Hi guys (and girls),
I was just DatPacking my plugins for the first time in a while and noticed that the DatPacker crashed/froze when it tried to pack the Wisconsin Gas Building's model file. DO you know of any reason for it to do that? I tried again and the same thing happened, so I think it is probably related.

Do you have the CAM version or a preCAM version? I have the CAM version in my game and I don't have a crash problem. In fact, I use the dat packer a lot and have not experienced any crashing while packing.

May I suggest this may be a good divide and conquer opportunity? Remove everything from your plugins except the BSC folder... pack and see what happens. Than add half of what you took out and pack again.  Then report your finding back here for some future reference.

I, on the other hand, have the pre-CAM version and have never had any troubles with DatPacker.  I realize that probably doesn't help solve your problem at all...  :D  but I'm typing it in the hopes that it may be worth noting for someone in the know.

hmmm Ive gotten the cam and non cam version as well and well anything I have for BSC is not dat packed so I guess I would be of no help there on that one sorry Fred...

I would however agree though if you do dat pack make sure you have if you dont do it already is seperate everything into team wise folder or by product such as water mods or terrain mods...

how I have my folder setup is split into 2 seperate catagories IE projects in progress is where I keep all lots and dependencies I use for lotting or any other lot project I have going on... Then the other folder I got is when I do full game play is where I got the folder broken down to this structer...

then in the folder that is listed new folder for play is all my dat packed folders that I have and those are the only ones I dat pack and here is a look into that one....

of course each dat file represents all accourding files IE airport has nothing but all my airport stuff in there and so on... Foreign bats is just that all foreign batters and misc lotters are well anyone stuff i downloaded where that person is not a team or there wasnt enough releases under a team and that is broken down to where its your basic structer of Health, Civic, and so on....

Hmm... ok just one question... how large is the folder with the Wisconsin Gas Building in it?
You may need to divide up your BSC folder a bit, as datpacker is best used in chunks of 100 to 200MB, depending on your system's resources.

My BSC folder is over 600 Mb and has only props and textures. All lots are in separate folders by type Res/Com/Ind/Trans/Misc. After re-buiding my plugins folder, it has now nearly 3 Gb, contrasting with 4,5 Gb it had before I lost it. About the BSC folder and a few others I have with over 300 Mb, the only difference I notice is that DatPacker takes a couple of minutes to pack them, because during game, it runs very smooth.

As far as I can tell, datPacker crashs are because:
- no more free HD space
- over ~1gb of dat for one file
- the current file is highly corrupted ( can't be read in reader or DatGen or sc4tools )

Ok, that'll be the problem then, my BSC folder is 1.26Gb (!), so that must have been it. It compressed fine without the Wisconsin Gas building in, but maybe it's just one step too far with it in. I'll split it an give that a go.
