whooo lets partay!!! Welcome back  ;D

cammo2003

Yeah, we definitely need some of this stuff. There aren't many of this "suburban walk up" kind of thing.

This one looks very housing commish (I've seen homes in a similar style out in some nearby suburbs and they're pretty much all public housing places. You hit the nail on the head with the one having the green trim and white panelling (I've seen this EXACT colour scheme used on said housing commission places, in fact, these look so close in style (though not actual form) to the actual buildings it's not funny.

In the same way, as others have said, they could easily pass as a cheap motel, student housing... Don't forget the requisite half-broken Hills Hoist (clothes line, which are actually very common here in Australia, even in middle class homes) in the backyards...

I've also seen similar buildings in larger campgrounds originating from that period (there's a kinda local one which doesn't have many of them left due to a bushfire going through there, it's now very modern and sleek for the most part).  Just a thought. ;)

Edge:  Thank you!  I'm glad they will be useful.

Threestooges:  Thanks for the kind words.  To be honest, I've never even remotely considered doing a texture tutorial.  My methods, while they seem to work fine, are probably very tedious to most because of software limitations.  I'll gladly help you in any way I can, but I doubt a full blown tutorial by me would help that many people in this area!   $%Grinno$%  I checked out that thread... that stuff looks amazing!  I have so much to catch up on now.

Sim Shady:  Thank you!  It's good to be back!

Cammo:  Thanks!  These first couple are definitely on the lower end of the wealth scale, there's no doubt about that.  As for all the other options, I'll probably put a prop pack together with these so people can do whatever extras they might want to do.

More later (when I'm not supposed to be working!)

Firstly, welcome back!  ;D You have been missed, that much we can be sure of, and I am looking forward to what you have in store for us!

Secondly, however, I would like to ask what happened to the Private School / Campus project of a few pages back? :) I remember following that closely only to have it disappear into obscurity...  &mmm

Thirdly, and finally, I do like the Rowhouses!  &apls

M:  Thank you.  It really is good to be back.  More answers in a moment.

Bluebeard:  Thanks!  Nice to see you again as well!

I don't really have anything new to show right now.  I'm fine tuning a couple things, and although they're simple fixes, they're a bit time consuming.  I should wrap these two models up tonight I hope.  In the meantime, since people keep asking what happened to this or that, I figured a quick recap is in order.

Taft Building:  this SHUR project building was basically finished before summer.  I just need to double check if it was CAMified, and it should be released very soon.  -released October 9, 2007!!!

Lockwood Arms:  Essentially the same story with this one.  -released October 19, 2007!!!

The Row House Set:  This originally stalled out because of foundations.  I'm about ready to abandon that idea and just move forward.  Even if I do, it will take a little while to get these ready.  A LOT of organizing and packaging needs to be done and they still need a good thorough testing.  I've not run into any problems with them personally, but a set this size should really have several looks to be sure.  -in testing

Westlake Academy:  I'm waiting for a block of time to render the main school.  Then I have a number of other pieces that I haven't started yet.  So it's still very much a work in progress.

Rau's Furniture:  This is the diagonal corner building.  It's also waiting to be rendered and then the special lotting can begin.  This may be a while too because I don't know how to do it yet!

Chelsea Mill's Grain Elevator  Most major modeling is finished, but there is still a long ways to go on this one.  I'm not even sure what all still needs to be done until I look at it again.  -lotting in progress

I think that covers all the current unfinished projects.

I'm double posting only because I'm going back on topic now.  I wrapped up one of the two building versions.  The windows have been resized and fixed and all the lighting and extra "junk" is on the building.  So here's a peek at all three color variations.

I should be able to wrap up the smaller version tomorrow night when I get home.

The new buildings look great.  As for the recap, all sounds great, except for the row houses.  :'( I will test these for you.  I hope you can finish these.  I was really looking forward to these if you remember all my excitement at the time.
Anyways, your stuff is great and what ever comes next, I'm sure I will DL it also.

Bluebeard:  Thanks!  I can't lie... I cheated on the furniture, but I'm glad to hear it worked!   :satisfied:

Robin:  Thank you.  And now I'm going to do something I've never done since I started BATting.  I'll guarantee the row houses before Christmas (and that's with a lot of padding)

Pat:  Wow!  Thank you!  I'm glad you like it.  Thanks for the welcome as well.  It's nice to see y'all again.

Just a small update for now.  I finished up the smaller version of this one.  The only other significant change are the furnace vents that I will also add to the larger one.  If there are no objections, I'm considering these ready to render at this point.

There are at least four more of these complexes coming... we all know I can never keep things simple anymore!

Ohh, very nice! Those furnace vents are the icing on the cake, along with the obligatory satellite dish. Good thinking. :) I agree with Marc about the electric meter texture, and varying the position of the small vents sounds like a good idea as well (there are a tad too many vents at the center of the roof now). The subtle lighting adds a great atmosphere.

Jon those are looking real superb.... the vents are in the correct spot as well as the meters... So go for it

OMG,
I've lived in those apartments.   LOL      I love um.     Very realistic.     The placement of the electic meters and the vents are dead on acurate.   Perfect.    There are these same buildings not 5 miles from me.

meinhosen

JB,
What ever happened to that grain elevator your were working on?  Seems like the last time you posted pics of it all it looked like it looked like it was ready to be lotted.  Just curious.

Love the new apartments!
You're telling me I get to be home for more than 12 months?

JBSimio

Marc:  Thank you!  Truth be told, I'm using 50's era billboards as floor textures!  :D  I kept meaning to fix the texture on the electric meters and just forgot, so good reminder!  The roof vents I kind of did on purpose because I figured they just use the same set of blueprints every time anyway, but for the sake of visual appeal, I have mixed them up a bit.

Andreas:  Thanks!  I answered everything else already...  ;D

Pat:  Thank-you!

Gaston:  Thanks!  Apparently I chose the right name for this series, because it seems like everyone has seen these buildings somewhere.  Just goes to show how boring suburbia can be... but I won't go into that!   $%Grinno$%

Edge:  Awww... I'm blushing, thanks!

Meinhosen:  Oops!  I forgot to mention the grain elevator didn't I?  I have to go back and check on that one.  I think I was done with the textures, but I'm not positive.  If that's the case, then I need to break it apart and render all the pieces.  Not sure what the time frame on it might be right now.

OK... since the first set of apartments is basically ready to render, I've moved on to round two.  Here's a sneak peak at the next one.  It will have the same brick and siding feel, although not necessarily the same color combinations.  The bulk of the modeling is done on this one and I will should have time to texture it tomorrow.

In other news... the Taft Building is getting a final look to make sure it's ready to go.  The Rowhouses are packaged and testing should start soon.  Have a good night (or morning... afternoon... lunch?  where ever you live!)

Pat:  I had local pizza for dinner too!   :shocked2:  Wait no more, my friend.

Couldn't seem to fall asleep tonight, so I finished off the textures and lighting.  I think this one might be done unless I forgot something.  I'm not sure if there will be another color variation for this or not.  So far I haven't thought of one that really makes sense without repeating the same thing over and over... so we shall see.

The only thing I'm not happy with on this is the trim around the windows and siding.  It's a little darker than I really want, so that will still change.  Other than that, I'm always open to suggestions.

Thats the thing, though. Apartments like this all look the same, regardless of where you are in America. A few color variations are all that's needed, JB.

While I know these are for your camp project, I would like to suggest that you do a giant CAMelotted complex, with ten or more buildings, a pool, and a clubhouse/office.

I once lived in such a place...*shudder*.

I can't wait to see more.

Cheers,
Kevin
