*Looks up from his computer in the corner*
No no Pat, I was only here when the trucks came. It was Linda who got it all ordered and taken care of. My compliments to her too. Some good stuff she got. I'll be happy to cook and all though if you're looking for some part-time help... it's a good way to relax.

*Looks back up and over to Robin*
8 ball eh? Must've slipped my mind between platters of paella. Is the table open? I think I can make time for a quick game... though I'm not all that good... which is why it will probably be quick. Great to hear about the cleaning service. I wish you both lots of luck with that. I know people can be picky about stuff like that, but I expect that's true with anything. Keep us posted on it. Now then, shall we play?

rooker1

Sure, Matt.
I just broke and ran table three time.  I am very good, BTW.  ()stsfd() I now have only four balls up and it's your turn with ball in hand as I just sewered.  It's a race to 10.
Good luck my friend.

Robin

All right then... I see how the game is played here. Looks like a decently open table here.

*Takes his shot*

Well, that's a new one. Two of mine and one of yours... Oh well, still my turn.

*Manages to get a few more in*

Your turn. You're a bit boxed in by three of my balls (only four left for me though). Let's see what you can do about that. I think I'm starting to get my game back. I doubt this'll be a 10-0 run.

dioangel

threestooges - your very welcome.. I told Pat I'll take the job restocking up the place.

Okay Matt......I walk around the table thinking of a witty way to kick the only ball possible of hitting.  It looks like a three bank kick.  I lean over the table and take a few strokes and very nicely follow through with a little running right side english.  I hit my ball, but not enough power to hit a rail after contact.   Arrrghhhhh.  You get ball in hand again.
Your turn Matt, you had better make it good, I'm a little dissappionted in myself now and thinking of kicking it up a notch.
I sit down and take a sip of my grand marnia and than one of my cappiccino.

Cappucino? I didn't know this place had that sort of stuff... I'll have to remember that. I can make a pretty mean one. Ah, no matter though. You're giving me ball in hand. I'm not too proud to take charity.

*Places the ball on the table and steadies his aim. Straight shot in just catching the side rail of the pocket. A three rail kick and it's right back where it started (much to my surprise) Three more go down and it's on to the 8.*

Well now... I won't be letting this one get away from me. Right corner pocket.

*Gestures with the cue, lines up the shot and strikes...*

I can't watch...

*Sound of a ball dropping into a pocket*

I sit back and finish my shot of Grand Marnia, while watching come into your own.  The score now is 5 tables for you and only three for me.  I am eagerly waiting to come back to the table.  You are now onto your 6th rack just getting rready to break.............

Disappear for a minute and all these hooligans crash the place and bring a pool table with them  ???  How did you got it thru the door, well, I'd rather not know. ()what() Matt and Robin, great to see you found your way here, I can see a pool comp in the making.

I see you've found the key to the beer fridge, and made yourself at home in the kitchen. No problems there, just make sure you cook enough for everyone,  my mouth is watering just looking at what has been dished up lately.  And feel free to stock the fridge with any beer you wish. And yep, we do coffee as well, although still looking for a full time barista.

Feel free to stock the place with anything you want, but make sure you clear it with Linda first (unofficially, just sneak it in the backdoor, I won't tell  $%#Ninj2)

And Joe,...... I'll leave you alone this time  ;)

I'm sure you were doing something, but I can't pick on you every post (though then again  $%Grinno$%)

threestooges

Dave! Good to see you but, who're you calling a hooligan?

*look over at the pool table and back to Dave*

Well, I didn't bring it in, but you have to admit it looks pretty good where it is. Filasimo called 'winner' but I'd like to see what you've got some time.

*turns to table and quickly breaks*

I figured that, considering the occasion, a little extra food wouldn't hurt, and it seems to have gone down all right. At least no one has attempted to track me down yet... Good shot Robin... I think I'll leave the cooking in Pat's hands though unless you all need some extra help, but that barista job might not be bad at least part time to start. I just picked up a job for the summer so I'll be making sure I devote a fair bit of time to it (first job for the first summer of law school... I want to make a good impression), but there woud certainly be some perks.

*a few games pass during the course of the conversation, the score, trading back and forth, is now 6-5*

I learned the espresso process from a former boss of mine. He owns an Italian restaurant in Santa Barbara, CA. It was neat too... we'd get people in there who lived in Italy and they said it reminded them of home... it was good... if any of you all plan to go there, let me know I'll give you directions on how to get there... anyway, he was very specific as to how it was prepared. It's been a couple of years, but I think I still have it down. Count me in.

