exterior lights around the base.  I think this should wrap things up for good this time.  Here are some updated shots, just because I'd hate to leave the former ones as the final look!  ::)

Don't ask me what's next... I have a few buildings in mind, but I'm still trying to decide which one it will be.  Until then...

JB