Oh, and I wouldn't try to sneak anything in just yet, Linda has eyes like a hawk.

*Turning back to the table I hit a rather wild shot that hits three balls, one of them being the 8, which goes in.*

It would have been nice if all my other balls were in before I did that... The score is now 7-6 in my favor Robin. Your break.

rooker1

As I walk up to the table I notice all the people that are starting to gather around.  I think I see money being passed back and forth as well, I try not to think about it. I walk to the end of the table and have a look at the rack, the ball don't seem to be tight together.  I ask for a rerack,..... afterwards I look again and feel much better about it's setup this time.  I place the ball two inches away from the left side rail.  I stroke and play bottom right english and aim a full hit on the second ball in the rack.  My breathing slows down and with a mighty stroke, I follow straight through.  There a loud bang and some of the people rise from thier seats as they notice the 8 Ball heading straight for the right side, side pocket.  The 8 Ball drops and there is a very loud cheer as I have just won that game off the break.  I look over to you and give you a little smile of satisfaction.
I get ready to break again and nothing drops this time.........it's your turn and the score is now 8-6 in my favour.
We have now been playing for hours and I ask the very pretty server to get me a beer and a BLT sandwich.

Nice work there. *similing back in a good natured, irritated way* That's twice in two shots the 8 ball has dropped... I only wish mine was the same type as yours. But I think your scoring is a bit off, for those of you out there exchanging currency as we exchange shots. I believe the score is tied 7-each.

*Grabs a glass of water takes a quick drink and tries to figure out how that last break worked*

Oh well, I wanted a challenge...

*The break opens up the table, though nothing drops. Robin takes advantage of this and quickly drops six balls, the seventh being uncomfortably close to the 8 and the pocket. Playing it as safely as I can, I somehow manage to avoid giving him a decent shot and close the gap with a shot that pockets a ball and goes four rails to drop another (luck?)*

This game starts to take its toll on you after a while. I'll like a club sandwich please, when you have a moment. *said to the server who has just returned with Robin's order and gives him a bit of a smile as well*

Does she have money on the game? Oh well, no matter... let's see what I can do with this...

*The games trade back and forth. Periodic cheers are heard from various parts of the room as shots drop ball after ball. Whether it's endurance or both players are just warmed up now, the games stay fairly even, perhaps with Robin having a bit of an edge. The score is now 9-9 and the table is racked and ready.*

Are we playing win by 2 or just first to 10? Either way, I think it's your break now. Just don't go doing that 8-ball trick again... either way, this has been fun, but I'd like to have some sort of chance.

*periodic murmurs and money are traded among the crowd as the game gets set to begin.*

rooker1

Sorry Matt about the mistake in the score.

Everyone is now very tense, including myself and I can see a bead of sweat run down your brow.  The room seems to become stuffy, I can really feel the pressure now.
We are both doing very well.
On your last shot, you leave your last stripe ball over the corner pocket.  Now it's my turn.  I take a carefull look around the table and start pocketing my balls.  I get to a point where your ball is blocking two of mine from the corner pocket.  I can't think of any way out of this situation, so I decide to play a safety and it works aces.

This is the position I have left you in.

I return to my seat very happy with myself and take a bite of my sandwich.

Robin

PS.  The 8 Ball Break really works, exactly as I described it.  If anyone else plays alot of 8 Ball they confirm it also.  I have won mnay league games this way.

Oh, I know it works, I just can't do it... and don't worry about the score... I'm amazed I'm still in this thing.

*looks at the table*

Then again... I'm glad someone snapped this photo, a nice little historic document now. Where I usually play, jumping is permitted, though I'm hesitant to use it here on the new table... If I could still do a decent masse shot, I might be able to... *let's out an exasperated sigh as variations of shots run through his head* I know I shouldn't do this, but I'm going to defer to you. Is jumping allowed? If so, I'll just pop it up over yours, try to catch the edge of the rail to get the 11 in and hopefully open a path to the 8 (I do actually have decent control of my jump shot... it comes from watching too many of those trick pool competitions). Otherwise, I'll try curving it around the 8, try to pull off a 3 rail bank to at least catch the 11 and, if nothing else, mess with your next shot.

*As he explains he traces the proposed path with his cue*

rooker1

In my opinion the masse shot would be easier than trying the jump.  Most jump shots travel at least 12" or more, because of the height of the balls.  Unless youare going to just scope the ball using bottoms which will surely ruin the table.

I think I would do your two rail shot or even the masse.
Good luck.
